BFG, with this post, you stoked my memory...

September 2007, you made another awesome post to OCMB: OSA - Want to make a trade? I will take payment in the form of one direct relative! However, there was this part:

    This got me worried:

But, fast-forward more than two years later, the amount of exposure you have mustered has been just plain awesome, and of course a whole lot seem to be in store for the future. Happy to see the unsettling was temporary :)

(I am at chapter 22 on your book.)

On top of the 14.5 hour working day, how many hours per day are they meant to dedicate to studying Scientology and moving further up the Bridge?

In reality? None. Marc hasn't even read Dianetics. They barely even get the training that their "hat" requires them to have. At the same time, there are other people out there who are trained, but instead are digging ditches on the RPF.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but Dianetics isn't really part of the Scientology curriculum. When on course they do KSW and TR's and stuff like that. I think Dianetics and the basics are just busy work for public, and not reading them is more common than many people think.

Would like confirmation on that ^ from an ex

The scilon defense lawyers will probably claim that these $.38/hr employees get food and lodging as part of their remuneration.

BTW, isn't 12:30-5:00 4.5 hours instead of 3.5? Making your daily total 15.5?

I seem to recall representatives of scientology making this claim.
If true, the food and lodging would qualify as non-cash compensation and be subject to taxes, both Federal (including Social Security) and State.
BFG et al have the official records of the amount contributed to the SSA.
I don't believe it includes the value of food and lodging at prevailing rates.
Failure of an organization to declare and withold is not looked upon kindly by government officials.
    ...just sayin'.

Yes, this claim has been made, and Barry Van Sickle already commented on this in the lawsuit:

They're toast. Because of this, I fear a settlement (their least worst option) without definite corrections of the wrongdoings.

Holy crap masters Batman! I goofed the floof on the math on that one. Oops! I will have to add another 5475 hours on the tally. Thanks!

That deserves a special thanks pic posting!

CoS doesn't report that the employee worked 110 hours/week for those measly few bucks, only that the employee "earned" those measly bucks.

That article was take on the words of Muriel Dufresne, and Cathrine Fraser who I believe claim that there are nearly 8,000 churches and missions and 8 million Million Scientologists.

CoS claims its Sea Org workers get room, board, and classes, but not "as compensation."
    Quote:
    5. FURNISHING OF NECESSARIES. Church staff members serve pursuant to their religious commitment and conviction rather than for monetary gain or other traditional commerical or financial motives or incentives. Nevertheless, the Church will, pursuant to this covenant, furnigh certain necessaries, including a weekly nominal "pocket money" allowance, and, for certain staff positions, room and board. The furnishing of these necessary items is not intended to be and is not compensation for services performed by the applicant, but rather it provides an opportunity for the Church to establish an appropriate environment within which religious and spiritual awareness may receive the greatest prospect for enhancement and in which such matters constitute the sole reward for services. The amount of weekly allowance may vary depending upon economic conditions generally prevailing within the Church.

    FROM http://www.researchthetruth.com/cosdocs-staff.pdf

This is a highly DIRTY and revealing paragraph. The reason the room, board, and classes are not considered compensation is that CoS would have to declare them as income, and would have to pay its share of Social Security taxes on these items, which are considered "in-kind" in tax lingo. Furthermore, once these items showed up on the worker's paycheck the worker would have to pay income tax and the worker's share of Social Security on the in-kind items. With pitiful pocket money, the worker would not be able to pay the taxes!

Furthermore, if CoS considered the room, board and training as that week's income, that means that the worker EARNED them. Once the worker quit or was fired, there would be NO freeloader debt, since everything was already earned. Presently of course, the freeloader debt is unenforceable and illegal, but the worker doesn't know that. CoS scares the worker with freeloader debt threats, as a tool to keep the worker from quitting, so it is a doubly dirty trick on CoS's part.

I didn't claim the numbers were legit. It's a collection of Scn spokesperson re. number of staff.

Cool enough but was just saying unless we have some reasonable numbers to go on, doing the math is kinda pointless. It could be that the numbers could be off as much as 75% at Gold base, and I can only assume that the idea of borrowing people to make up the difference from other Scn locations didn't factor in the other sources of income that the other locations generate.
