Been away a few days for work so I've been catching up on things including this thread.

It's been said several times already, but it needs repeating: SO MUCH WIN.

Nice to see the Cal-Mag connection getting some more attention also and on the Daily Beast!

I missed her premiere...did anyone see it? Just how bad do ratings for a cable reality show need to be for A&E to pull the plug?

    FreakE...that shoop is win.

I watched some of it, the LastAnon. I debated with myself about it. It was 2 30-minute segments (counting ad breaks) and our suspicion that it is intended to be an infomercial appears to be borne out. Before I fell asleep* from boredom (a few minutes into the second half), which was shaping up to be a "my new assistant is incompetent and lazy" episode, Kirstie mentioned her diet company / plan about 3-4 times.

(I did like the lemurs. But lemurs are awesome.)

Kirstie is simply not interesting enough, fat or thin, to support an entire series about herself (and her diet company). Did I mention that she mentioned her diet company?

Since she is currently trying to deny the Scientology link to her diet company, Scientology was NOT mentioned that I recall. Someone--anyone who was less bored than I--might be able to confirm or deny that.

    * I wasn't tired. The next show's intro music, with its power chords, woke me up instantly. (I haven't dozed off like that since having to endure a bullshit four-hour-long post-lunch meeting at one of my prior jobs about "Quality" which was a bunch of flapdoodle and repetition, and had no practical application to anything 3/4 of the audience even DID for the company. But I'm sure we all know how to apply "The Thinker" pose in meetings like that when we have to.)

My partner had a very visceral reaction to the motto. He couldn't decide which was worse to contemplate: LICKING Kirstie or being LICKED BY Kirsty.

Either way, the slogan is as vulgar as she seems to be.

In Left-wing Panel on ABC, Former Cheers Star Kirstie Alley Speaks Up as Voice of the Right

A mostly left-wing panel on Friday's Good Morning America forced former Cheers star Kirstie Alley into the role of speaking for the right. Liberal journalist George Stephanopoulos moderated a health care discussion with Democratic operative Donna Brazile and People magazine editor Larry Hackett. Alley surprised the group by opposing Barack Obama's plan for government-run health care.

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Are you rooting for this to pass?

    KIRSTIE ALLEY: No.

    STEPHANOPOULOS [Surprised]: No? Why not?

ALLEY: No. Because, we don't have one trillion dollars! We can pretend like we do. But, we're in this huge debt and we don't have a trillion dollars. You know- You try to come up with solutions, just the mom sitting at home, thinking about it. You know, I think that I would rather have a tax credit for being well and sort of rewarded for being well. Because I don't see these doctors visits and all this the medical as the solution to health anyway.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Actually, some of that, I think there are credits there to encourage wellness inside the bill. But it's just a small piece of it.

ALLEY: Let's have it be a big piece. We don't have $1 trillion. So, why are we pretending like we do?

Why we ask celebs their opinion on politics, ever, is a mystery to me.

They are welcome to share their opinions if they must, of course, but being asked to function as some sort of informed political commentator or expert pundit? FAIL. DNW.

OTVII Kirstie "Foul-Mouth" Alley is a fine example of the lofty heights a homo-novus can attain through "spiritual" counselling in convicted fraud L. Ron Hubbard's bizarre mindfuck of Scientology after many years of "auditing" and hundreds of thousands of dollars into cult's greedy pockets.

Many years ago an aquaintance once tried to get me into a start up 'new-age' vitamin scam. Total pyramid scheme from the top down, the 'hook' was having your and your family's potential health and well-being represented as depending on these particular vitamins. Of course, all other similar brands, especially commonly available ones were beneath consideration. Not pure enough, of course.

Even worse were the stars in the eyes of the foot soldiers of this particular huckster. I cannot pry the brand or fellow's name from memory, but I remember the creepy 40-minute 'introduction/indoctrination' by the 'founder' and the reaction of some of the participants afterwards. I don't know how it all turned out, as I didn't really hang around with those people too long after they tried to sell me on that shit.

Amway, Hubbard, it's all just selling soap. It doesn't surprise me that Kirsty finds it a perfectly legitimate manner in which to earn a buck.

As a compulisivly compulsive ex sea org, I could not aree with you more. Scientologists, I can say with some certainty, are at least mildly depressive to extreem of severe bipolor. That is obvservation, hope it helps.
