I like the statement "we've been informed by authorities". This means:

1. Cops don't call to tell you that your mail server has been hacked. It's usually the other way around. Anonymous = The Authorities?
2. They're not "working with authorities" to find the supposed perpetrator.
3. No valid company would just put out a plain text statement buried on their piddly website to issue a frigging $50K reward. Something like this would hit the press if it were real and.... omfg the press.

I don't think Tom Newton = Alan Connor. Trolling styles too different. I've seen both in action and have been responded to by one of them on USENET once. Both use proxies, and I think Tom Newton has a better chance of being in Arkansas than in the mountains with a tin-foil satellite and challenge/response system.

No, I'm aware not everyone got the emails. What I meant was no one who registered after mid-May got one. Speaking from experience, and I think it was somewhat corroborated. Could the selection possibly have something to do with plausibly real names? I doubt doxing someone named Cooler Ranch is going to be very intimidating.
