Amazon removing "adult" (read gay) books from searches

They're doing it with a particular focus on any books with gay or lesbian characters, though some of the selections are downright bizarre. For instance, the first of Michel Foucault's books on the history of sexuality:

[ame=http://www.amazon.com/History-Sexuality-Vol-Introduction/dp/0679724699/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_1]Amazon.com: The History of Sexuality, Vol. 1: An Introduction: Michel Foucault: Books[/ame]

Effectively, they're stripping off the sales figures and rankings, the result being that books on their blacklist don't show up on searches. The fact that it's a blacklist and not any kind of algorithm is pretty obvious if you notice the completely arbitrary nature of the selections.

But not the other two volumes. It's sort of like a bookstore setting up a "Nigger Books" section in a dank basement, except in this case, it's "Faggot Books."

They appear to be insanely stupid. I think a lot of people are going to have fun with this one. There are a lot of other reasons already to boycott Amazon, but some people are having fun with it. For instance, this Googlebomb: Amazon Rank

Some other urls on this fiasco:

Amazon rank = #amazonfail Birdbrain(ed) Book Blog [Background]
    #hashtags - amazonfail [Twitter Feed]
Jezebel - Why Is Amazon Removing The Sales Rankings From Gay, Lesbian Books? - Amazon rank

It's not just gay and lesbian books. For instance, Lady Chatterley's Lover is also in there, but not Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer. Makes very little sense.

The list of books is like something given to them by James Dobson. It's also notable they chose to do this on Easter, perhaps in the name of Jebus.

Okay lets play 6 degrees of scientology:

    1) Tom Cruise is a scientologist
    2) Tom Cruise talked to Amazon last December (maybe about the complex)
    3) Amazon is pulling "gay" themed books
    4) Its been reported that a gay guy who wrote a tell-all book about TC is gona say he's gay
    5)???
    6) Profit

There I did it in 4 your turn.

People who care about human rights, perhaps?

The set of which happens to intersect those who protest scientology abuses.

Taking down Co$, cool. I am also here for that. I also care about other human rights abuses. Do you care about human rights, or just about protesting scientology, as some sort of fad/fun exercise?

ProTip for interpreting my above post: "I don't care about some other human rights abuse" != "This is the wrong forum". If you meant the latter, perhaps you should say the latter.

ITT: Newfags trolling trolls trolling newfags.

Anyway, this really isn't news. Amazon has ALWAYS been biased, and has a long, well-documented record of censoring whatever it is they don't like. They delete virtually any negative reviews of Dianetics, and they refused to ship out the Complex.

Though this might have been crossing the line. In b4 GLBT-advocate groups start calling Amazon "homophobic", and start a boycott... whatever good that will do them.

Most people from a victorian camera collecting club would say "what do you means?"

See what I did there? My example was just as relevant as yours. ProTip: this isn't 4chan. Or a camera club. So take your homophobia (somewhat ironic but I think that passed you by, right?) and GTFO back to your /chan/cer hole.

Yeah, that's just the way it is, right? Pointless trying to raise awareness of stuff or spread the word about human rights abuses.

A possible troll on LJ claiming that this is an epic troll: tehdely: On Amazon Failure, Meta-Trolls, and Bantown

I don't think it is, but if it is, it's a pretty good one.

Also, if you're too stupid to read the name of the forum you're posting to, which is called "Freedom of Expression," try shutting tf up, because you're also too stupid to have any relevant comment. This forum was created for threads like this.

Further, if you're also too stupid to understand why Amazon policies are relevant to Scientology, try this link: Let me google that for you

Thanks in advance for your non-stupidity.

I think it is a troll and a good one at that. Amazons faggotry regarding John Dougans The Complex hasn't been forgotten. Amazonfail deserves the fallout from this regardless of why, I only wish something like this would happen to youtube and give them a slap upside their jowls for their censorship faggotry.

In other news, sales of Birkenstocks on Amazon.com fell by 98%.

It was not only a stupid move from an equal-treatment POV, it was a stupid economic decision. Resbians buy more books, movies and CD's than most geeks, and since local stores in most places aren't going to stock Better Than Chocolate..well, you gotta order them online.

Obv. Amazon has too much money, and does not want anymore. Out of respect for their decision, I won't give 'em any of mine.
