How is it bad that people have better access to information, and more options than before?

Google is not preventing anyone from using the books, but making them more accessible.

In this specific case, fair use seems reasonable.

But if information is free, who will produce it ?

I understand both your point and Ann;s////
However I see it like Net Neutrality
The lines are owned and leased, but if you want your data to get through without a problem, you have to pay a premium

If Google gets all the material, which is their stated goal
They control who sees it and at what price.....
They are not in the business to be a charity

If they take a copyrighted work, copy it, and then make money off that work via their distribution, which they are,
it seems a little less clear.

I don't think Google will be able to sell copyrighted works without the author's permission and without paying the author a royalty.
It's Amazon that should be worried, not the copyright holders.

They won't sell it directly....they make money off hosting it w/ ads, which I think is a slippery slope at best

That being said the copyright laws, patent laws etc are problematic at best

The whole things is screwed up
  7. Fuck everything Google.Especially when it is a known NSA tool. I never use it.
