I've been the programming (speaker) head for several conventions, ranging from 500-person to 2200.

We only needed 2-4 days. Even the World Science Fiction Convention, one of the world's largest (and longest-running) all-fan-run conventions, runs only 5 days.

I can understand how, coming from Europe, a longer event means more of an excuse to come, but you'll lose Americans who don't want to devote an entire fucking week of their paltry vacation time. If you don't get Americans in significant number, you'll fail. We aren't guaranteed any vacation time, and we'd need to take time off to go to this thing.

A week really is unreasonably long.

There is no obligation to attend the entire week is there.
  3. Anonylemmi Member

No. Unless you want to hear all the speakers. So a tighter schedule makes sense.

I have resisted posting much about this event.

    I think I'll keep resisting.

True, but people who go to an event generally want to have the opportunity to see all of it. They may choose not to when they arrive, but that's a different thing.

Honestly if I could get there, even for a couple days, I would be so happy :)

  7. Hey now leave the "Stranger in a Strange Land" Folks out of this. As they/we say " At least we Know our Religion is Science fiction". Remember some of those folks would be more then happy to join your protest.

You are a passive aggressive jerk.

This is the first Chanology conference in CW. You know that.

I have a lot of experience planning large and important events. It's part of what I used to do when I was still working. Pete has successfully planned and hosted in Ireland.

Give me a complete list of the speakers, Jacobsen. Oh that's right. You can't. Because we have speakers who wish to remain ANONYMOUS until the last minute so they can bypass being fairgamed by the cult and we are honoring their requests. Since you have no idea how many speakers we have how can you do the math and figure out how many days this conference should run? You cannot. We are cutting it the damned bone as it is with the speakers schedules. We are barely fitting everyone into five days. Didn't think of that did ya?

Here's what we're going to do. The venue has had press before. We already know where the press will be set up in the main area and I also arranged for a press room at the venue so that members of the press could hold one-on-one interviews with the speakers in this separate area while the conference is going on. This press area is large enough for multiple interviews to be conducted at the same time. Didn't think of that either did you?

There are certainly people who Pete and I have asked/begged to help us, but they are people who possess skills that we don't have. You don't have more experience than Pete and I do.

Let's plan by having a slanging match. That always works out well.

Venue capacity is not what we're talking about here. I am hesitant to give out the venue capacity because I don't want to point the cult in the direction of the venue until it's absolutely necessary. What we are talking about here is the total time we have to fit these speakers into the schedule.

The conference is being held at night so that locals can attend. A daytime conference is not convenient for the people we would like to attract to the conference. We want people who work in offices, government, run businesses, etc. to attend. Those people mostly work through the day. We have about 5 hours a night with the option of starting earlier and ending later if it looks like we're going to need that. So we have about 25 hours to work with.

We have speakers who wish to remain anonymous so you don't know all of the speakers we have scheduled so you cannot possibly tell us that 2-4 days are enough. Five days is really cutting it to the bare bones. We were seriously going to have entertainers come out and maybe sing for us in between some of the speakers so that we'd have a bit of a break, but there is simply not even enough time for that so the idea was nixed.

We're not asking for Americans to devote an entire fucking week of their paltry vacation time to this conference. We're going to live stream it for those who cannot come AND anyone wishing to attend during their fucking paltry vacation CAN go do things during the day. Ideas for daytime fun? Beaches, St. Pete museums, Busch Gardens, the Sponge Docks, historic Dunedin. I got a million ideas I can pass along.

A week is not unreasonably long.

Jacobsen has consistently thrust himself into the Clearwater Cell's business. He has given bad and wrong advice to our Cell, to other people posting in threads about Clearwater, and thoroughly enjoys telling us how we're always doing everything wrong. His unsolicited advice on this conference is just another example of this behavior. The very fact that he does not have all the facts about the conference does not deter him from giving advice and opinions. It also doesn't stop him from whining once again that we never follow through on his unsolicited and ridiculous advice.

Jacobsen does not live in Clearwater. He does not live in the Tampa Bay area. He has no idea what goes on in this area now, but that also doesn't stop him.

There is a long history here of Jeff Jacobsen whining like a spoiled child because we can't and won't run with his unusable advice. I believe it gives him some kind of sad thrill when someone from Clearwater responds to his ridiculousness and I do try to let his less damaging posts slide, but sometimes I have to respond because he posts outright bullshit and I would hate for someone to believe his crap.

And he's very fucking lucky that Six is busybusybusy IRL.

If this thread is anything to go by the conference should provide a cornucopia of drama and lulz, even if the cult collapses between now and then.

  17. Clearwater has docks made of sponge?
Are there boats made of cake?
I am looking forward to this event though.
Do you think you could you could set aside some speaker time to discuss how fucking awesome I am.
And maybe set up a prayer group to pray for my happiness and well being.

The Sponge Docks are in my hometown of Tarpon Springs which is in the northernmost part of Pinellas Co.
There may very well be cake in the shape of a boat!
    Me too!
I will mention how awesome you are in my speech. Don't let me forget, okay?
Cancer p°nts, there's a saying from my neck of the woods that goes like this: "You and me are goin' to an old fashioned prayer meeting." Needless to say you did not get closer to God if this old fashioned prayer meeting happened, but you probably called for God to save you. Would you want a prayer meeting like this or do you want people to actually pray for you? Let me know 'cause I got peeps who can go either way.

Have you guys ever thought to invite FFRF groups from the local universities? Then again, this might be held during exam week.
This would be a nice opportunity to spread the word on how evil the cult is, as well as gain more members and critics

However, i am pretty certain that the Clear water FFRF would be interested in joining this event, if they haven't already. Seeing as the cult seems to think it runs the town.

AMA plans to buy a couple Ducati motorcycles, a bulletproof SUV, hire her own cook, hire her own valet, buy several pairs of custom shoes made by the booterer to the British Royal Family, buy a wardrobe custom made from Egyptian cotton, buy a condo in downtown Clearwater and opulently furnish it, buy a condo in Los Angeles and opulently furnish it, buy a gun collection, have a dentist crown all her teeth, buy several cases of Laphroaig scotch, and have the rest of it go into a numbered offshore bank account. Those are all reasonable expenses, right osabot?

I have always found you to be polite and helpful.
As to prayer groups, I was hoping you would sacrifice a bull in my honour.
If bulls aren't available, small mammals will do (Otters and so on)
You and pedro and those involved in setting this up have my deepest respect.

Seriously...try to wade through all the whiny crap from people who don't want us to succeed with this conference and I'll tease y'all with some good news about Flag Down 2014!

I have been working with a few local groups here in the Tampa Bay area and it looks like my efforts have been successful. A few more meetings and we'll have confirmation that these people are on board with us. No formal announcement will be made because anonymity is necessary with these people, but if this all goes our way you will notice Flag Down start to come together. :D It is SWEEEET.

Pete has done a wonderful wonderful wunnerful thing in the past few days concerning one of our speakers! I want to do the happy dance over this development. Pete has been doing all kinds of amazing things that will be sure to surprise people left and right. Joy Joy Joy!

Things are really coming together and it feels great.

    NOTICE!!!

***Any Chanology Cell or country that would like to have their flag fly at Flag Down 2014 is welcome to send us your flag and we will fly it! If you'll pay shipping to get it to us and give me your return address I will pay to ship it back to you after the conference is over. PM me for an address to send the flag.***
