Music - sweet tunes to maintain morale Mod Notice: Please do not post links to mp3s or rars/zips of mp3s in this thread. A fun and easy way to keep people energized during protests is to bring muzac. A boombox and a burned CD can do wonders. I'm working on compiling a playlist of songs that are: a) inspiring to protesters b) familiar and nonthreatening c) fun to listen/dance to You can post ideas here: http://img.420chan.org/m/res/17976.html, but let us know what you've submitted in this thread EDIT: New thread to replace the 404'd one

Don't have time ATM to upload these, but here's my playlist thus far, minus the ones already posted: The Clash - Overpowered by Funk Dan Bern - Talkin' Alien Abduction Blues Asian Dub Foundation - The Judgment Paul Oakenfold - Ready Steady Go Journey - Wheel in the Sky ("I love Journey! Especially when it's sung poorly by amateurs!") Toots and the Maytals - Funky Kingston (just cause it'll probably be snowing) Bloody Irish Boys - Finnegan's Wake Iggy and the Stooges - Search and Destroy AC/DC - Highway to Hell Beastie Boys - Fight For Your Right Rage Against the Machine - Sleep Now in the Fire Bob Dylan - The Times They Are A-Changin' The Aquabats - Super Rad! Frank Sinatra - I Get A Kick Out of You Dropkick Murphys - Never Alone MC Lars - iGeneration Bad Religion - New Dark Ages Rancid - As Wicked Desmond Dekker - Keep a Cool Head Epoxies - Struggle Like No Other Operation Ivy - Knowledge
Also added "All You Need Is Love" (reading about scicrimes + listening to unfitting music = ironic win) and "Think For Yourself", both by the Beatles. Prokofiev's Dance of the Knights is another good militaristic-sounding Russian orchestra song. I have a good mp3 and will put it on 420chan in a moment What about the Imperial March song from the Star Wars soundtrack?
IN THE NAVY!!! Village People! maybe?? like that yt vid someone was putting together? also danceable and nobody can get mad at the village people?!?
I made my own playlist for the Boston picket, I'll post the songs that I'm bringing. They won't be in this order. 1. Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley 2. Super Rad! - The Aquabats 3. Party Hard - Andrew WK 4. Peace of Mind - Boston 5. Space Oddity - David Bowie 6. Thunderhorse - Dethklok 7. Fury of the Storm - DragonForce 8. I'm Shipping Up to Boston - Dropkick Murphys 9. What Is Love - Haddaway 10. Gay Bar - Electric Six 11. Search and Destroy - Iggy Pop and the Stooges 12. Brothers of Metal - Manowar 13. Hybrid Moments - The Misfits 14. Electric Version - The New Pornographers 15. CHOWKLIT RAAAIN 16. Holiday In Cambodia - Dead Kennedys 17. Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2 - Pink Floyd 18. Wave of Mutilation - The Pixies 19. Go With the Flow - Queens of the Stone Age 20. Breaking the Silence - Queensryche 21. Less Talk More Rokk - Freezepop 22. Black Parade - My Chemical Romance [FOR THE LULZ] 23. Holy Thunderforce - Rhapsody 24. Far Cry - Rush 25. Weballergy - Sonata Arctica 26. SOS - Stratovarius 27. Judas - Yngwie Malmsteen 28. Serpent's Kiss - Symphony X 29. Dawn Over A New World - DragonForce I tried to pick songs that were either all-out fun or songs that were fun and had lyrics or messages relating to our cause. Please give suggestions.
EpicFailGirl: Aside from the metal, I'm pretty sure I love you if your music taste is any indication. Though I'd suggest "Stealing People's Mail" over "Holiday in Cambodia." DrAdlaiAtkins: Good call. Maybe "Burn Hollywood Burn"? EDIT: Or, you know, "Shut 'Em Down."
I was also thinking "Kill The Poor" but I doubt blasting that on a Boston sidewalk would be a good idea, however unintelligible Jello Biafra is.
