Very creative work.
From Amnesty International:
Talking point: is there action which Anonymous could take to increase the pressure on Brazil, India and South Africa to allow the UN Security Council to take a tougher line with Syria?
Anons can write letters as suggested just like anyone else, but that does not require anonymity.
Indeed. Amnesty International suggests emailing the foreign ministers of Brazil, South Africa and India
and their website makes it easy to do so.
But I can't honestly see it having any effect.
I don't know what it's going to take to tip the balance to the point where Western powers will see more benefit in intervening in Syria than they currently see in staying away, but whatever it is I don't think it's down to Anonymous. The hacks described in this thread do show internet users over there a tiny sliver of symbolic light, but you cannot eat it or shelter beneath it.
At least a sliver of light is better than nothing. But would like to do more.
I've written to the foreign ministers concerned (for all the good that's likely to do).
What else can I do? Ideas?
I've pretty much all run out of ideas by this point.
Russia and Iran, unfortunately, are the primary keys in this whole thing. Each one has their own vested interest in Assad staying in power. The U.S. to a point, but they can always send their rendition flights to the Saudis if Assad's no longer around to do their torturing for them.
And yeah, I'm fully aware at just how grim I sounded. :/
Not much anyone can do but provide moral support, the situation could spark a war if state actors aren't careful.
And I bet certain special interests (*cough*Halliburton! Blackwater!*cough*) would love for that to happen.
Ideas on how?
Is there anything we can do online to help? Provide privacy / anonymity / whatnot?
Whats the IRC room? I stumbled around the internet last night, tripping over virus ridden links, and watching kiddies talk about pussy. Never found it.
It's possible that telecomix has some connections within Syria, or at least some current info.
*bump* for interest
pix of defaced websites?
Look 4 posts above you.
Would like to know more about:
(from one of the defacements)
esp the information on avoiding government spying on line. Excellent clear advice we can all use. Thanks, those of you that did this.
