London 18 April postgame Confusing controversy at the "end" of today's london protest - at coming up to 4pm the police told us that we needed to pack up and move on by 4pm. Normally we raid until 5pm which suits us fine. This "change" to a 4pm end was a total surprise to all of us. After a minor earlier moment where we were told we couldn't blast music through megaphones, because we lacked a permit for amplified music. No problems with protest-voice though (chanting, etc.), so we moved to using them for that. The static PA units weren't approached about this - maybe they minded because megaphones are really directional? Then at 3.30pm, a WPC (female police officer) approached us and told us that "we had a permit until 4pm" and would need to start winding down. (quote is vague-memory only). This is deeply unusual, because we've never obtained, needed or been asked for a permit for our protests before - and as far as we're aware, a "permit for a static protest" simply does not exist. (Permits are needed here for marching, and also for amplified music) I spoke to the senior officer in charge of us and he's laid blame at Jim Moore (roughly, "he was told by his superiors that we had to pack up and move on by 4pm"). He didn't mention permits or anything of the sort - he was super-vague and wishy washy about the whole thing and it's left us fairly confused. (I have audio of that brief chat with officer on scene but it needs editing to clean it up a bit and I can't do that at short notice in the pub on this laptop.) Further enquiries will be made. General photos and stuff will also follow.
Re: London 18 April postgame Did you see Agnieszka Deutschman (Polish chick with curly hair) on the pavement at TCR? If so, I hope no-one was insensitive enough to talk about her PTS handling tech. (I think her job is body router - she's almost always there)
Re: London 18 April postgame There's a section in the Public Order Act which covers time/duration of a protest, can't remember which one offhand but I'm pretty sure it's one of the ones the Police used to try and misuse. IIRC it gives them only three powers, specifically the power to limit: time/duration, location, and size, and nothing else (but they used to claim other stuff under it). But London Police are in a bit of a mad state recently, so they're probably a bit less amiable than normal. It does sound like they were talking bollocks though. inb4 the usual five pages of idle chat before proper post game reports start getting posted.
Re: London 18 April postgame trufax. Ian Tomlinson What about after-dark shenagans? It's isn't dark, yet.
Re: London 18 April postgame That'll be after the post-game pub raid, I'm sure they're all having fun at the Kebab & Calculator round the corner until it gets dark enough to make everything effective.
Re: London 18 April postgame Yeah, and now it transpires the cause of death was NOT a heart attack but INTERNAL BLEEDING (caused by baton) http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8004222.stm Also, the doctor who delivered the 'heart attack' verdict has been in trouble before for producing bogus post-mortem results which clear the Police of any blame, when later examination showed different results http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7982855.stm tl;dr- if that video footage hadn't been brought forward, Ian Tomlinson's death would have been swept under the rug
Re: London 18 April postgame Nope - by the time I got to TCR they were 100% hiding inside. Heretic and myself stopped in for the miniest of miniraids on our way from the pub back to the tube. One person was outside but scarpered back inside as soon as they noticed us approach. By that point (4.45-ish?) the police had gone, although the crowd barriers were still there awaiting collection. I don't know what's going on with the after-dark stuff because I won't be there (now on the train on my way home). There was no specific mention of the Public Order Act by the police (not of any actual specific law, in fact), so I have no idea if that's part of their rationale or not. We could consider how to creatively use the fact that they can't impose Conditions so bad that they amount to an effective ban. (Incidentally, London has already got standing protest-conditions imposed, but only relating to locations - "not right outside their shop", effectively.)
Re: London 18 April postgame "We don't need legislation, sir, we're the London Police. Our only law is the law of the baton. Now move along."
Re: London 18 April postgame Anti-Scientology freaks screaming "it's a trap" at people going into the Scientology store. Idiots
Re: London 18 April postgame Interesting... that guy has a blog via his website (http://www.buzzgraphics.co.uk/) It has an interesting cartoon but it also has a curious header
Re: London 18 April postgame so, he is anti-Scientology, but thinks you guys are faggots for spending your own time protesting them?
Re: London 18 April postgame Rectangular building materials have been expelled from The Shadow's rectum
Re: London 18 April postgame Nah they went to get drunk at hyde park then go shouting and punching the lions at Trafalgar square
Re: London 18 April postgame Hey I guess there was. Was it all a bunch of people in masks again? Also, the idea of trolling the Cult with glowsticks when it gets dark is fail if gets dark at 9: that's a fair wait from 4. Should have thought of this during winter guys.
Re: London 18 April postgame Yeah, I think so. Retarded, imo. Some guy going around with retarded hair and thinking he knows how to use a camera too. Yeah, idea? more like iFail!!11 HAHAHA!
Re: London 18 April postgame Hi All, Just wanted to thank all the London anons for your generosity and sharing your interesting opinions today. It was my first protest since becoming interested in Anonymous a few months ago. Sorry to hear you had to cut the event short, but it was a great day and I look forward to protesting with you again next month. All the best!
Re: London 18 April postgame Selecting pictures atm... Heretic didn't really say he'd kill me if I put up a photo of his lovely face, did he? Nahh.
Re: London 18 April postgame The WPC is talking out of her arse, you do not need a permit. the police can impose a restriction on where you can protest and how long you protest however.
Re: London 18 April postgame I hope to god you're talking about your gut, bearing in mind the other meaning of the term 'chubby'
Re: London 18 April postgame I lol'd at the man who seemed to be offended when we was dancing to 'Tunak Tunak Tun' ("DO YOU NOT KNOW THE MEANING OF THE LYRICS?!?") Pics to follow sometime when I can be arsed.
Re: London 18 April postgame Here's the video of asking Nice Mr Senior Police Officer what was going on: (May be broken due to processing - if so, give it a few minutes)
Re: London 18 April postgame Very surprised to see Anons still filming police encounters, given the new laws about filming police. I suppose I'll have to start doing it....
Re: London 18 April postgame If they try shit with no reason it could 'aid terrorist activities' then you just tell them to STFU and walk off. I was told I couldn't take pictures in Waterloo station, so I took a picture of the office (in the station) who told me so, took a few more of the station, and left. He couldn't do shit, so yeah Also, photos I'd already done too contrasty will be a bit fail, cos I'm taking an easy way out. As in, 1 click instead of 2. But I'm leaving the first one super-contrasty so I can be like wow that actually looks really shit why have I been doing that. And like 2 others cos they look stupid otherwise.
Re: London 18 April postgame Ordinarily I'd be dreading this Shadow sign, and I'm sure it's terribly embarrassing, but I scored a pretty decent bargain at the toy collector's fair today so I'm in a pretty good mood =)
Re: London 18 April postgame HNNNGGGHH Toy Collectors lol You don't need to buy toys to lure kids in, silly. My white van of sweets is a proof of this. Erm, it's not exactly embarrassing. Just amusing.
Re: London 18 April postgame Yes, I collect tv/movie related toys of all sorts, they liven up my DVD-filled shelves, Not every thing there is en masse, just the occasional piece that piques my interest, particularly vintage stuff Deal with it ...I mean, at least I'm not spending my cash drinking, smoking, or doing drugs, at least toys can't kill me (unless I end up with one of those rocket-firing Galactica Vipers from the '70s)
