Scientology, Deep in the Heart of Texas: The Voice at the Debbie Cook Hearing by Tony Ortega, Village Voice. 9th Feb 2012 http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/2012/02/scientology_dee.php Twitter feed: http://twitter.com/voicetonyo
2nd update: RugBurn to Tony:"They moved to exclude the media. She told them to shove it." I assume judge holds shares in the popcorn futures market <-(can be very volatile i'm told)
Ooooo! Joe Childs and Thomas Tobin are there too! (And three TV outfits.) No whining? That's usually a major part of CoS's legal strategy.
Moxon is a chump bully sent in against under-lawyered opponents. I'd expect one of their expensive lawyers like Eric Lieberman.
Jeez! Still trying to use the agreement to scuttle DC's legal defense. What a bunch of scum bags. BigBeard

If we ever get the footage. Though I bet bits and pieces will be shown on tonight news. At least those in Texas. This whole thing is absolutely epic.
Hold your horses peeps... According to Michael Board they are showing the video of Debbie signing the contract: Vid of cook agreeing to leave church w/ Cali lawyer of #ScientologyShe does not look under duress. On tape, Cook starts crying. Asked, she said she was sad she was leaving sea org #Scientology This is not good
She doesn't need to be under duress at the very moment of the signing. She could be psychologically and physically tortured for weeks in order to convince her to sign that piece of paper. It's quite normal that once she made up her mind to sign it, she would feel relieved that it's over, and would look OK on camera at the moment of signing.

I want to check here before Marty and Mike get up to testify ... if they testify against the Cult in a manner that is persuasively damaging against the Cult, will they get credit here for having done so? Or will there be more whinging and cursing and gnashing of teeth?
Is teh cult likely to set up a tent city to sway the decision like they did for the Wollersheim & Titchbourne cases? Hopefully the chance for a mega-brawl
Credit where credit is due. I will applaud them for taking the stand against the cult, but that won't make them the savours of mandkind or anything.
Of course he is, afterall - Tortega The Tease. The art of being a tease his where does his best work.
From @MikeBoard1200 twitpics ^^And church attys #Scientology I sees no Moxon. Is that by chance strictly the local firm?
If the Mox was going to be sitting in any proceedings then it is more likely to be the other major one running today, closer to home and in the state where he's licensed to practice, i.e. The Headley's v Scientology hearing on the appeal against the summary judgment. From VV blog: Things start to heat up as Spencer continues to question Debbie Cook... Spencer: You understood that it would not only be against Scientology ethics but also affirmatively fraudulent if you accepted the $50,000 unless you intended to live up to the agreement. Cook: I understood that if I took the upper level materials and I put them out to broad public, or if I did something that was an outright violation of our ethics codes, that that would not be OK. Does that answer your question? Spencer: You're saying that if you lived up to the spirit of the agreement, then it was OK for you to accept the money? Cook:First, I never expected or asked for the money. I was going to need medical assistance....We did not plan on getting that money...and it was to make nice at the end. Also, I was out of it. I intended to sign whatever I had to sign to live. I signed pieces of paper that they wanted me to sign so that I could go. Spencer: So you had no intent to live up to the bargain? Cook: Really, the only thing that was in my mind was to leave. 2:54 pm. Spencer has now entered the New Year's Eve e-mail into evidence as exhibit 7. Spencer: "Let's go through exhibit 7 line by line." (OMG, we'll be here for weeks. What is he thinking?) Surprised there wasn't an OBJECTION to the 'spirit of the agreement' statement.

If she didn't cash the check she would be declared SP and suffer disconnection and fair game. What's your point OSA?
@Ess4Matt Everyone..Scientology is NOT a cult/believe in alien gods/take all our money away or brainwash...they just make life happier & easier. Someone tell him...

From Tikk , ESMB: To address a point I keep seeing, yes, you can sell your free speech rights, they are waivable, and if Cook's case relies on that argument, she'll lose.
she knew it was gonna happen anyways. my "OSA" point is if she only signed the NDA to GTFO, why did she cash the check? If she didn't scilons couldn't do shit to her.
