    10 NOVEMBER 2013: VENUE SECURED.

    FLAG DOWN 2014
    http://www.flagdown.org/

FLAG DOWN 2014 is a five-day conference in Clearwater, Florida, USA in May 2014 where ex-members and critics will expose the fraud and abuse of the Scientology cult. May 5th-9th will be the conference and May 10th will be the mega-protest.

This is a joint enterprise between Irish, Clearwater, and many other critics.

We are raising funds to host this conference in Clearwater to expose the abuses and fraud of the Scientology cult in their mecca.

We are trying to raise $9000.00 in total to pay for transport, venue, accomodations, technical, and promotional items.

LINK TO THE FUNDING PAGE: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/...he-fraud-and-abuse-of-the-scientology-cult--4

Contributors will be rewarded with buttons, t-shirts, flags, books, and other memorabilia.
There will be 5 consecutive conference days followed by a weekend of protests.
The entire event will be live streamed and made available on video for eternity.
A press pack will be produced and made available to attendees.
If we do not make our target, funds will either be returned or retained as we reset our goals.

This is the event many people have been wanting for a long time.

This is the time for an event of this magnitude in Clearwater.

We invite you to join us in Clearwater when we say:

how are people paying? any safer way to pay? can I send a money order in? and to where?
  9. amaX Member

We're using Indiegogo which is what some other critics have used to fund their various projects.

Suggestion: please do consider asking OG skeptic/critic Jim Lippard if you haven't already. Although he was out of the game for a long time, his contributions in the past year (Skeptic Mag article & public speaking lecture at a couple of skeptic organizations) have been significant. And he would bring a scholarly/academic type presentation into the mix for rounding things out nicely.

Pro tip; 7 days is wayyyyyyy too long. You'll be burned out after 3. Also, why not just let people pay their own way, rather than some Stranger in a Strange Land punch bowl approach? Also, don't just assume local media will take any advertising you might be planning. Also, $25k seems a bit high. Us OG were penny-pinchers, but we accomplished some stuff, and did it on the cheap.

    Otherwise, good luck.

I thought it was only 5 days? But three days seems like enough to me. And it wouldn't be as costly.
Anyways, I am tickled to death about this event if it happens, but I have to agree about the length and the cost. It seems a little bit too ambitious for today's economy?
    *shys away from the keyboard*
No offense AMA. Love the idea to death and this NEEDS TO HAPPEN, and I think it can be fabulous and ground breaking....
But If you raise money to pay for the venue it will be held in (how about the Ft. Harrison? :p) and the food, that would be great, but can't people fly in and pay for their own hotel and air? Which would probably be expected by them? They have till next May to save for it.
Also if you don't meet your goal of 25K, maybe go back to the drawing board on the length of the venue and expenses?
Just thinking out loud, don't be hating.

AMA, do you plan to pitch a tent?
If so, remember no signage, but you can use a "religious symbol".
Oh, and get your stats up.

We can't see any of your financial information.

I'm very upbeat about this conference so I'm going to try my hardest to be cordial to you even though there is a long history of your insinuating yourself into our protests and events here in Clearwater by telling us over and over how we should and should not do things.

FIVE days of conference and TWO days of protesting. If you can't handle that then don't attend the event or just come for a few days.

I doubt anyone is going to be bored or burned out after three days. We have some exciting things planned.

We would like to pay to bring the speakers to Clearwater because it's an area of Florida that's become touristy for much of the year which makes it somewhat expensive to travel and stay here. We feel it's only right to make arrangements for people from all over the world to join us here and do us a service by telling their stories in a place that very well might be the last place on earth they wish to be. I say this because I know firsthand that this is true of one of the already confirmed speakers. I am sure there will be more than one person who speaks at this conference who will not find it a sunny vacation in Florida.

For your information one of the first people I called was someone from the media and this person asked me very nicely to please contact them as soon as our plans were finalized. That's just the very first one any of us organizers have contacted. I can't go into the others that we're talking to because it's just too juicy. :D

It's touristy Florida. It's more expensive to travel here and it's more expensive to stay here. $25K might sound like too much to you, but I assure you that we have gone over the tentative budget with a fine tooth comb and that's the number we settled on. This is 2014. It's not twenty or thirty years ago.

RO, please see my response to Jacobsen for answers to your questions.
