Here is an October 22, 2009 television news report on this subject: Modified French law saved Scientology from dissolution in 2009
Honestly, I wouldn't want them banned. Not in France, Belgium nor here. A ban can be presented as religious prosecution or tyranny way to easily. It's also a bit whack-a-mole-ish. Just send people to jail for breaking the law and demand payment (like retroactive minimum wage). Give existing laws more teeth if needed (selling psychotherapy for a fortune = racketeering, vitamin overdose = poison) to prevent abuse in the future.
Banning the corporation for being a racket is not censorship. People are free to read the books and play psychological games to their heart's content, but the company cannot charge them money for it.
Not disagreeing, just afraid a ban could HELP their PR campaign. It gives them an excuse to drag out the Hitler vs Jews or Roman Empire vs Christians narrative. If they are simply handled as common crooks on the other hand, then not so much.
rumour was that the first thing they did after the raid was to make copies of everything . One can never be too careful, what with three and a half binders going missing in France.
