I believe this issue has been discussed previously on wwp but I can't find it. I think it was the library of David Gaiman which had been donated to Oxford after his death. Allegedly someone(s) didn't think too much of the donation and had a little fun with it..

How do we know some lawyer for Scientology in Oxford didn't start the fire?

It would have just been a lot of old Hubbard text, which according to Tommy Davis had been badly infected by squirrely SP type-setters anyway. This is yet another perfect opportunity to crush reg the local publics for vast sums of money so that cheaply produced and DM approved new versions which otherwise couldn't be given away can be .... um, given away.

Actually it was quite a different story than the usual library scam.

Here's more of the story.

Only a scilon would burn a book while it was still in the library..... everyone else would use the barrel out back like usual :p

I find the notion of "spray on cheese" to be very disturbing.

Even the Firesign Theatre only had antique cheese logs!

If we could set our own user titles like before, mine would now be "spray on cheese".

I have been to Philly several times and I can say, quite proudly, I have never eaten one of those disgusting things. It is an abomination to steak and to cheese.

Lordy, I really didn't even think it was 'THE' typre Philly cheese bun thing, always made my own with cream cheese and cheddar, and a decent steak.
My delusional steak/cheese bubble is so busted (glad I don't sit on the busted part too), am so sad nao :(

It's completely shit that Oxford university accepted the books in the first place. Scientology is a fundamentalist group that radicalises people.
31. Ogsonofgroo Member

If you mean sort of makes them a bit stupider then I am inclined to agree.

FWIW, most libraries ditch 99.9% of scilon crap, just like most junk books. The whole 'books for libraries' scam is stale, and this story, hm, where are some story links? Is this recent? dunno, too lazy.
That there was even an archive makes me suspect lurking stupidity in this story.
Edit> I do recognize however the need for halls of academia to keeps information intact, research materials etc., so am thinking maybe it was the only way to get rid of the old stuff, as some folks already mentioned up there^^

Now, about that grilled cheese......... grilled_cheese.jpg

Y'all haven't lived though, till you've tried a grilled Spam-wich, works with corned beef too, or any tinned mystery meats as far as I'm concerned. Hm, maybe seafood not so much tho.
