Judge Declares Mistrial, Orders Do-Over in Travolta Extortion Case

John Travolta's nightmare continues.

Suspecting juror misconduct, a Bahamian judge has declared a mistrial in the case of two people accused of trying to extort $25 million from Travolta's family after a local politician said in a speech played on radio and TV that former senator Pleasant Bridgewater had been acquitted.

Well, who the heck told him that?!

Closing arguments concluded this morning and the case went to the jury shortly afterward.

Travolta's attorney, Michael Ossi, said that his client will fully cooperate with future proceedings and testify again if need be.

In an emotional appearance on the witness stand, Travolta recalled finding his son, Jett, unconscious at their hotel in the Bahamas on the day the 16-year-old died after suffering a seizure.

But the decision favors those who can afford unlimited legal bills. Is this judge competent? unbiased? Does the government want a conviction?

As an aside, it is surprising that The Times, with its typo laden report, didn't research and report both sides of this matter (if they even had to mention that detail at all in a short report about a mistrial):

During the trial, the court heard that during his final, fatal fit, the boy's mother crdled his head as Mr Travolta and a nanny tried desperately t bring him round.

They have the same court source as everyone else.
Sounds like garnering sympathy inb4 tinfoil clearly osa.

I like how they put it in the "Arts & Entertainment" section. It sure has been entertaining.

BooYah! I bet they don't retry the case. Show's over, alas. If not, then maybe the defense will get a clue and start looking here and at the Wikki in order to ask some cogent questions about shit liek the comings and goings of the Travolta air fleet. I've always wondered if maybe they didn't IMPORT the body rather than try to export it under the radar. I mean, after all... look how effectively confused Anna Nicole Smith's shit was.

Perhaps the mods don't recognise osa in lower case. I had to do a lot of rewriting last time I suggested this. I am sure you are right. Tinfoil or not. Who else has any interest in managing this and spreading pious lies? I hope that the retrial leads to more revelations.

As for importing the body, if Jett was left behind when the family moved on 28 December and died in Florida between 1 and 2 January this would explain why the plane set off again on 2 January. But it seems an unnecessary complication in a story that is already way too complicated.

I mean, if the death were a straightforward accident resulting from a seizure why was someone in deep shit and why was there an attempted cover-up, why were there hours of delay, what was there to encourage anyone to blackmail JT or (accepting the defence) to lead JT to try to buy a cover-up. What was the problem?

Looking at other deaths in Scientology the delay was to cover up criminal negligence and to get an alternative story together.

If this followed the same pattern, Jett's death was not due to a seizure but due to negligence or worse and the Travolta story is bunk. But I think we know that.

The alleged misconduct was that a juror got word out that at least one of the suspects would be found not guilty.

As for the wiki page, can we get the hospital on the map as well?

The funny thing is that the judge informed the jury that they had to either free both or condemn both.

While lawyers and journalists awaited the verdict Wednesday night, they were inundated with calls from colleagues saying that someone at a rally for the Progressive Liberal Party had announced that party member Bridgewater was "free at last."

Now perhaps the mainstream media has enough time to ask the proper, incisive questions the next time around.

^Ann O'Nymous wasn't kidding when she said it was important to understand the local situation. Apparently the Bahamian Progressive Liberal Party is emphatically supporting their own.

BTW, did journalist Juan McCartney get a big-time gig out of this? I noticed that he was writing for the Freeport News, but now his stories are for the Associated Press. He's been doing a good job; I hope he got some <3 for this.

For the moonbats here... the mistrial was because somehow the jury leaked....

Supreme Court Justice Anita Allen declared a mistrial in the case after a Bahamian politician prematurely announced at his party's annual convention, which was being covered on live television and radio, that the two accused had been cleared.

Sounds like someone is playing political hardball, and part of the setup was drag in a politician. Bahamas are like the wild west, especially with no more rich tourist dollars lately.

A mistrial was not the result John Travolta expected when it came to the alleged extortion plot surrounding the death of his son Jett.

"He was upset as he wanted closure," says his attorney Mike Ossi, who informed the actor of the Bahamian court decision late Wednesday. "The family wants to privately begin the long and difficult healing process – as well as to properly honor Jett's memory – without the cloud of this litigation over their heads. But he said he is committed to cooperating with authorities so justice can be served."

Those close to Travolta, 55, say that although the trial was difficult for him and his wife, Kelly Preston, it's the loss of Jett that remains immeasurable.

"He's got a heavy heart. There is a hole," the actor's longtime friend and assistant Ronnie Zupancic tells PEOPLE. "They think about Jett every day, they never stop."

Zupancic, who was present in the Bahamas the morning Jett died and later testified for the prosecution, adds, "It doesn't wear off. Jett is still with them. It's like it was yesterday."

Family Bonding
These days he says of Travolta and his family, "They recognize the fragility of life, and they all hold each other a little tighter now."

Travolta cherishes every moment his wife and their 9-year-old daughter Ella Bleu. "They are spending all their time together," says Ossi.

In fact, promoting their new movie, Old Dogs – which stars Travolta, Preston and Ella – has given them something positive to anticipate. "It's Ella's first film and it's a family affair," says Ossi. "She is every excited, but John and Kelly are even more excited. They are very proud."

Travolta is expected to do a limited amount of press for the movie. "He will do as much as he can," says a source. "He's trying to stay busy, and that helps them cope."

As for Ella, the source says, "They are giving her lots of attention. She always has a friend with her. They keep her busy with friends and hobbies, especially horseback riding."

Strength from Belief
Meanwhile, Travolta's faith in Scientology has also given him strength. "John goes to Clearwater, Fla., [where Scientology has a center] four days a week," says a source. "He flies [the 15-minute distance] in his little plane every night, and it's helped him.”

It is in the skies, perhaps, that the actor feels closest to Jett. According to the source, "Flying gives him a sense of comfort. John would take Jett up in his Ultralight all the time. Now, when John flies, it gives him solace. He's in the air, and he can reflect and be peaceful."

Have you read what a defence's lawyer said ? They are running out of cash. Reminds me of some instructions... even if in this case scientology might not be the culprit.
