Mike: Applied Scholastics International Headquarters Becomes a Nation of Islam “Singles Retreat” Named “Camp Kiswah”

Hopefully this'll leak back inside CoS and cause a few cognition-fits.

That place was supposed to be the mecca of Applied Scholastics. Now it's the mecca of NOI singles dating.

I wonder if they've been paying their taxes?

I don't know about their taxes, but one of their building in St. Louis was recently deemed unsafe and they were fined $500 less than a month ago. It's probably why they rented out their camp to the NOI. $500 is a lot of money if you can't even keep your facilities safe for your members. lol

Owner huh? Social Betterment Properties' last 990 in Guidestar was 2007, and they still owned the property then.
It looks like the property is expanding!
  9. If it is tax exempt who is it tax exempt for, NOI or Scientology?
  10. DeathHamster Member

    Probably still Scientology.
Another politician who did a sudden back-flip on a Scientology program. (And got a job with them after his restaurant went under. How special!)

Every time they transfer the property, they risk the tax exemption, so I doubt that they sold it to NOI.

  13. Does it risk the tax exemption for Scientology when the let NOI use it and try to rent it out?

Ah, it sounds like they're made for "Applied Scholastics."

If the Sea Org organized a singles retreat, anyone who signed up for it would be written up for being out 2D afterwards.

I doubt much 2D action happens on these singles retreats. The sleeping is dormitory style, and NOI is pretty strict too: no premarital or recreational sex. (They also have rules against alcohol, but I think Calypso Louie had a partial glass of wine in front of him at a CoS event.)

Interesting they got nailed for $500. Based on the stated fine levels on a "administrative citation" it seems to indicate that they got hit with multiple offenses and/or repeat offenses in order for it to be that high.

Whoops, it wasn't Louie, just his bag men and Alfraudie.

I thought "rights of passage" was either a clever pun or something about an easement.

I noticed that NOI is heavily committed to segregation. Wikipedia tells me that "Members of the white community are not allowed to join the NOI."

How do you get to be a "member of the white community"? It sounds like a clever way to seem less racist than a total rabid racist.

"Oh, it's not because you are 'white', but because you are a member of the 'white community".

I get the feeling there is a money shot to be had in this flap.

/r/ pic of the entrance into the property formerly known as the Applied Scholastics HQ that shows big "Camp Kiswah" sign. IAS donors deserve to see the truth about where their educational program donations have gone.

  32. Tom Cruise could be asked if he thought this would become a NOI facility.
Scientology put out this press release in March:

My impression is that the same property is being used, and labeled, for two purposes. Both as the headquarters of Applied Scholastics International and also as a Camp Kiswah. It appears Applied Scholastics is renting the property out to Camp Kiswah for NOI events and whatever else acceptable that the NOI can book. It doesn't appear Applied Scholastics has abandoned the property.

Property as headquarters for Applied Scholastics International:
    Property as Camp Kiswah:
Much the same pictures, though some are artfully cropped. For example, the picture of the outside of main building on the Camp Kiswah site crops out the Applied Scholastics symbol at the top of the building.

I noticed that as well, which got me thinking - surely there is some sort of sign at the road turning into the place. But question is, what does it say? Would be interesting to get a little drive by recon when the next NOI event being held there rolls around.
  36. Anonymous Member

I wouldn't be surprised if they changed signs. Seriously, they have a "Camp Kiswah" event and the road sign says "Camp Kiswah." They have some sort of Applied Scholastics training or event,. and the road sign says "Applied Scholastics International."

My guess -- and it is only a guess -- is that a lot of Applied Scholastics internal signage, etc. is more or less permanent. (Covered up?) But maybe Camp Kiswah internal signage added for Camp Kiswah events? Be interesting to see.
