On the other hand there's more to nutrition than just a full stomach.

Re: the first bit about tending to be veggie, maybe they should leave their personal shit at home imo and stop blending causes.
  2. Anonymous Member

They're volunteers, how you gonna force them? They're NYPA.... (&c &c)

Anyway, better veggie food than no food.
  3. Anon PTS Member

If you have to feed a large group with little money, rice and beans is nutritious and filling. And cheap.
    Just ask the Sea Org.

You don't know the myriad other reasons behind this situation. In Cali, rich fags with a view of the lake bawwed because the county installed a floating outhouse, tried to get it removed so they wouldn't have to look at it with their exalted eyes.

It may well be part of "out of sight out of mind." You just don't know, because they give a "reasonable excuse."

Did I say I was going to force them? I just won't help them.

Or maybe it's not part of a global conspiracy against the poor and has something to do with the fact that this group did not get permits to do this.

It's my oppinion this is about the rich being offended, though that wasn't the point of my post. Several previous posts had confused the two types of permits, and it seems to me that the rational of the arrests change depending on which type of permit they were in violation of.

Being veggie doesn't mean you're malnourished. They're not blending causes. Are you saying that they shouldn't volunteer if they don't want to handle meat?

like you would have if the food wasn't veggie. bet you're not even in Orlando.

I am no veggiefaggot nor would a single fuck be given if PETA DIAFed tonight...

...However, if you are starving and you haven't eaten in a few days: Any food, vegetarian or not, is better than no food whatsoever.

    As for my thoughts:

It seems a bit harsh that these helpers are getting /v/aned over trying to help. I kind of see why they are doing it though: They are first trying to keep some control over a large group. If you have 25+ starving people in one spot, odds are good that bad things can happen. This can range from food born illness risks all the way up to people fighting over scraps. Granted, those are worst case scenarios and maybe unlikely to happen, but the risk is still there and was enough of a risk though for the local government to do these actions.

The truth is: If people don't agree with this, then they need to change or amend the laws by voting rather than having a bunch of script kiddies in their mom's basement speak for them. Doing retarded things like DDoSing and Cyber Attacking accomplishes far less than voting the faggots out of office or voting for changes in that law.

I drive into Orlando for a nice dinner, fail harder.
No but there are certain vitamin supplements they recommend to vegetarians and somehow I don't think Food Not Bombs is giving those to the homeless too.
    Try actually reading. Again:
    Please pay better attention, dear.

Meh. As some anon poster above said. Some food is better than none.

Oh the irony. That same question again:
I'm asking if your opinion is that they shouldn't volunteer at all if they're not giving the starving homeless meat? Not what you would or wouldn't do about the situation.

Do pay better attention if you're going to try to condescend, dear.

Oh, and I'm also not one of those PETA, vegan/veggie oddballs. Like a good burger just as much as the next man.

tl;dr: this wasn't really about food safety, it was about a technicality involving limits on the number of permits issuable.

Very true. Most of the discussion here has pertained to the rational behind the rule.

Still, this group did do it legally twice. Why they are unable to purchase more permits, or more importantly anybody else for that matter, is kind of the fatal flaw of this law. However, my issue is not the group or what they feed the homeless or the law in general. My issue is some Down Syndrome retard script kiddy thinks they are doing justice at the business end of a computer. The sad truth is that it is not helping and it is more of an annoyance or inconvenience at best, At worse, it is violating peoples' privacy and doing damage to businesses which will get this retard a trip to Rape Me Hard In My Ass prison.

I don't agree with Orlando Food Not Bombs ideas or philosophy. That is my right. However, I cannot deny nor criticize what they are doing to help people. They are not the Vulture Ministry: They are feeding people. Likewise, I cannot criticize the government there because I I don't live there and I can see their point of view too. The only point that should be made is that the best way for these people to fix this problem is to fix the law in the form of voting or petitioning for a change in that law. Using some retarded ass clown that lives in their mom's basement solves nothing and can cause more harm than good.

I'm sure they were following health codes, they are very well established and with a good reputation. If you had clicked on the hotlink of Orlando Food not Bombs, you'd see:

Our group shares food because people need it and as a means of calling attention to our society's failure to provide food and housing to each of its members. We do this in public spaces, such as parks, because we believe that space should be reclaimed for the use of everyone, not just the privileged. We are an activist collective and humanitarian group that opposes the poverty, inequality, violence, war and militarism, prejudice and oppression, and environmental destruction that make groups such as ours necessary. We believe in trying to solve problems such as hunger through direct action as much as possible, and without seeking any permission or assistance from government. We do not use any tax money or grants to fund our activities, although we gladly accept voluntary contributions.

    http://orlandofoodnotbombs.org/#about

... and other cool stuff at their site. I'm sure they are not new at this, and practice proper food handling methods, but their mission is, by my standards, pretty awesome.

EDIT: Agree about the dumpsters. If there is no shelter for the night, they will also sleep in them.

I really don't care what they do, I just think it's foolish to potentially alienate allies because you insist on being a vegetarian organization. Not a judgement on right vs wrong, a judgement on effective vs detrimental.

Ahem. Two permits per park per year is easy? It's an unconscionable attempt to keep the well-off from seeing the poverty that's been created by shipping jobs overseas while they and their portfolios prosper.

I was in Orlando for a conference once some years ago. At the time I wasn't all that impresssed and I thought I'd never go back.

    Now I know it.

Boycott Orlando. Or better yet, boycott Disney (just because it's near Orlando and many people stay in Orlando hotels to go see the rodent) and see how quickly the ordinance changes... (How's that song go? "M i c k e y L o u s e. Mickey Mouse, he's a louse...")

Herro overlooked the fact that a group can only get 2 permits per year. Otherwise, his point was valid.

It boils down to this: The only way to fix this law is to have the people there make the change. Doing Script Shitty things won't make this better and will only get some basement dweller in prison.

The fact that only two permits are issued per year tells me a little something more...

so go hand out some meat. what's stopping you?
  28. anonymous612 Member

The lack of care about homeless people, mostly.
  29. Cudgel Member

You mean the Lake Buena Vista that's a whole 23.8 miles drive from Orlando? I have friends who take their little bast...darlings to Disney World once a year. They stay in a hotel in Orlando.

    'nuff said.
  30. Smurf Member

They stay in Orlando by choice. There are a shitload of (expensive hotels) on Disney property in Lake Buena Vista and cheaper ones in nearby Kissimmee. Many chose to stay in Orlando because of it's proximity to the other tourist traps like Universal Studios, Sea World, etc. I used to work at Walt Disney World.
  31. anonymous612 Member

^That. I don't stay in a hotel at all when I visit Disney, that doesn't make Clearwater and Disney close to each other. That being said, I was really just correcting the faulty logic of boycotting Disney to get back at Orlando, when there's no real relation between the two.

Guess it depends how fast you drive, but yeah, 76 miles is not "close".
  33. lulzgasm Member

Meh. You can zip across those 76 miles in 8.9 seconds, Smurf. You're that fast.
  34. Smurf Member

Um sure. I take it you've never driven on Interstate 4. The term "highway hostages" was coined to describe people stuck in long commutes to and from Orlando on I-4.

"On Monday, Dyer offered to let the group use the plaza in front of City Hall without a permit, as long as the group halts the feedings at the park. It's a great spot for political demonstrations, Stephens said in an interview Tuesday. But with no restrooms or running water, it's no good for eating. Both sides continue to accuse the other of being unwilling to negotiate. But neither side is willing to give ground on the only real issue in dispute: the use of Lake Eola Park."
