Can anyone offer any evidence that the MB will take over after the revolution? So far, if you have been following the protester interviews, it really seems like the Egyptian people have no intention of letting them anywhere near taking over.

So does anyone have anything substantive to offer to back the MB claims up? Or is this simply about repeating a content-less claim?

Here's an analysis of that by STRATFOR, a fairly right wing private intelligence agency:

Not to say that the MB doesn't have a scary side, but demonizing the MB and scaring the moderate Egyptians into crawling back to his dictatorship is 100% of Mubarak's plan on how to stay in power. It isn't working in Egypt, but it does still carry weight internationally.

I was thinking there was a good chance that it was the police themselves involved in looting and rioting in order to frighten people into staying home.

Being wary of the MB is not the same as wanting Mubarak back in power. The point of bringing attention to the possibility of Egypt being taken over by Muslim fundamentalists is so that people are alert to the possibility and take steps to make sure this does not happen, by for example increasing security for people who are potential rivals for the MB.

Good move.
Progress is being made, but Mubarak still needs to completely remove himself.

The MB is currently claiming they are not involved yet they are the only group commenting on anything.

I support the idea of what is happening but removing Mubarak is the easy part. I think its foolish to assume that the MB and Iran, AQ, and other Islamic fundi groups, that are willing to strap themselves with explosives, are going to benevolently stand by during a major political power vacuum and let the people choose their own path.

Despite what is being reported and what the majority of people may want; there are many who believe Jihad is better than secular freedoms. It's not a far stretch to see the pressures of religion being used against those who seek a more a just form of government.





Nobody knows how this will end, and I hope it ends in favor of peace and freedom. From what I can see the cards are stacked against this ending in a more peaceful world.

The Muslim brotherhood was hesitant in the beginning to support the protests, I guess this won't be forgotten if this uprising is succesful in getting Mubarak out of government. Also, if the protesters are able to stand up to a police state that has been using lethal force, censorship and torture against them and able to do so succesfully it stands to reason they would also be able to stand up to an islamist government if it became repressive. Furthermore, it's not just Mubarak who is opposed to the islamists, but the military too and the military is popular with the people.

Yes, things will become more complicated for Israel and the United States and one has to watch out for what Iran is doing, but these autocratic regimes were never going to last forever and IMHO their support also eroded the democratic values in the western countries. Maybe this means there will finally be less hypocrisy. There are risks, but there are chances too. Probably not everything will be good, but not all bad either. A bumpy ride is likely going to lie ahead either way.

THIS^^^ That is what I've been saying, that this is a prime opportunity for a religious fundie group to try and make a move. Did I ever say that the MB (or any group) WILL seize power? No, merely that they will try. Did I ever say that because of that the revolution should stop and Mubarak should remain in power? Fuck no. This isn't an either/or situation, people, and anyone who's trying to make it seem so is denser than a block of lead. Do I think the MB can or will seize power? I dunno, but I bet it'll make for one interesting as shit civil war.
