Stupid of the Lord Mayor to give the Premier this kind of opening politically. Baillieu hits him over the head with the scientology stick quite nicely.

Lots of press on this down under huh? Looks like for all their efforts, the $20 (?) million in expenses, plus flying in Miscavige and the big name celebs, all scientology got from their Melbourne grand opening was lots of controversy confirming that affiliating with scientology is politically disastrous.

Good on Baillieu for seeing the shot and taking it.

Funny if their PR lies about attendance gets them into trouble.
I think we should count the heads in their PR pic and get a definitive minimum. It's obviously less than 2000 but could still be over 600.

Reminds me about their lies on numbers which flew right back into their faces during the Sandy Srpings, GA zoning issues.

I was out all day (6am-8pm), and when I get home I find the win has been POURING in!
Simply amazing response here, so glad to see the Mayor getting the shaft from every direction, and so glad to hear Scientology is once again stuck between a rock and a hard place. Between pissing off local residents and breaching permits (OR admitting they only have a few hundred followers) they just can't catch a break can they?

Very well done to Melbanons, local Melbourne residents, the media featuring Brian Seymour, and everyone who has been harpooning!

Can someone let me know early if they know media is going to be airing? I wasn't able to record the TT piece. An alert 12 hours in advance might be needed. (if possible)

    EDIT: ABC PM :
Melbourne Lord Mayor denies Scientology support

    TT Video is epic.
Bryan Seymour + Senator Xenophon. Double swoon for the laydees!

Edited my earlier post with youtube video now included (screen grab quality is a bit naff)

Interesting about them not being able to afford to put the air conditioning on. Been trying to find the source for that but no joy.

That's a big load of win right there. The Lord Mayor done fucked up and can't dig himself out of the scientology hole now.

    Great job Melbanons.

  14. Source is Mrs Pattycake on ESMB - she knew the architect (a scilon called Gary Catt) who told her this years ago while they were both at Flag. Gary was doing the plans for the cult's grandiose renovations on this building and spilled this juicy tit-bit to the then-loyal Mrs P..

Meanwhile, in the Moonee Valley Leader, we have this piece in which Cyrus Brooks lies about scientology membership....

At least he's taking a step in the right direction and going for a more conservative 250,000 for the worldwide membership numbers as opposed to the usual millions. Not the "fastest growing religion on the planet" then?

There is no evidence she is dead. DM would be smarter to keep her alive until she dies of natural causes.

Hmmmm, this sounds like 200 unpaid staff members with 5 year scientology "religious order" staff contracts.
  32. cobaltite Member

This new article is likely to produce moar rage - there are quite a lot of Melbournians who don't like Mr Madden for his choices as the Planning Minister... :D

Sounds like 20 staff with the usual vertical expansion of numbers.
