I honestly do not get the complaint about "disconnection". Yes Scientology might practice an organized and radical version of the practice for a so called Religion but so fucking what. In many serious endeavours, many people practice a form of disconnection when one person leaves the path and there are people still on the path. When a couple breaks up, even if the spouse was close friends with the parent in laws and friends, there is usually some form of disconnection that occurs. if you are fired from a large company, you are often escorted to the door by security guards as you are no longer considered on the team and a risk to the goings on in the company. Many if not most of the families I know practice some form of casual natural human disconnection when it suits them without any outside intervention, with each family member not talking to another member or living on opposite ends of the globe so they never have to see each other. This pretending that it is the end of the world that someone chose something else over you is so much disgusting drama. Ok, so your parent of child is choosing their friends or group over you…so what!!! Get a life. If you were more important to them then whatever they were involved in they would choose you. And if those same people later regret the disconnection practice they embraced in the moment of being passionate about their church group or just reject it and leave the church, that is called MAKING A CHOICE and not choosing the practice of the church does not make the practice evil it just means whatever that church is doing is no longer a fit for you. if I was going to join the church of scientology I would do so keeping in mind that hey take this disconnection thing seriously and that one point alone would have me not choose to be involved with them. Easy peazy. People CHOOSE to embrace the radical practices of a certain setting or job or religion and the people who are on the outside are just going to have to get over it. Or not. Monks or many different orders retreat to mountains or ashrams and renunciate everything for a time….whoopdidoo. My 2 cents anyway.
Two corrections: "Ok, so your parent OR child is choosing…." "Monks OF many different orders….." <end of moth's comment> The following materials are some of the evidences regarding disconnection that have been posted ITT. They are posted here to give the thread at least some redeeming value. I always swore to myself that if I was ever told to disconnect from my family, I would refuse. Ironically, it ended up the other way around – my family were all ordered to disconnect from me the day after I escaped in January 2005."
So you are favorably comparing group shunning and the practice of fair game to ascetic renunciation? Really?
The labels might be different, but the end results are exactly the same, but exactly. I am not "favourably" comparing them, I am just comparing them. I also, did not mention "fair gaming". You are entering that into the mix here for some reason. I see group shunning in many places where humans are involved.
I can't decide if you're playing devil's advocate in an effort to "create the effect" of a plethora of posts proving how fucked up disconnection is, or whether you know exactly nothing about that which you speak. Disconnection in Scientology is about control and punishment. It has nothing to do with an individual making a free choice based on all the information available. Your argument is complete FLUNK of the False Analogy variety. Lurk moar.
What kind of people put their family members on the internet because said family member has stopped communicating with them for whatever reason and calls them "brainwashed"? It would be a cold day in hell that I would put a family members name and picture on the web as a way of venting or working through some upset I had with them not talking to me or separating themselves from me. If I am saying I genuinely care about THEM and miss them, I am not going to show it by posting their lives on the web without their consent just because I am frustrated and do not agree with something they are doing and I feel desperate. That is selfish and all about the person feeling left out. I would not do it and would not want it done to me. Yes they may be upset and confused, and so what. GET A LIFE.
Meshell is assisting in the education of the public about the evil of Scientology. Disconnection is one of the most overt aspects of the rotten inner-core of the fraud which attempts to present to the world as a "religion". As she says, if disconnection is what the public gets to see, what does that indicate about what Scientology is trying to hide. Rather than an act of selfishness, Meshell's participation in the video is a gift to all who might otherwise be attracted to the L Ron Hubbard Bridge to Xenu.
I suffer from know-it-allism as much as the next person and might not know everything about it but my understanding is that people cut each other off, no more communication, and people withhold the contents of their lives from one another, is that basicvally it? is there more to "disconnection" that I am missing? So what? You don't love "control"? Only a person who loves "control" would take issue with another person exercising "control'. Again, so what. Punishment is part of human life on earth. You have never acted in a way to punish or get revenge on a person who did something you did not like or disagreed with? I see all people as having free will. You might take the case that you in your largess are savvy and have free will but that little person over there does not but I do not buy into that. Says you Anonymous.
