Golden Era Productions, Labor Laws & Road Closures and millions of dollars

(This was originally an email response to someone that had asked me some questions. My answers got out of control. I decided to post it as it might contain info that pertains to other things)

"The pay depends on how much is being made each week.

If Gold only makes 100K in total income, then people don’t get paid.
Gold has to make anywhere from 300-400K per week in order for all staff to get paid the $50/week pay.

Out of that, taxes are taken out.

There is no way that Muriel paid that $2200 political contribution amount out of her pay. Impossible. That would be a large amount of her yearly pay and that would mean that she would not have money for anything personal, soap, shampoo, etc.

    In terms of my wages:

I worked for them from 1990-2005. These are my yearly Social Security wages as reported by them. Each week a portion of the $50 is paid into Social Security. (For the first half of 1990 I was paid some hours of minimum wage while working at ABLE INT in LA.)

MARC HEADLEY Wage Calculations for 1990-2004 (based on Social Security earnings reported by Golden Era)

Year Yearly wage Hours/wk Hourly Wage average for year

    1990 $ 5,574.00 101.5 $ 1.06
    1991 $ - 101.5 $ -
    1992 $ - 101.5 $ -
    1993 $ - 101.5 $ -
    1994 $ 1,901.00 101.5 $ 0.36
    1995 $ 2,350.00 101.5 $ 0.45
    1996 $ 2,613.00 101.5 $ 0.50
    1997 $ 1,703.00 101.5 $ 0.32
    1998 $ 2,285.00 101.5 $ 0.43
    1999 $ 2,335.00 101.5 $ 0.44
    2000 $ 1,155.00 101.5 $ 0.22
    2001 $ 1,923.00 101.5 $ 0.36
    2002 $ 2,689.00 101.5 $ 0.51
    2003 $ 2,772.00 101.5 $ 0.53
    2004 $ 2,427.00 101.5 $ 0.46
    $ 5.63
Hourly Wage Average for entire 15 years = $ 0.38

(Yes, for three years we did not get paid per this report - welcome to the Sea Org)

They will argue that employees at Golden Era do not get paid a salary, this money is just for expenses. But then why do they take out State and Federal taxes and Social Security? They have tried to figure out how to work in some loopholes by playing both sides of the laws.

Bottom line is that they are involved in Interstate and international commerce at Golden Era and most if not all staff there are entitled to not only minimum wages, but the equivalent wages under state and federal laws.

The bottom line on why Golden Era is so enclosed and so no outside people go in unattended is this:

Right now CSI/Golden Era pay their 500 employees a total of $25,000/week. (50 dollars per person, per week)

If the labor law violations were exposed, and they had to pay all of their employees minimum wages per the state and federal laws, this weekly amount would go up to $635,000 PER WEEK!

If Golden Era had to pay their employees the equivalent wages rates for the staff functions that are performed there each week their labor costs would go up to $1,640,870 PER WEEK!!!!!

So by violating the state and federal labor laws, and paying their employees LESS than Chinese Slave labor costs, Golden Era is currently saving themselves over 1.6 million dollars per week in labor costs!

This is over 85 million dollars per year is labor fees that these staff are NOT paid and the taxes are not paid on.

Golden Era compare themselves to other major movie and television studios in Los Angeles.
But Golden Era don’t pay their employees like other studios.
Other studios allow their employees to come and go as they please.
No studios anywhere in Los Angeles house their employees on site at the studio.
No studios in Los Angeles pay their employees .38 an hour to work for them while they make millions and millions off of their products.

Oh, BTW not only do I live blocks away from Disney, ABC, Warner Brothers, NBC and Universal, I have been on all of the lots. None of them have ANYWHERE near the security systems that Golden Era Productions have. No motions sensors on fences, no ground microphones, no thermal cameras. No razor barb wire facing in. A few guards and a regular fences. I even went so far as to speak with some of the staff at 4 of the studios about security measures. While none were very willing to detail out their security systems, they ALL agreed that at the end of the day, if anything does get stolen, it is usually covered by insurance and having basic security measures in place is adequate.

In terms of income that Golden Era generates, Golden Era JUST released a package of L Ron Hubbard Lectures at the Shrine Auditorium last week. These lectures were produced at Golden Era Productions from start to finish.

These lectures are being sold to members for $7500 per set. The entire set was produced at Golden Era for under $200 cost per set. That is a $7300 mark-up per set! They produced 1000 sets of these recently released lectures. If they sell all 1000 sets produced, that is 7.5 million dollars of income. If the employees are not being paid that money, then where does it go?

There is no question on why they spend so much keeping people inside.
There is no question on why people are hunted down when they leave.
There is no question on Golden Era wants the road closed.
There is no question on how most of the employees that do manage to escape have complained / reported crimes and labor violations at Golden Era.
There is no question why they willingly spend millions fighting as they stand to lose far more millions if they lose.

