Plenty of better actors (and human beings) than John Travolta have lost their children. It's sad, but it happens. What makes this thread still relevant is John Travolta's own harping on the issue whenever his cult takes a PR hit. I'm very sorry he lost his son, but he very likely lost his son as a result of his own actions. That MUST be a special type of hell for him if he has any humanity whatsoever, and that further makes this thread relevant until the day the cult ends.

It's to give the those who believe in magickal thinking some plausible deniability when their superstitious beliefs don't pan out.

Scientology is not alone in this "we have the ability to rationalize why our awesome truths don't work" mechanisms. Hell chanology is similar, if you think back to the whole "GO TO THE FBI!!!!! ZOMG GO GO GO" and people saying there was "stuff going on in the background just wait!" and nothing ever came of it, people will think it was due to the FBI not caring when in reality it was probably that the two crackpots that actually sent some links to law enforcement were laughed at.
