a community that largely supports the action. You obviously don't know Oakland if you think any differently.

    They spelled "FERAL CHILDREN" wrong.

Those kids should be getting an education. ....oh right, california schools, carry on.
  4. Anonymous Member

I love me some feral children. Srs.

well, you don't know it well then. Since I DO live here, and so do all of my family and friends. And it WE who DO live here talking about it over pints after a long days of drum circles and tear gas prolly have a better idea than you. The pay-off to the members of the cummunity in the 99% is bigger than the $ cost to the tax payer for a little police over time and a porta potty or two. Just sayin

So you are the one making Anonymous look bad...
  11. Robocat Member

Same here, live, friends, family, it's where I raid - not that you've ever done that, because since 2008 I've never seen you raid the Bay Area. That aside, I am ashamed of this shit. 4 tankers held, cops over time, businesses closed, and I'm sure trash and broken windows to fix. Yay, enjoy your corporate pint of beer.
  12. Anonymous Member

I'm an SF native. I bet you're both from Marin.

I'll bet slobeck is since he doesn't raid. What's your take on this Oakland thing?
  14. Anonymous Member

I think it's a very messy situation, but I'm actually really heartened that for the most part people have been relatively chill (emphasis on relatively and so far). Sometimes it feels like Oakland has become an unfixable basket case; I can understand why OWS would have appeal there. The black clad anarchists are probably a bunch of asshole white kids from Concord (just kidding, but I doubt they're from the Town), and yeah, there are some stupid hippy wannabes burning American flags, but I see a majority of ordinary people--and nothing to be ashamed of.
  15. Robocat Member

I mostly agree. My guess is that the "anarchists" are local, unless they had some bros in Vallejo come up to join them, but that part seems pretty Oakland to me. I saw a lot (surprisingly a lot) of regular folks too. It was less violent than I expected but still, I saw the whole as a day that would have been better if it didn't happen. Loss with no progress.
  16. Anonymous Member

Fair enough, but what kind of progress would you like to have seen?
  17. Robocat Member

No loss would be better than loss. So, if it hadn't happened that would be progress. Seriously, was the question what kind of progress is an occupy mob capable of?
  18. Anonymous Member

If your point of view is simply that OWS is a mob and anything it does is bad, then I guess there's not really a question for me to ask.

Leaving aside what I think about OWS: as a Bay Area person I'm glad to see Oakland on the map as something other than the murder capital of California.
  19. Robocat Member

Yeah, anything is better than the murder capitol. Maybe this will help repair its image?

Also, I didn't say that anything an occupy mob does is bad. But, now that you say it ... what has been achieved for the cost? Improved image of the city?
  20. Anonymous Member

Not in a Chamber of Commerce kind of way that's for sure. I'm actually not trying to sell you on this, but maybe something vague and corny and ephemeral... like "a sense of empowerment" or, just generally, international visibility associated with something vital. Probably nothing quantifiable in dollar terms, but also nothing that Oakland has been associated with in my memory.

In any case, let the postgame begin:

So, it's a "feel good" thing? Thanks, I'll check out the trib.

Asshole was lucky there were cops around, he could have been torn to pieces if he'd killed a child.

Yeah that's right, driver of Silver Mercedes E-class CA license plate AJHJR. Enjoy your moment of fame.

I think it's more of a "feel seen" or "feel heard" thing.

Can't find the link now, but I read somewhere that initially he'd had his girlfriend jump into the driver's seat, and the crowd took them out of the car and put him back in the driver's seat...

There was massive misinfo on this incident all over the internet last night so I'd take that with a grain of salt, but there is raw footage of the incident itself here: http://www.ktvu.com/videos/news/ktvu-top-videos/lHw/ (you have to scroll thru the most popular vids for it)

I may be wrong, but I bet that running people down with your car is illedgal regardles of wheter you're being "provoked". In a fight between a 175lb human and 3/4 ton vehicle. The vehicle wins every time. It's not really a fair fight.

For future reference, running people over is illegal in the US. Running over retarded people is frowned upon as well.

What about a 260lb man versus 3/4 ton rig?
  34. Anonymous Member

Sure, running him over is inexcusable. But I am unsurprised at the fact that doing that to a guy's car while he's driving down a main street led him to require a hospital visit.

Oakland is taking on the load of making every other mayor with an Occupy protest site in their city reconsider how far they are willing to push these confrontations and whether they trust their PD to act responsibly during them, for which I can only say "fuck yes, thank you!"

I only lived in the Fruitvale for 4 years, but suck it hard, you sanctimonious graffiti haters. Leave Oakland its edge, which it has ALWAYS had. I used to walk past Sonny Barger's Hells Angels club or the old offices Malcolm X's widow set up in the avenues or hear about Huey's widow working with addicts at Kaiser and think about how radicals love Oaktown, Jack London being an earlier example, along with so many others. Fuckers are going to whine about spray paint and spilt apples when the Eurozone is bailing out the banks again (like MF Global) and 1/3 of Europe is fighting the IMF subverting their sovereignty & enshrining the one world economy? Perspective much? This is not about one city, one battle, one person or one cause -- this is motherfucking Sparta!

Take your ignorant romantic bullshit and your Raider-stealing Dodger-loving ass back to LA, son, we don't like lotus-eaters up North. Next order of business: cut the state in half and go to war against the South.
