I talked to an explosives expert I know... His analysis goes something like this. This was NOT high explosives, you can tell that from all the smoke and fire. This was most likely a zinc powder with other stuff bomb or another low end chemical explosive. Bomb squads on the site already know what kind of bomb they are looking at as they have test strips that will tell them in less than 5 mins. They will find the ignition source, (Likely a cell) because it was not high explosives, and most of the info about who and why will come from that. He also said that it was unlikely to have been larger than a backpack. He further states that Boston's cells service will be out for likely the next 12-14 hours while they sweep for any remaining bombs. The system is not down due to "overload" as has been reported by media, but was cut specifically to stop any more detonations. He is writing up a summery for his message board, and when I see that I'll likely cross post it here.

The difference being, High Explosive Materials Decompose (Detonate) with little SMOKE, other than the dust kicked up from the Pressure Wave. Low Explosive Materials, Oxidize (Burn - Deflagrate) and those Oxidized Compounds, typically generate lots of SMOKE, that gets scattered by a much Smaller Pressure Wave., along with the dust near the site. My conclusion is, that these were Low Explosive materials, which is the reason that there is so little Damage, compared to what an HE Device would have caused, being of similar size. If I could have smelled the Smoke, I could have told you the exact composition of the Energetic Materials used, by the oder. Local ATF will have the Energetics, defined, and known, here in about two hours, if they were commonly available compounds used. They have Test Strips that used to determine these things, in their "Go Bags". Cellular Services were SHUT DOWN in the area, as a precaution, as they COULD have been used as the Trigger. I suspect we will hear one way or the other, what the Trigger Device was, as there will be MANY parts, available for recovery, around each of the sites, due to the SLOW nature of the Explosion, that was shown.

April 15th, could be the baggers. We've always said that the antidote to bad speech is more speech. But post-Internet I'm not so sure. There's just so damn much mis-information out there clothed in traditional signifiers of legitimacy. Bad guys be spamming us into submission, basically. The solution must be some sort of two-tiered media system. We come up with explicit evidential standards and license people to report information that meets those standards. We impose terrible penalties upon anyone who gets caught cheating those evidential rules. At the same time everyone who thinks our government is run by lizard people can carry on with their comic book level of political analysis and reporting. We will go to the licensed people for real news and political commentary. We'll tune into the loudmouths for the lulz. The schizophrenics and stupid people will hopefully recognize that the lulz channel is no justification for bombs.
Shoot this down - it might just be a crazy idea. But is it possible that Muslims might be behind this? I know it sounds crazy, but one or two incidents of terror attacks on civilians of Western nations in the past decade have been carried out by Muslims. I can't think of any offhand, because most terror attacks were carried out by Anders Breivik or Timothy McVeight or that other guy.
