I think the "why is this man lying?" signs are a good move but remember their goal is to get you defending anonymous instead of protesting them. It is a distraction.

The best thing to do would be to dispense with the anonymous mask TBH, however I can understand why you might not wish to; fairgame in the UK is more subtle, like Stu Wyatt, so it is perhaps easier for us to go unmasked and deal with it. Also the V masks are symbolic.

Don't try to justify anonymous, concentrate on the cause and why you're protesting against scientology. If you're asked go with the line that you are not in anonymous, but you support the protests against the cult of scientology that were started by anonymous because..... bringing it back to the cause.

If asked about their leaflet play it down, just say it's a mixture of random quotes off the Internet by random people saying they are anonymous, you see the cult can't legitimately counter the reasons why we protest so instead they try to smear us by associating us with whack jobs, it's all part of their fair game policy.... bringing it back to the cause.

Frankly, I do not care about the reputation of Anonymous. They can call the group anything they wish as long as people also get to see the bad side of CoS. When people Google or Wiki Anonymous they will also run to things about CoS that is bad. I can not be held accountable for some unnamed hacker, because I have never hacked anything in my life. I say let them pass out fliers every day of the week. If someone asks me about their flier I will tell them I do not know who did those things and do not approve of those actions. Then I ask them to confront that person about people CoS has killed.

What they are doing is an arrestable offense because they are infiltrating a group to start chaos and confusion to a point where this group can fight them. I think I have to agree with Ignoring the scilons for now. I mean- all their links are from Youtube and Wikipedia. As soon as people go on youtube to look at chanology videos they see all the critics and former scientologist who support us. The people get a little more curious and dig a little deeper. They learn about Wise Beard Man, Paulette Cooper, Ex-ScientologyKids, Freezoners, and all the other people who can testify that everything we say about the CO$ is true.

We've been dealing with this in Los Angeles for a few weeks now (months?!?). At our last flashraid, the $cilons stood up the sidewalk from us on either side handing out their black PR. Their "line" seemed to be "find out what these guys in masks are REALLY about!". They were very aggressive in their handing out technique.

I found the following to work really well:

"Find out why that $cientologist just gave you a flyer!"

Most people would look at me, hand the black PR flyer back to me and take one of mine. I find that positioning is important. You want to get to the people walking down the street AFTER a $cilon has handed them a flyer.

Whatever you guys do, don't make it clear as to what your doing on the forums - no doubt that thecilon's are keeping an eye out to possible counters. True, they might not have a solution to whats been recommended, but just keep that in mind.

Btw, I'm not sure if other cities have attempted this, but what if we had two anons, one on either side of the Scilons (no signs pointing them out or anything), who were handing out flyers in the same format as their "Anonymous FAQ"? Not about Anonymous, still staying on topic, but looking very similar. At first glance, the public won't notice the difference, and with an anon on either side of each Scilon, people will take the first one that's handed to them, and won't take the "Anonymous FAQ", thinking that it's the same thing. If they do manage to hand one out, we could have Anons intercept them and explain that it's a fake flyer and how they "even copied our formatting".

I don't know if it would work or even if it's practical, but since people are so critical of the current approach, I thought I'd at least suggest something new.

First things first, attacking anonymous in this way does not make them look any better. Anonymous by its very nature is beyond criticism. Getting all defensive and trying to refute their leaflets or undermine the information contained on them will get us nowhere.

All they are doing by handing out these flyers is raising public awareness of the protests and making people more suspicious about Scientology. We don't need to worry about the credibility of Anonymous as a protest group, sure our members aren't exactly law abiding citizens, however: Your own crimes are completely irrelevant when highlighting the crimes of others. Remember also, all publicity is good publicity.

That said, this opportunity to expose fair game and capture some epic video of real scilons in action should NOT be wasted. The tactics discussed in this thread are spot on. I think they can be summarised here:

1: Hold up signs next to the scilons saying "This is a scientologist" etc. Record video of this and place on youtube

2: Posing as a member of the public, take a flyer and engage the Scilon in coversation about why they are doing this. Record this including audio and post to youtube. Take scans of the flyer and make them available alongside your videos.

3: Psyops: Remind them their parents and family miss them, ask them if this is why they got into Scientology in the first place, ask them how much they are getting paid for doing this, ask them about the people leaving the orgs, ask them how their org is doing stats wise as we have heard that all orgs are downstat recently, ask them if they live at the org, and is it a nice place, do they have a large room, are they allowed to watch TV and go on the internet, etc etc etc.

These are young scilons and probably naive enough to respond and produce some epic win. Important that only 1 or 2 fearless unmasked anons max attempt this action. A masked group will certainly be ignored. ALWAYS, ALWAYS record. Try to get good audio as their responses might be pure win and gold for youtube.