The only question is why are they allowed to continue to violate the laws? The answer is simply that no one has attempted to sue them and get them brought to justice. The local government officials helping them cover up their crimes does not help much either.

I am currently suing Golden Era for their violations of the state and federal labor laws. They have spent over 5 million dollars trying to have the case dismissed.

They have also now moved most if not all of the manufacturing facilities to Los Angeles in order to cover their tracks and prevent future lawsuits.

Dave Miscavige has threatened moving the entire Int Base to Florida several times over the years. One of the main reasons is the road, the local SP's and they legal risks that the Int Base presents.

Dave Miscavige has ordered the road CLOSED since the early 1990's. Until it is CLOSED, employees from Golden Era will have to attempt to close it. That is why they built tunnels, that is why they made it skinnier. That is why they put in the medians. These were all in an attempt to slow down the highway, get it reclassified and then closed DOWN.

Having protesters at the Base shuts the ENTIRE base down. One single protester with the word "Xenu" on a sign will require that all staff stay inside the entire time that protester is on the highway.

But the biggest threat in my mind is the new berthing buildings.

Dave Miscavige was the one who insisted that ALL INT BASE STAFF be moved onto the property. This prevents blows and it allows more hours to be worked each day not travelling to and from other locations to sleep. Also as Tiny Fists mainly works during the middle of the night after most people have gone to bed, having all employees on the property makes it so he can get anybody out of bed any time he wants in about five minutes flat.

This one factor sealed the deal on Human Trafficking violations. They know this and have dug themselves into a hole that they do not know how to get out of. They break the laws and it is very obvious.

They have some of the best paid labor defense attorneys in California working on this labor case and so far it is looking VERY bad for them in terms of getting away with their crimes. The used all of their normal excuses to try and have the case dismissed. None of them have worked so far.

(Insert message to Tommy Davis: Has anyone explained to you what witness tampering is yet? Either way, Thanks! - You have done great work!)"

I will be posting some more stuff later this week.

wow Marc, thanks for taking the time to type all that.
    Appreciated.

one also has to ask why their tax exemption is still in tact after all these obvious labor violations.

Everyone knows that any business that is tax exempt and breaks any laws, is no longer elligible for tax exemption.

Thanks for the update Marc, I am a little unclear how you have determined that there are 500 people working at Gold, this could effect the amount of money that they are paying out. Is that (500 SO working at gold) how many you estimate now or when you lived there ?

The last number of SO workers (slaves) I heard (and it was unconfirmed of course) was that there are only about 125 people left at Gold and that was probably a year ago.

I can't remember which thread it is in but we had somone join the forum recently who is local to Hemet or San Jacinto (can't remember) and posted that he/she knows of a bunch of scientologists living locally in an apartment block who get picked up everyday to go to the base. Sorry it's a bit sketchy.
I thought that was odd, especially thesedays with the massive negative press, but if they are foreigners with their passports held at the base then it could be true.

What time does a regular business day begin at Gold? I know they work any and all hours, but, if one wanted to use the "one-Anon-with-a-sign" tech, what time should he arrive in order to achieve optimum enturbulation? (note I would have a partner with a video camera, for security) I mean we want to disrupt their ability to start work, not keep them at their work stations longer.

Re: Golden Era Productions, Labor Laws & Road Closures and millions of dollars

500 is an estimate. I have not done a recent head count.

There is more than just Gold though.

There is Gold, ESI, CMO INT, CST & RTC.

In the recent years, there have been more and more CST, OSA INT, ASI and IAS staff showing up there too. David Miscavige is bringing in staff from other areas and then keeping them there.

The wage figures per person are very clear though:

    1. Sea Org Wages = $50 per week at 101.5 hours/wk

    2. Minimum Wage of $8/hr (includes DT and OT calcs) = $1232/wk
    History of California Minimum Wage

    3. Equivalent wages of $21.31/hr (includes DT and OT calcs) = $3281.74/wk
    Motion Picture and Video Industries

Equivalent wages are based on Motion Picture & Video Industry average wage for an administrative assistant. This is a low average. Some employees at Golden Era should be getting nearly twice this amount.

The apartments that they just built there house over 1200 employees. So I could easily do what they do and show what their salary potential or capacityis and jack the fugres out the roof!

Anyway, 500 is the figure that the locals throw around sometimes and Gold has used that figure, so I stick with it.

Here is the published daily schedule for Gold. This does not include staying up late which most employees are required to do on a regular basis. This was my schedule for 15 years.

    Daily Hours (per published schedule)

    7:45 8:00 Travel 0.25
    8:00 8:30 Breakfast 0.5
    8:30 12:00 Production 3.5
    12:00 12:30 Lunch 0.5
    12:30 5:00 Production 3.5
    5:00 5:30 Dinner 0.5
    5:30 11:00 Production 5.5
    11:00 11:15 Travel 0.25
    Total daily hours = 14.5

    Until next time..

