Moshav Zofar The fun corner For the past few months I have been delivering The Way to Happiness workshops in a big school in the far north. The activity is for a few levels and classes and there are a fair number of students every week who receive my lessons on The Way to Happiness®. When I first came to the school, I noticed the deputy principal walking through the corridors with a black hose in his hand - like a whip. When I asked another teacher what it was all about, he explained that it was an old custom and today it is used only as a deterrent. This means, that it is no longer used to beat and whip the kids…scarrrrrry. Every time I saw the deputy with the whip, I scowled at him and also spoke with one of the senior teachers in the school about it. I want to mention that the school literally adopted The Way to Happiness project. The students, teachers and even the school principal always welcomed me; the application by the students is very obvious and the deputy with the whip became an exceptional scene in the school arena. At some point, I suddenly realized something had changed. A few weeks ago, towards the end of school year, I noticed for the first time that the deputy principal walked about with his hands empty! No whip or hose, only a cigarette from time to time. At first I thought it was an exception but over the next couple of visits, I saw him with empty hands – no whip! I understood that was it! The subject was handled. My mission was achieved and The Way to Happiness project had taken over the school. There are values, there is hope, there is happiness and there is no whip! Love, Shelly Dahari From the diary of a Happiness lecturer Even in the noisy pub saturated with alcohol and lewdness, you can still get some happiness, get direction for life, to be happy and enjoy. I delivered a workshop to a group of professional make-up women of MAC Company from a store in Ramat Aviv. The workshop was delivered in a private room at the pub. There was a lot of noise each time the waiter opened the door and the music penetrated our space, but despite the noise and darkness, the message got through. One of the girls, who apparently wasn’t listening, said at the end of the workshop, that her friend behaves exactly as in the booklet. She got very excited about the whole thing. It seemed as if this gave her an indication that he acts in the right way and she was happy. Love Kobi A booklet instead of a drink Happiness is not anybody’s monopoly. It has to do with all of us. It is our duty to help others, to share this treasure and to do all we can so that all of us, as a society, experience happiness. When you share sorrow – it reduces by half. When you share joy, it doubles. Here is a story – on Thursday night, during a family’s tour to Havarim wadi in the area of Ramon Observatory, my 11 year old daughter and I joined a spontaneous group of tourists of different ages from all over the country, who joined together for a night tour of the desert. Havarim wadi at night A late night walk in the wadi accompanied by a few frightened animal voices and the flapping wings of a surprised partridge. We walked along narrow paths through tangled desert plants, overawed by the wild beauty of nature and our magnificent land. After a rich Bedouin meal and some juicy desert stories by the light of the fire, bathed in the aroma of baked potatoes, I started to talk about the essence of happiness. I asked them what happiness was. I spoke about goals, purposes in life, morals and values. The scene was a bit surreal - delivering a workshop on The Way to Happiness with white rocks shining under the full moon. We talked about the need to love children and help them, respecting parents and setting a good example. Some familial problems came up which got resolved within this group, a spontaneous bunch of tourists who just moments before hadn’t even known each other. We took up some questions raised by concerned parents, some dialogue developed between parents and their kids and problems which were of interest to every family were discussed. “We are lucky we joined this journey”, said one of the mothers. “We’ve never talked about this at home”, said another father. It was an amazing experience. I took their addresses and they are all waiting to receive The Way to Happiness booklets in the mail. This spontaneous workshop created an intimate feeling among all those who sat around the fire. It was very warm and worthwhile but you don’t need to go all the way to the desert for it. I have been a volunteer lecturer for The Way to Happiness activities in Israel for about a year. Since I became a part of the Association, my life has been transformed. I have fun helping other people and I feel that it is the most valuable thing I’m doing in my life right now! After each workshop, I feel so happy because I know I have made more people feel better; I have delivered knowledge to them which will help them in their lives. Beside that, it’s so rewarding to volunteer! Until yesterday, I hadn’t really realized how true it is that when you contribute to others, good things flow back to you. Personally, I always had a dream to become an independent business woman but I never believed that I could fulfill that dream. Yesterday the dream came true!!! For the first time, I organized an evening for unmarried women (which is the product of my new business, “uptone unmarried women party”). The group of girls invited me and paid me to come. I arrived and entered the place with certainty; I had great control throughout the whole evening and it was simply amazing! In the past, I used to have stage fright. When I had to give a speech in front of many people, my voice used to shiver and I was simply scared. I know that if I had not been a volunteer, delivering The Way to Happiness® workshops for the past year, I wouldn’t have the ability I have today. I’m glad to be part of an amazing group with infinite abilities. During this year there were people who said; “You are such a stooge. How come you are volunteering without pay? How come you drive so far?” Even family members and close friends failed to understand how I could contribute my time without receiving anything back. Today I visited my parents and told them that I had started my new business because of The Way to Happiness. I also have a neighbor like this who owns no less than 3 cars - we call him “Subaroid”. They are all Subaru and he changes them every 3 years (1 each year!) The difference is that all the neighbors in our building have 2 parking spots, and the rest is obvious! He also shines, polishes and pets each one daily, including Sabbaths, holidays etc! I didn’t mention that he also was a vehicle sergeant in the military transportation unit! To be more serious and practical, the attitude is very familiar but the application is hard.
