Literally jaw agape - The Daily Mail??? What the fuckitty-fuck is going on, there seriously strange things afoot!

Really, REALLY effective piece (& rather classy liberty-taking with the Cruise pic location!). Commented, read & re-read just to make sure I wasn't losing my mind. Am I going to have to start getting The Mail...

I know!! Like you, and Stu Wyatt, I am in utter disbelief. This is by far, the most well written article on Scientology in the British press. Serious kudos to them.

I never thought I would say I respect the Daily Mail! Jeez...

Please post here if you see this in print.

btw, I suggest we also googlebomb 'John Travolta' with the Daily Mail article.

Fantastic article. Still no comments up but hopefully will come through soon.

The Daily Mail has always been anti-scientology. Scientology is a non-British, non-religion, breaking up families and not paying tax in the UK. Daily Mail readers hate that sort of thing.

Important to understand how different papers approach the subject.

AND I understand that they are giving away free period drama DVDs all week :)

Anarchy in the UK = loud tutting over tea & toast for Mail readers if this hits print!

Weird faith leading to total denial, unfortunately , yes sealed his fate right from the start. Still in denial is the problem.

Oh that's so wrong that it couldn't be righter(?!)
  10. Re: Daily Mail - "Did John Travolta's wierd faith seal son Jett's Fate?"

    Well, yes.

But it still doesn't detract from the shock of the Daily Fail actually getting it, not just right, but bang on the money.

Everybody be on the lookout for flying pigs, polite chavs, and Satan throwing snowballs at Hitler.

most epic article since the Time article 17 years ago. Mr. Miscavige has to be in great distress at this moment.

They've made a stand against the cult in the past and this is another good article.
It's always worth checking who's done accurate reports on scientology in the past to know who to send new or updated stories to. You don't have to agree with the whole publication.
  14. Re: Daily Mail - "Did John Travolta's wierd faith seal son Jett's Fate?"

^ This. Out of all the UK papers, it's the Mail who are doin it rite - I'm scared.

But this is serious win. The Mail reaches a HUEG amount of the 'middle England' population, who probably haven't heard (or care) much about this yet - this is fantastic exposure.

    LOL, reminded me of QI:

pooned for kaja ballo and GREAT JUSTICE

Now off to catch the 4.25 flying pig to Glasgow.

Speaking of cognitive dissonance, discovering that the Mail can actually do effective journalism is seriously going to distort my world view.

    the fail is win

Re: Daily Mail - "Did John Travolta's wierd faith seal son Jett's Fate?"

The only place they didn't win was where they claimed the cult is still growing. Buuuut.... in a way that is also win in a way because it will stir up fear in the masses that this sick cancer is still growing. So it's failwin I guess.

But the rest of the article is a OMGWTFBBQ for scientology. They are going to be climbing the walls in Hemet and LA trying to get away from David Miscaivages tiny fists of fury.

IIRC, the National Enquirer earned a rep for serious investigative journalism around the time of the O.J. Simpson murder trial. It can happen...

Did anyone happen to take a screenshot in the wee hours when this went up? Trying to work out what changes went in at 9:31am. Can't see anything glaring (though I'm not 100% it said "balderdash" before - excellent Mail-friendly touch that!) but it was five in the morning when last I read it.

Curious about the comments too - I have visions of such a ferocious tide of foaming-at-the-mouth pro-$ci messages that the poor IT guys had to go away for a nice sit down to recover :)

Re: Daily Mail - "Did John Travolta's wierd faith seal son Jett's Fate?"

There's an economic reason for that. Investigative journalism is very expensive and difficult, and often ends up in lawsuits. You are trying to get information about people who generally will go all out to keep you from getting it, and if you do get it, to keep you from putting it out in public.

The profit margin is a lot better on just cutting and pasting whatever shit you got in a press release from the White House/Scientology/whoever. You don't have to hire real journalists. Just blow-dried flakes minimally literate enough to read from a cue card will do. Nobody will sue you for this, because the people who would do the suing are the people you're taking dictation from.

It's a danger of the consolidation of media ownership that real investigative journalism these days simply doesn't get done, because the only people funding "journalism" at all are threatened by it and want as little of it as possible. Add in that it isn't terribly profitable, unless it's about O.J. Simpson or a missing white girl or some similar subject, and you have American journalism. (And journalism to a greater or lesser degree in the rest of the world for that matter.)

This is why, while it's great when journalists do investigate Scientology, when there's an issue involving a celebrity or otherwise of general interest, we shouldn't really expect it. (There are exceptions like Tony Ortega, of course.) Generally, if you want the media to get stuff out there, you have to spoon feed them, because they aren't going to get off their fat asses and do a damn thing themselves. They will sit there and paste some sound bite from Tommy Davis, and if we're lucky, a sound bite from a critic.

Harpooned the Daily Mail, are open to comments. Can't remember if the Daily Mail is part of Murdochs empire but if it is, as i've said before his deep pockets make him afraid of no cult, all he want's is more sales. !!

Or they come to sites like this one, and skim off the investigative journalism of activists. Web 3.0, baby.

Re: Daily Mail - "Did John Travolta's wierd faith seal son Jett's Fate?"

Or do we ... ? The only way to know is for a certain short angry alcoholic midget short man tiny person runty miniaturized extremely small height-challenged micro-dwarf to pummel some more people about the head and shoulders (he has to stand on a ladder in order to do this). Is scientology anti-prescription shoe also? Because David Miscavige clearly needs a pair. Because he is short. Haha what a shorty mcshortshort he is!

(directions for OSA: please print this out and place wherever he might see it, underneath tables, inside the short-man urinal (laminate this one!), in Thomas Mapother's bed under the sheets, 3 feet off the ground at the end of prominent hallways, various places like that where he would see it from his elevation-restricted point of view, thanks in advance)

    fix'd

which is why this old fart (me) has learned from you anons to get information on-line, thanks for the education

PS: I came to this anti-sci campaign for moral-faggotry reasons...and then fairly quickly expanded my reasons to include freedom of information on-line.

Anon is fighting an important war, good on ya, and good on the Daily Mail for this article
