It used to be that many cases of child sexual assault were dropped because the victims often don't come forward until they are adults. The statute of limitations has been changed in many places to allow investigations/ convictions to go forward. The investigations into the friends of Jimmy Saville and Ciryl Smith are occurring now and several perpetrators are investigated ( some not charged because they are infirm) because of the change in the law. He had only one police interview and because he had Alzheimers they didn't proceed.
