Look at things logically - if the US did manage to ensnare Assange the entire planet would be up in arms, not least the newly liberated Arab Spring countries that relied on his leaks to develop their platform of dissent. Ecuador is stalling. They don't want Assange there any more than he wants to go. A lot of people whose hearts are in the right place are being played by that attention whore. Oh, and LOS needs to work on her people skills.

Diplomacy has its own rules and rituals, Ecuador government must play in that tune, so just wait and see... They must use up all peasfull possibilities, and than they can say :"We offered you all combinations, so we are going to take Assange with us" (I hope that I am wright, I want to believe that it will happen just like that)
It's possible that it will, but I believe the best that can be hoped for is for Ecuador to get assurances from the U.K., Sweden and the U.S. that Assange will not be extradited to the U.S. regardless. The prospect of Ecuador offering asylum, then the Brits nabbing him as soon as he sets foot outside the embassy would guarantee the max embarrassment for everyone.

That's not what he said. The US under Nixon and Kissinger, mounted a coup to overthrow Salvador Allende, to name just one instance. They won't go after Ecuador solely for Assange, but will go for the whole enchilada. Correa, they don't like. He's on the same list Chávez and the Castros are on.
They also attempted/assisted an assassination of Chavez around 2003 or so, South American countries have been quite the thorn in the US State Department's side. Hillary has spent a lot of time there in recent years trying to bring the offending countries onboard. Yet still many of these countries will just not roll-over and do what the US tell's them to do.
