Craig Jensen uses Church of Scientology to PUNISH employees

This story is not recent, but shows typical behavior of an indoctrinated scientologist.

A salesrep for Craig Jensen's business Executive Software was working a trade show for his employer and was networking with people and went out to dinner with a competitor of Executive Software. The company "found out" (who knew it was bad to talk with someone?) and assigned this person lower conditions, removed his title, busted him from an executive level position with commensurate pay down to minimum wage, and required this employee (who was also a Scientologist) to go to the org and pay for several intensives (12.5 hours) of auditing for a sec check (confessional on the meter). The guy was devastated and humiliated. He didn't have the money for the sec check (well over $10K) but somehow made it go right to get into session.

This is what Scientologists like Craig Jensen do. Craig Jensen, who had announced that he would always keep his company because he was using it to "make Scientologists" and to help Scientologists "get up the Bridge". This is the type of "justice" Scientologists do to their own kind.

Imagine as a businessman having the whole power (shock and awe) of the Church of Scientology as your backup overseer, to goad your employees when they don't do what you want and punish them when they do things you don't like.

Hubbard wrote that Scientology auditing was for the person himself. It was not to be used as an organizational tool against people. We already know that the Church of Scientology uses sec checks against their own staff. Who knew you could tap into its evil uses for other companies, too.

I'm taking a wild guess here, but perhaps the OP has never had a real job?

It was tongue in cheek, Dodo-Anon. That sentence was to point out that even the Scientologists don't follow Hubbard policy.

God! How many people don't understand English?

It was Jensen's company that PUNISHED an employee for normal networking in his own business field.

I used to work for a computer software company and went to trade shows. We networked with everyone. There were no "competitors"; life was not cut-throat. Everyone was curious about what everyone else was doing. Everyone was CIVIL.

Anyjane, have you ever been "punished" by an employer, or had your pay cut from executive level pay to minimum wage?

No, as I've never gone to dinner with competitors (even if you say they don't exist many times they do depending on what your area in the field is). It's just bad form. A good meal plus a few drinks in the belly and you may spill something your employer doesn't want them to know.

And you think taking most of someone's pay - indefinitely, until they get a sec check at their own expense at the cult of scientology - is appropriate "punishment"?

Considering many places would fire your ass in a second and leave you with no job at all- shrug.

Sorry, can't get internet ragged over someone hanging with the competition and getting busted over it. It's just not there.

I can. Discipline may or may not be expected, but coerced ecclesiastical punishment is fucked up and likely illegal too boot.

^^^^ what she and she said.

I have worked in environments where "associating with the enemy" was grounds for severe punishment. "The enemy" being, a co-worker in another department of the same company.

Having lunch with a senior management person (couple pay levels above my boss) - even worse. Srsly bad form, and bad idea and, well, I was on my way out anyway. ;)

I've also worked for companies that were so desperate for [anything], that we were *encouraged* to hang out with competitors. We hired some jerks who'd (theoretically) been laid off from one of those competitors. Who ended up stealing most of our "sekrets" and sending them back up to the guys they probably had been working for all along.

Bottom line is: depends. Capitalism is as viscous as it is vicious.

Re: Craig Jensen uses Church of Scientology to PUNISH employees

totally separate issue from what the above quoted posters were yakking about.

Sec-check / lie detecting / etc are not appropriate punishment, and have laws which regulate them.

Having dinner with a couple guys from across the street- is not regulated by law in most places.

Re: Craig Jensen uses Church of Scientology to PUNISH employees

Whether having dinner with a person from another company is OK totally depends on the company YOU are working in. It's not like there's some kind of standard saying that this is wrong.

Sometimes people within the same company can't talk together because of "firewall" regulations, or other statutory requirements, but hanging out with competitors is fine.

    Depends on the company.

But that aside having employees pay for their own sec checks at a Scientology org to try to get their position back, that is just fucked up.

Well said, Zak, and I think *that's* a good point to nail home, not the demotion angle.

Re: Craig Jensen uses Church of Scientology to PUNISH employees

The guy couldn't have his position (and pay) back until he completed his sec check with the Church of Scientology.

Minimum of two intensives with the advanced org of scientology. Let's see: Today's rates at Flag FSO are $7,865.00 per intensive (with IAS member discount, and I'll assume the guy was an IAS member), which brings his penalty to a minimum of $15,730 for the sec check.

And the elapsed time to get a sec check like this done from "order" to "completion" (while still working a job) would probably be about 6 weeks.

6 weeks at minimum wage is $1,920 tops! (subtract typical payroll deductions)

Since he was an executive, let's guess that he might have been making akin to the Godelman and LeShay guys - about $100,000/year.

So their loss of wages during the sec check might be $10,080. Add to that the sec check and the guy is out $25,000 - which, incidentally is 1/4 of his annual wage.

I don't know how any company can legally penalize an employee like that. Fire him, maybe. But that penalty is unconsciounable in my book.

Re: Craig Jensen uses Church of Scientology to PUNISH employees

Remember that the recent lawsuit against Craig Jensen and his company was for practicing scientology in the workplace and forcing others to do so "as part of their job".

I remember y'all being incensed about THAT.

Re: Craig Jensen uses Church of Scientology to PUNISH employees

Let me sort it out for you.

    OP said (essentially)

"Employee [did something Boss didn't like](1). Boss responded with disciplinary actions(2), including demotion(3) and E-Meter sec-check(4). Employer did this because Employer is a major cult-sucking scifag(5) and adherence to scifaggotry is apparently a job requirement(6)."

#5 is relevant to our interests. And yours too, I suspect.
#4 is relevant to our interests, and probably illegal.
#6 if true, is illegal. And worth all the raeg you want.

#1,2,3 are unfortunate, but probably not illegal, and not really relevant to all the Anonymouses here present.

Personally, I think #2 and #3 suck, and the boss sucks, and its unfair, but they are a function of ego and not LRH's mind control system. In composite, it becomes a cool story, bro.

    Good summary.
Yeah without 1, 2 & 3 the story wouldn't have made any sense.