4: Play the OT3 tapes, play the Xenu tapes, explain what you are playing to them, pause the tapes to summarise the key points, ask them if they recognise Hubbard's voice. Again always record.

Safety tip:
These are vulnerable, young scientologists out on their own without the safety and comfort of their orgs. Remember they are probably scared out of their minds when you guys show up. They may provide epic luls or then again they may respond in a violent or threatening manner toward you. I can't repeat this enough, always record. If things do get nasty simply walk away, no matter how angry you are. Go home and upload the video to youtube, it will do more damage than hitting back at them ever could.

About the flyers...our way of handling that(which proofs fairly successful):

a) take care of the people who got their flyer... walk towards them and offer them a flyer on your own. advertise it like "The flyer in your hands is what scientology writes about ME. May I offer the other side of the story?"

b) endure it. They need to produce and they cannot do that if they walk around messing with anons.

c) Don't take that flyer too seriously. At least the germans are simply not dumb enough to believe that the obviously peaceful protesters are the monsters described on scientologys flyers. You know... the epilepsy-story.

d) Attack the morale of the scilons themselfs by telling people(not everbody, only the ones who clearly are on your/our side) to take the scifag-flyer if they wanna read a funny story the cult telling about you.

Of course that only works if scientology has a bad standing in general. But even the people who are uncertain about our actions come and confront us. And thats the moment where you need to come up with what we know about the cult.

The clams would definitely be trying to confuse the public. They think that everyone is as easily misled as they are ;-)

I think the softest of approaches will work best. Trying to gang up on them will just create an atmosphere of escalation.

If you can engage them in conversation (again, without badgering them - they get that from the registrar already) the "is this why you joined the church?" is one good topic.

Another one, if you do get them to actually engage, is to agree that some people have done things that you don't like while claiming to be Anon's. (Assuming that this is true.) If you disagree with the epilepsy raid, tell the clam that. Then remind them that you don't believe that they are breaking the law just because Sue Hubbard did. They will readily agree that guilt of all clams by association with the "operation snow white" crew is totally wrong - this is the sort of basic tactic to brush off criticism of past activities which is drilled into them. Then ask them why all Anons should be considered criminals because some other Anon (or someone pretending to be an Anon) is?

Whatever you do, I suggest being nice not nasty. If for no other reason than you should always be thinking twice before opening yourself up to accusations of threatening behaviour (particularly as the clams they send out appear junior). Watch out for OSA videotaping all of this very carefully while being very careful not to be spotted. First sign of trouble, the clams are gong to be all over you and the police is going to get called with video to prove how you're being mean to minors. If you're down to the police having to trust you, you're already half way to a total ban on protesting...

All of this IMHO, of course, except the bit where I really think you should be nice, not nasty, to individual clams. Groups of clams is one thing, but I think that by treating individuals nicely we can show how we're different from a cult and we can stay safe.

tl;dr Some of the public is going to be confused - I don't think you're going to to overcome this (but then again, you don't need to). Try to use their gradient approach on them to highlight the contradiction between them claiming that no clam is guilty by association and that all Anon are guilty by association. Be nice, not nasty, to individual clams. Stay safe

One plan of action is to ignore them. If both our anti COS fliers get out, and their anti anon filers get out, we win-- Anonymous sells nothing, only the COS must sell its snake oil to survive.

If anonymous starts giving away pro anon fliers, the scilons new strat has worked, because we are giving out less fliers that expose the COS.

All we need to do is expose the COS, expose the stress tests as COS, and we win, no matter now many anti anon fliers they hand out. Stay on target.

Haha, this is Pride Week in Toronto, with the biggest parade outside San Francisco today, it heads down Yonge Street right in front of the org. Scientology was shut up tight, street level blinds pulled down, all blinds in the other floors (the ones that work, anyway), pulled down. Afraid of catching something, I guess. :roll:

Play up the 'good citizen' angle, accentuate the positive, whenever possible. Have a single person (depending on raid size, of course) follow the black PR pamphleteer with a small wastebasket. Attach a sign to it, make it look like a real anti-littering sign: "Please keep our city clean - recycle Scientology black PR here".

Don't confront the Scilon, just follow quietly. Politely ask any flier takers if they'd like to hear the truth. Most people want to keep their distance from a ranting lunatic, so mudslinging against your Scilon flier-monkey is not optimal.

Be the upstanding citizen. Remain cheerful and good-humored when answering their questions. Perfect is if the Anon shadowing them is in suit and tie, and addressing everyone as 'sir/ma'am'. Make the Scifag look like the ranting looney.
