Re: Colorado State Board of Education- Applied Scholastics!

Darn. Where did my post go?

    OP,

The Board of Education does not want to have to think about whether Scientology is a cult. They will want to concentrate on:

    a) Does it Work?; and
    b) Is it based in sound methodology.

Both these questions are best answered by Dr Dave Touretsky. He even has a section "Does Study Tech Work?"

I think you should adopt what HellRazor provided above and add in the correct link to the paper by Dr Dave - http://www.studytech.org/study_tech.php .

Most of the other quotations just muddy the waters.

Also, you may be able to whittle down the list of recipients significantly and still make a huge splash...

    Also, you're great! Thanks.

Ah, interesting topic, as the very obvious solution to this has an added side effect of applying Massive amounts of footbullets to Anon's feet.

If you haven't sent that letter yet, make perfectly sure that there is no language that would even slightly paint the cult as a legitimate religion. To do so would be a pain to deal with.
  6. Re: Colorado State Board of Education- Applied Scholastics!

Haven't sent them yet, still editing. Someone before said that 5 pages is a little too long and yeah, 5 pages seems a bit much. I need to condense a little. I just had so many things I wanted to say lol.

I'll go over my wording in reference to Co$ and replace any "Church" with "Cult"... that should do the trick.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

Re: Colorado State Board of Education- Applied Scholastics!

In this one instance, connecting them to religion works in our favour. As Dr Dave's paper puts it "Is Study Tech Constitutional?"

Showing that they are covertly "indoctrinating" kids into Scientology - whether it's considered a cult or a religion - is baaaad.

When following the chain up from ABLE to $cilontololligy direct and looking for examples of the relationship manifesting irl, one comes across such as this...

US Immigration Admin Appeal: CoS caught applying for religious worker visa for an ABLE, Int employee - alt.religion.scientology | Google Groups

Basically, it's an application by the SeaOgres for a religious worker visa for an ABLE employee. Application denied.

Eh, this is true. I'm just advocating caution because if done wrong, and they get their grubby hands on the letter, they could broadcast it widely as "admission of their being a religion" despite very clear obvious "No they are not."

I would avoid the change of "Church of Scientology" to "Cult of Scientology" but only because the former seems less likely to be dismissed right off the bat.
Also, I think it's hilarious that they claim to be a religion and yet don't follow the rules on religion and state-run institutions. I wonder if it would be good to use this as an example for trying to get the Tax Exemption revoked?
  11. Re: Colorado State Board of Education- Applied Scholastics!

In the letters I've sent to government agencies I have always used the term: 'Scientology'. It avoids the whole religion question and is more all-encompassing given the myriad of sub-organizations within the cult.

Good job on the letter writing campaign Anongirl

Re: Colorado State Board of Education- Applied Scholastics!

The first time I saw "Applied Scholastics", I first thought of Scholastics (as in scholastic.com) that used to have the book bus that came to our elementary school once a year and we could order really cool books from it (meaning ones not in the library or actually educational). I would think that I'm probably not the only person who remembers these from the 70's to make that connection. People I went to school with then are the ones in charge of the schools now.

did a bit of reasearch, (because I dont exactly believe any thing on a scilon site)

on the Colorado Board of Education site,
    http://www.cde.state.co.us/FedPrograms/improvement/download/ss_providers.pdf

the following school districts have applied scholastics:
Adams-Arapahoe 28 (Aurora), Denver, Jefferson County

and Im not sure if this is relevent, but Ill add this bit of info:

from Congressman Jared Polis' web site:
I think it is a proposed bill. Maybe Congressman Polis would like to know that some of this money will be going into the hands of scientology
  14. Re: Colorado State Board of Education- Applied Scholastics!

Thanks for that extra info! All of the addresses I have are in Denver, in only 2different buildings, not including the congressmen/senators that are getting the same letter.

I thought that this was JUST approved (the date I found was Jan. 24, 2009), I had no idea it's been around since the beginning of the 2008 school year (ACK! WORSE THAN I THOUGHT!).

I really hope someone reads this letter (of 244 someone has to, right?) and gets infuriated and tries to get Applied Scholastics stopped in Colorado.

My future children will be going to school in Denver and I DO NOT want them exposed to anything associated with Co$! I'd be a homeschooling mo'fo'.

Re: Colorado State Board of Education- Applied Scholastics!

Im confused about how the whole money part works. School district gives $X.xx for tutoring, then 4% goes to applied scholastics? or to ABLE? ultimately what i guess im asking is what % goes to the COS.

In this case, the organization is applied scholastics (rather than simply study tech) so the money would be going directly to ???

Im just trying to figure it out so I can forward the info to some mother's groups i frequent. many of whom have children in SES programs, including CO.

Many of the children receiving SES services need the extra help due to dyslexia, autism, add/adhd, etc. Not the kind of children who should be around scilons.

The document I have, http://www.studytech.org/ASI-colorado-2006.pdf (you need adobe) says that the tutors will get $25.00 an hour PER child. Not including the 4% of revenue.

Is THIS what Colorado tax payers should be paying for? No. Definitely inform your mothers groups that this is most definitely paid for with state tax money.

Same problem with the Second Chances thing. Tax payers paid for their funding and that's a big reason it was on the news so much.

Please give your mothers groups a link to Ex-Scientology Kids so they can understand how $cientology treats children! That will get some feathers ruffled for sure!

Re: Colorado State Board of Education- Applied Scholastics!

Study Tech trademark is owned by Applied Scholastics INC. Applied Scholastics Inc is in turn "owned" by ABLE.

I'm not quite sure how the Colorado program works. Presumably, a Scilon-run company provides Study Tech-trained tutors to the Board of Ed. Board of Ed pays the company $X for the contract to supply the tutors. This company licenses Applied Scholastics/Study Tech from Applied Scholastics INC and must pay Applied Scholastics INC 4% of $X. Tutors are paid by the company out of what's left over.

Sauce: http://web.archive.org/web/20040715154510/www.able.org/pages/grp_forms/aps_lic_agr.pdf License agreement for use of Applied Scholastics (4% fee of total revenue required)

my post from the old version seems to be missing after the merge as well...

It was use reverse psychology - send them email from "Grateful scientologists that appreciate their support" was the general gist.. not fucking retyping the whole thing.
