    Leah Remini

From the age of nine, actor Leah Remini grew up as a devout Scientologist. (You know, the controversial religion beloved by celebrities like Tom Cruise, John Travolta, and their ilk.) But in July 2013, the once staunch follower made a shocking revelation: She was leaving the church behind, and she wasn’t going quietly. She became a whistle-blower for the abuse she claims to have witnessed within the organization and used her platform to share others’ stories too. The former King of Queens star released the New York Times best-selling memoir Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology in 2015. Then she debuted an eight-episode series for A&E called Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, where she spoke with other ex-Scientologists. While the church issued a statement calling Remini "a spoiled entitled diva" for her work—to the public this was the decade Remini became a crusader for speaking truth to power. —S.L.
