    State authorities in Kyrgyzstan are trying to fight practices of bride kidnapping in the country.

    Research suggests about a third of all marriages are conducted through abduction and a girl is forced to marry against her will.

    Many believe bride kidnapping is an ancient Kyrgyz tradition but some researchers argue it became popular only a few decades ago.

    Two victims of bride kidnapping spoke to the BBC.

    Of course a certain segment of the population would claim it was tradition, sadly the others will support it and before to long it will become accepted fact. :(

    yeah but i think in manly african and some pacific tribes tho i could be wrong

    The point is that harmful, unethical, or criminal acts remain so even when they are traditions. If the best you can say about a practice is that it is a tradition, then it's time to put an end to it.
