Thanks to the tireless research efforts of a.r.s. denizens, not to mention a serendipitous outbreak of scientology-affiliated business collapses, Brian Andrus must toil in anonymity no longer.
Unindicted kidnapper Andrus turns up as moderator of a soon-to-be-infamous war room meeting of TradeNet Incorporated, currently under investigation for fraudulent business practices in Utah and Florida.
TradeNet, a pyramid-style MLM "distribution network" for the sadly completely ineffective Laundry Ball, brought in Andrus to act as moderator when TradeNet head honchos met in Clearwater to figure out how to defend the company against threatened class action lawsuits and possible criminal charges. Although it is not known what Andrus' involvement was with TradeNet before the dam burst, excerpts from the meeting, transcripts of which were subpoenaed by the Florida Attorney General, suggest that he was in close contact with Flag and the local OSA.
When he isn't terrorizing recalcitrant scientologists, Andrus seems to be employed as a 'consultant' to firms in the gas and oil industry, including British Petroleum, reported to have been one of the Admin Tech success stories touted by the CoS at this year's New Years Eve event.

Are the people who own Creative Loafing affiliated with the Church of Scientology? I have a vague recollection of being told 13 years ago that Ybor Square was Scientology owned, but we were drinking that night, so it could be a false memory.

Tampa, Florida -- It is one of Tampa's most famous building complexes, dating back to 1886. Ybor Square, which houses the Spaghetti Warehouse and Creative Loafing newspaper, is owned by the Church of Scientology. As a religious building, the church will be exempt from paying almost $75,000 in property taxes.

Vince Pardo, the head of the Ybor Community Development District, says that is a big concern, because the taxes generated are the budget for Ybor City.

Pardo says he is also worried about the Scientologists taking up the limited parking spaces in the district. But the biggest question is how the Scientologists got approval from the city and zoning administrator Catherine Coyle, because places of religious assembly are prohibited in that part of Ybor City.

Coyle told us it was approved, because the Church said it was basically for office space. However, we reminded Coyle the Scientologists told the city they would conduct Sunday morning services and would use the office space to conduct their religious services.

At that point, Coyle changed her stance and said even though there was some religious activity that would be held there, it was considered an accessory use. When we reminded Coyle that an accessory use as a religious place of assembly is also prohibited, she then changed her stance again and said it was a place of assembly.

While Coyle says there was no way she could restrict religious activity at the project, experts say she is dead wrong.

Land use attorney Mark Bentley is an adjunct professor at USF and teaches land use to grad students. He says to him, it is clear and there is no debate. Bentley says the city jumped the gun.

We contacted the Church of Scientology, but it didn't have any comment.

Truly this is a problem with city zoning, not the church. Opponents have until June 5 to appeal the ruling. Some say they are worried about taking on the powerful church.

Oh yeah sure... an Ideal Org is an "accessory use" for the Church of Scientology.

Cuban Club member Patrick Manteiga, who publishes the weekly La Gaceta, says he doesn't understand why the zoning department fast-tracked the issue without doing more investigation.

Manteiga is negotiating with the Church to deal with issues that concern many in Ybor City. He says the district wants assurances the Church won't expand, will allow people to tour the historic building, work on parking issues and not enforce the 1,000-foot separation between bars and churches. A spokesman for the Church says it has no problem agreeing to those conditions.

gentlemen, we have a poon target..perhaps Mr Manteiga needs some more info about the neigbourliness of scientology and how well they keep promises