This woman, who I don't know from adam, seems to be using her family member as a thing, as a piece, for her own personal agenda. I find that a poor route to go. She could speak out and leave her family names and pictures out of it. What she is doing seems disrespectful to her family member in my opinion.
No, not me. Everyone who has been subject to L Ron Hubbard's Bridge to Xenu version of disconnection. You've heard Meshell, here's a few more . . .
While you might ad great important significance to these crybabies, I do not. It is rough when people are separated and do not wish to be separated. I have compassion for that. But if a person gives you the cold shoulder, suck it up and deal with it, you got a life? well live it. If that person was your life? You never had a life to begin with.
No. Unable to deal with the reality of Scientology disconnection, you are applying the L Ron Hubbard dictate to "always attack, never defend". That's why you are striking out at the people who have been hurt by Scientology's disconnection and have demonstrated the bravery of speaking out publicly about it. In your hypnotised mind, there must be something wrong with them. That attitude is foisted upon your consciousness via the hypnotic-like Auditing and the heavy-handed mileu control mechanisms imposed within the cult. Believing that there is something wrong with those who speak out about the pain Scientology causes helps ease your cognitive dissonance.
I have compassion for people who deal publicly with it, showing the diminishing remainder how it can be.

I would not do it and suggest these people get a life!!! But I see nothing wrong with people who have been hurt by a disconnection related to Scientology speaking out and expressing themselves in a public forum if that is what they feel they must do. I do not believe, as you are saying that that there is something wrong with those who speak out about any pain they are experiencing and if they blame Scientology for that. I was and am saying that naming their family members and showing their pictures is disrespectful and not a good road to go down if they really value those people. it is selfish and inconsiderate and all about them and not about the family member they are using to put their compelling victim story together.
Not only are you completely ignorant, you are deliberately so. These people have a life. They are not crippled by Scientology disconnection. They are in pain, sure, but they are getting on with things and taking real steps to ensure that what happened to them doesn't happen to others. In the educating of the public about Scientology it helps to make the stories "real". This involves real people taking about real pain. Showing pictures of loved ones who have committed grevous acts of cruelty based solely on their conditioning at the hands of Scientology drives home the message: these are real people, this could happen to you if you get involved Scientology. There will, however, always be those members of the public who's cognitive and emotional abilities are insufficient to understand and who will, instead, heap scorn and callous fault finding.
Dear Moth, When and where did the Office of Special Affairs recruit you? Tell us about the Hatting you received. Tell us about the security clearance you got to post here. Who has read your Security Check in your case file? Whose program are you running?
Never mind disconnection . . . L Ron Hubbard says shoot them instead, or frame them for a crime. Wattaguy.
So, Moth. Your proposition is that disconnection (in or outside of scientology) is not a good thing, but that naming the disconnector is bad? Do I have that right?
here are another 2134 people (ex members) who disagree with you http://whyweprotest.wikia.com/wiki/Former_Church_of_Scientology_members_who_have_spoken_out just remember when the cult finally dries up and blows away like a tumbleweed in the wind, that people tried to tell you so Remember that
If agreement and disagreement had any inherent defining value, then you would also have to consider all the people who disagree with you, like card carrying Scientologists, and YOU DO NOT As if I care about a bunch of crybabies bellyaching about how the church is to blame for their family member and friends life choices. I DO NOT I could care less if the Church of Scientology disappears today or tomorrow, it is not a personal source of anything for me, never has been , never will be. I view it as some extreme group i have and want nothing to do with.
As if this WWP group does not practice it's own kind of shunning and labelling people outsiders and unwanted and disconnection with people who do not agree with your path: "OSA troll (or idiot) tries (and fails) to defend disconnection" Get real.
If you went to the "We Want Chocolate" website and talked about how you you didn't want chocolate would you expect to be met with some derision?