Re: Golden Era Productions, Labor Laws & Road Closures and millions of dollars

It would be interesting to see what they have spent more money on, things likely to be stolen or the security that protects them (and keeps people from leaving) If they are spending more money on razor wire, security cameras, motion sensors and insurance than the value of the equipment, it would be hard to defend themselves by saying that those things are there to prevent theft. Likewise because employees are often responsible for theft it is hard to believe that having employees that could enter and leave freely (?) are not a security risk for theft.

These are local talent for foreign lecture recordings. Sometimes these are Scilons from other countries where there are no Sea Org employees. These people cannot stay overnight on the property as it is a major security risk.

Hey, Marc. Something I've always wondered. Since $ci Incorporated must file Soc Sec for each employee, doesn't this mean they have to fib (um, perjure) about the number of hours each employee worked? Otherwise, surely red flags for govt officials about the, what was it, $0.38/hour wage?

btw, just for a laugh, for 8 months I've wondered where I've seen your icon/avatar before. Finally, I glanced about 7 inches to the right of my monitor and saw the sticker on my older computer. doh

  28. Re: Golden Era Productions, Labor Laws & Road Closures and millions of dollars

That's a real good point. It may be worthwhile to make a new thread just for it.

Basic premise: how much have they spent on security for a small-to-mid-sized "production studio" vs the (estimated) price for the studio itself. The shit they have there is actually more elaborate (and expensive) than what the United States Government itself uses to protect it's own military instalations (I know that for a fact. I live right next to the USAF's premere training facility, Nellis AFB, and a couple of miles from the little-known, classified, "Area 2" facility).

Basicly, "why do you need XX-million dollar security system to protect a X-million dollar facility?!"

Anyway, what is needed is the cost at regular market prices (even if they are installed by workers who are paid $.38US/hr), of things like:
    • the price of fencing per foot of both the regular cyclone and the iron-bar type they use next to the road,
    • ultra barrier price per foot,
    • ground sensors price per 10ft instalation,
    • motion sensors price per 30ft instalation,
    • floodlights price per instalation,
    • cameras of various types price-per-unit plus installation,
    • the militry-grade telescope and IR camera instalation at the Eagle's nest,
    • the prices for an equvalant to the monotoring facility to coordinate all this high-end peeping gear (plus the cost for the duplicate system that was installed so the CoB can get his peep on, the perv),
    • prices for cabling/wireless/power/powerbackup that is needed to run all that crap,
    • cost associated for having a small army of on-site guards plus all their gear,
    • prices to run a fleet of pickups, golfcarts, and motorbikes which are used by the guards to get around the perimiter,
    • ect, ect, ect.

Fuck! Just listing all that crap is a formidable project own it's own!

Re: Golden Era Productions, Labor Laws & Road Closures and millions of dollars

Furthermore, if you can demonstrate that the costs of security for the "studio" vastly exceed the industry average, you could make a very good case that the security monies are instead being spent to trap people.

Re: Golden Era Productions, Labor Laws & Road Closures and millions of dollars

Yes that's what I'm reckoning on but it isn't just people who work in the printing/binding/packaging (and design too).

There's the studio A/V production facility staff, management and events team.

    There's cleaning, feeding, laundry.

There's a whole base to maintain and secure.

There's administration, planning, co-ordination. All needing staff.

Then, if they are allowed, they also have to fit time in to do a little bit of scientology.

Also do we count the 3 young south american boys living in DM's house? ;).
  32. Don Carlo Member

Re: Golden Era Productions, Labor Laws & Road Closures and millions of dollars

What country do those young South Americans men come from? Many countries have consulates in Los Angeles that would investigate exploitation of their citizens, especially if they are under 18.

If there are locks on the doors or too many bunk beds in a room, that is a fire hazard, and the localfire department can do surprise inspections if someone complains.

Re: Golden Era Productions, Labor Laws & Road Closures and millions of dollars

I don't know much about it either, but the way I understand it basically if Marc wins the others would still have to sue to get their money but they will have a much easier time getting lawyers to take their cases. And the cases will be easier to get thru the courts.

With a little bit of luck, the cases will also shine some light on the issue to government if the case meets the civil standard for human trafficking and labor cases, a State attorney might actually take notice and try to go for criminal charges. There will also be more discovery that might uncover evidence that can be taken to the feds to get charges filed.

Then if that works tax exempt status will likely be dropped if they are convicted of trafficking or labor violations.

Re: Golden Era Productions, Labor Laws & Road Closures and millions of dollars

And remember you don't need to cover everything they have in the studios just the things that could likely be stolen or vandalized with 500(?) people living there to guard them before the sheriff's department arrives. A thief might try to steal a computer, or a video camera but it would be hard to steal 20 of them under the noses of the people who are on base 24/7.
