I almost feel like I need more information on this. It certainly does seem upsetting, and I certainly don't trust the explanations of these bill writers behind many bills that I see passed or waiting to be passed.

Just remember though, that the two party system is corrupt on both sides, and "one against the other" may more likely be "both working together to ensure a separated nation".

Well if you are using proxies you should understand that what you can view on the interwebz is controlled by the laws of the country who's proxy you use.

For instance say you want to watch a movie online for free, but your ISP or your country has that website blocked. Well that is not a problem there are many ways to bypass these locked out websites.

America is still based on Capitalism therefore you could at the very least always buy your way back onto the playground.

I did read it. It makes perfect sense. However, I'm just wondering if there's more to it than just what the article reads.

    It's a crock.

The idea that any one person or administration is King Of The Internet is simply an act of FUD.

    • Nothing is bullet proof, take over central command Fuck everything up.

    • Do as we say or we cut you off

Bad idea is bad, or good for those that want to turn the internet into cabletv 2.0 and limit the impact of social media on politics. Go back to sleep everything is fine.

    wait...

if by some chance, hacker terrorists managed to access the governmental controls of the internet... they could effectively shut down the ENTIRE INTERNET

imo, there should be NO keys (let alone a door) to the internet's engine room / command base

So, how do we know that this bill isn't simply something to make it easier for emergency services to broadcast a message in case of a national or state emergency, over the internet? How do we know this is some big brother shit? That's what I want to know.
  12. Re: Bill would give president emergency control of Internet

SRSLY The logic doesn't get any more simple or effective.

Big Brother is out there, and he is watching, but he isn't capable of watching everyone all of the time. Also Big Brother is not certain of who exactly they should be spending their time watching.

Bottom line is if free people use their freedoms, and do not take them for granted then we will nevar let BB win.

Seriously, I think everyone is taking this bill for something it's not. The brief description of "President can take emergency control of the internet" sounds like a scary censoring of free speech, but really all it is is the internets version of "This is an emergency broadcast".

Lol you people. You really think that a single government is the only or largest threat to the internet as a decentralized, open medium? Just remember, the internet has a very physical aspect to it...

For some reason this doesn't bother me. If you're going to write anything on a public webiste directed at our government you should expect that they will save it.

No I won't feel comfortable until my government is so incompetent as to lose all correspondence I choose initiate with it. I will henceforth be electing politicians who think the same as I.
