Dutch writer Gerrit Komrij against Scientology

Gerrit Komrij: De stankbel van de Nieuwezijds

A very nice article on Scientology from Gerrit Komrij, a Dutch writer.

Maybe I'll try to translate this article also, but I cannot even dream of writing as good as Komrij... :frustration:

So if anyone who knows Dutch and is better in English than I am thinks (s)he can do it... go ahead :anon: !

Holy crap, that's a long article to translate. But I'll try my hand at it sometime if no-one beats me to it.

Well, the report "Scientology in the Netherlands" is 32 pages, this piece is "only" 9...

    Go ahead Synonymous...

What's the best English version of the book title "De stankbel van de Nieuwezijds"?

Here's something else that I'm trying to find a translation of:
    http://www.spaink.net/cos/essays/tk84_rapport.html
Google translates "Rapport van de subcommissie sekten van de vaste Tweede Kamer Commissie voor de volksgezondheid" to "Report of the Subcommittee sects of the permanent House Committee on Public Health."

    See https://whyweprotest.net/community/threads/scientology-in-the-netherlands.14020/

This was from the Enturb days when it was possible to put an attachment to a post.

You're lucky, I still have the english translation.

Please PM me with an e-mail-address so I can send it.

As I said, simply PM me.

At some point will the .txt or .pdf move from PM to being hosted somewhere?
  11. Etain Member

Can't find PM option? Doing something wrong????
  12. TrevAnon Member

I have .DOC, .PDF en .TXT-versions.

If someone can host one or more of them please do so.

Would like to say though that it is a rather boring report and AFAIK it did not lead to any measures by Dutch government.

Not sure, but I think Dutch government is re-assessing the cults in the Netherlands - including Scientology. If I hear anything about it, I will look at it, and maybe also translate it.

Oh, and sorry. PM = Private message. This is called "conversations" now. Go to Inbox and select "start conversation". :)

LOL. Didn't think anyone would be interested. What's it called? "Thread necromancy"? ;)
  14. Etain Member

    Ah, thought so! :)

I'm the one that did the thread necromancy and all I really wanted was what "De stankbel van de Nieuwezijds" means it English :p
BTW, you can upload any formats to http://www.fildump.se/ or just copy/paste the .txt to http://pastebin.com

    Oh I see.

"De stankbel van de Nieuwezijds" roughly translates to "The stench bubble at the Nieuwezijds".

"Nieuwezijds" being short for the "Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal" which is the street where COS has its org.

Updated its 1979 entry at http://htmlpad.org/Scientology/ (tick the "Non-English" box to better show it)

I also added another 10 non-english books from the 1990s to that page for the hell of it, and the page is now machine readable for search engines with a Microdata API.
(I only just started adding bookcovers on hovering the green entries, so no need to point out wrong covers for books, it's "under construction" :p)

That came in handy for implementing a treat just for Firefox users: in-page searching.

Experimental ECMAScript 6 is used so nothing serverside is needed. The other browsers will only work once they implement that too. They always have Ctrl F ;)
