That's the problem. Anons stay Anons only through a blind trust in the mods and admins, who can see everything going on, including PMs, IPs, email addresses, logs, etc.

No, I've never been an admin or mod. Don't know enough. And lord knows the guys with their hearts in the right place are taking on way more than I would ever be able to carve out in my day. But I've seen enough to know what they are able to access.

The truth is, no one who posts anonymously, here included, is actually anonymous to the guys with access. Hell, you can even erase your shit you've already posted for whatever reason, but the right guy can still have access to it through backups, etc.

Anons can use the many free and cheap resources on the internet (proxies, copious psuedonymous email services, etc.) to stay anonymous. This has been said before, many times. But anonymity still takes a lot of work. This has also been said.

One more thing: on WWP no one has access to your PMs. No one.

No-one can see any PMs that they are not invited to. da5id said some time back that he assumed he could write a script that would make XenForo allow him access to all PMs, but that he didn't think any of us had anything interesting enough to say for him to be bothered to do so. I tried to find the post, but failed, so no dox.

A while back on vBulletin, mods could see IPs. Here on XF, only admins (sue and d5) can see them. Mods can, and have on occasion, asked admins to compare IPs - an example would be when we smell a sock of a banned account. We never get the IP numbers, just a yes/no as to whether they matched.

Admins can see all e-mail addresses. Other that that, global mods can only see the e-mail addresses of new accounts during the spam cleaning option period, which is less than a week. No other mods can see any e-mail addys.

That said, protect your anonymity! I just felt the need to address the assertions made in the quoted post.
