Two young girls have been raped in the town of Maryville, Missouri. Another high school football star, the grandson of a Missouri state official, has walked free. The people of Maryville turned their backs on these victims and one family has been forced to flee the town. Their house was later burned to the ground.

On January 8th, a 14-year-old girl named Daisy Coleman and her 13-year-old friend were both raped in Maryville. Evidence of this assault was captured on film. Daisy's unconscious body was later dumped into her family's yard, left alone for hours in freezing weather. One of Daisy's attackers was initially in police custody, where he admitted to having sex with her while she was under the influence. He claimed it was consensual. The hospital states the young girl's blood alcohol level was almost twice the legal limit and they discovered three tears inside of her body, 2-4 inches in length. When asked if a crime occurred, the Sheriff told the press, "Hell yes, it occurred... And did these boys need to be punished for it? Absolutely.”

One suspected rapist is Matthew Barnett, a student at the University of Central Missouri. He's the grandson of Missouri state Representative, Rex Barnett. At 17, Barnett was legally considered to be an adult. All charges against him have been dropped.

We demand an immediate investigation into the handling by local authorities of Daisy's case. Why was a suspect, who confessed to a crime, released with no charges? How was video and medical evidence not enough to put one of these football players inside a court room? What is the connection of these prosecutors, if any, to Rep. Rex Barnett? Most of all, We are wondering, how do the residents of Maryville sleep at night?

We have heard Daisy's story far too often. We heard it from Steubenville, Halifax and Uttar Pradesh. In some cases, it was too late. Both Amanda Todd and Rehtaeh Parsons, girls not much older than Daisy, took their own lives after the adults, the police and the school system, failed to protect them. If Maryville won't defend these young girls, if the police are too cowardly or corrupt to do their jobs, if justice system has abandoned them, then we will have to stand for them. Mayor Jim Fall, your hands are dirty. Maryville, expect us.

I'm a local and have been following the case for quite some time, if you need local feet on the ground then i'm your man!

That's a kind offer.
What's the local feeling for what happened?

Some of the locals don't seem to believe it, due to the man accused of doing it having the last name Barnett, which seems to have a big impact on the deciding factor of people's opinion. Myself on the other hand is on the Coleman's side and I believe something should be done.

Ya, once the rest of the world gets involved they won't be so big. I don't know exactly what measures should be taken to help further this investigation and bring the people at fault to justice, but I believe something should be done and if there is anything I can do to help then just let me know.

FYI, the rape occurred in January of 2012....almost two years ago.

First thing is to do register as a member.
You can have private chats with other members.
They can help you organise and give advise
As to measures it's all ready happening.
This story has been picked up by time, soon they will be reading about it globally.
This will hopefully force outside agency's to intervene in the case.

I have begun informing friends of the event in hopes of recruiting some people to attend. Unfortunately I will be in class during the time of the event so I will not be able to go, unless I can find an excuse to get out of it. If there is anything else I can help with just let me know!

They wear the scarlet letters of our time.

Coleman took her family out of Maryville in August 2012, after the charges were dismissed. Her house burned down six months ago. The cause is undetermined. Daisy has been in therapy but has made two suicide attempts. Barnett is going to the University of Central Missouri, the school his grandfather went to. Update, October 14: Anonymous is on the scene. As members of the loose hacker collective did in Steubenville and in the Rehtaeh Parsons case, they're demanding an "immediate investigation into the handling by local authorities" of Daisy's case. This kind of vigilante justice can be for good or for ill. It depends how responsible the vigilantes are. One thing is sure: This will get interesting.

The siding and gutters had melted. The roof was gone. Inside, piles of ash filled the rooms that had once bustled with the pleasant sounds of a family.

That morning last April when Melinda Coleman received word that emergency vehicles were gathering around her Maryville house, she had hoped for the best.
But if the events of the past year and a half had taught her anything, it was that when the town of Maryville was involved, that seemed unlikely.
Since the morning her daughter had been left nearly unconscious in the frost of the home’s front lawn, this northwest Missouri community had come to mean little besides heartache.

Few dispute the basic facts of what happened in the early morning hours of Jan. 8, 2012: A high school senior had sex with Coleman’s 14-year-old daughter, another boy did the same with her daughter’s 13-year-old friend, and a third student video-recorded one of the bedding scenes. Interviews and evidence initially supported the felony and misdemeanor charges that followed.
Yet, two months later, the Nodaway County prosecutor dropped the felony cases against the youths, one the grandson of a longtime area political figure.

The mom and daughter were just on the local Kansas City news cast. It was an odd interview, especially since the girl is a minor (and no longer blonde). They talked about the incident so matter-of-factly, one would never guess the girl is a victim of rape. It was weird.

It's been nearly two years. Perhaps she's become used to talking about it. Amazingly, in this case, the cops actually did do what they were supposed to do and it got shut down by the prosecutor. What a sleazebag. His site is offline now but his contact info can easily be googled.

I'm not anywhere near local but I would love to help in any way I can remotely. Let's get 'em!