If you're gonna take something off The Meanest of Times for Boston, I'd go with "Fairmount Hill." Or you could always just do "For Boston."
Make sure to check with your local police department before bringing any sort of boombox or stereo. For example, here in Cinci, we're not allowed 'megaphones or any sound-amplifying device such as stereos'.
I think it might be a good idea to play easy going stuff, not much metal and stuff like that. Rage Against the Machine is very left/activist if you ask me, even though I love them. The general idea is to keep this as unpolitical, friendly to all sorts of people, and not too dead serious, we're not rioting or anything here.
Another advantage of music: it makes harrasing protesters a bit harder when catchy tunes are playing around you ('could you please quiet down? I really like this song'), and someone posting a vid of a Scientologist trying to gank / steal a music player would be win.
wow, thread is suddenly hot. nicely done. i like your music suggestions, but don't forget to post mp3s on the 420chan thread. i don't have every song, and it'd be nice if the CDs could have enough tunes to last the whole protest
Static-X - The Only Drowning Pool - Step Up H-BlockX - I've Got The Power Pantera - Walk Powerman5000 - Bombshell Rage Against The Machine - Wake Up Godsmack - Awake Queen - Another Bites the Dust
Going way back. Frank Zappa, Joe's Garage Acts 2 and 3. All about L Ron Hoover and the First Church of Appliantology. Full rock opera sequel to Joe's Garage. The church is about having marital relations with home appliances. Fun stuff and some great guitar licks.
I was going to avoid a lot of aggressive sounding metal songs, but now that I see Walk, I think I might have to put that in my mix. I also just realized I forgot Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
DO NOT BRING AMPLIFIED MUSIC. DO NOT BRING AMPLIFIED MUSIC. DO NOT BRING AMPLIFIED MUSIC. DO NOT BRING AMPLIFIED MUSIC. It is almost guaranteed that you need a sound permit to operate sound equipment in a public space. I checked for Berkeley, and San Francisco, both quite liberal places, and they both require sound permits applied for in advance. You do not want to give the scientos a reason to call the cops and have you cited for breaking the law!!!! Second of all, you are idiots for trying to share your individual taste and emotional disposition with the world through your music. I'd love to blast metal at the world, but the world would not appreciate it very much. If anything, I would recommend something attention-grabbing, but neutral and quirky, like chiptunes (MIDI music, game music, cracktros, etc.). Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aojILsSMiUg But that is a moot point. DO NOT BRING AMPLIFIED MUSIC. DO NOT BRING AMPLIFIED MUSIC. DO NOT BRING AMPLIFIED MUSIC. DO NOT BRING AMPLIFIED MUSIC. UNLESS YOU ARE CERTAIN ABOUT THE LAWS IN YOUR AREA.
Way to miss the point COMPLETELY. Also, no one is going to arrest you for bringing a speaker and playing music. The worst they'll tell you to do is turn it off, at which point, you comply. Chiptunes are incredibly harsh on the ears and no one really cares - they aren't "attention-grabbing", at least in my opinion.
If you want to give the scientologists a legitimate hook on you, be my guest--though it would be harmful to the protest in general. I'd rather know I am on the right side of the law and not give a police officer grounds to cite me if pressured (and the scientos a way to identify me). I suggested chiptunes only because they are sufficiently odd that no one should be particularly bothered by them, even if their favorite music is, say, Bach, or 2Pac. The point is to avoid triggering a preexisting reaction in the public; you want to reach out to the old and young, black, white, latino, etc. alike. Rock might be your thing, but not for others.
There are many cases in which officers have cited or arrested individuals, and confiscated equipment, for operating without a sound permit. Of course the reaction depends on the level of hostility and cooperation with police, but you do not want to have your fate depend on the mood of the officer. Do a search on "sound permit" or "without a sound permit" to get some background. This is a touchy legal issue and authorities may not be very charitable about people making more noise than necessary in the city. Some protestors have even been cited for chanting without a sound permit!
Ah, I see your point now with the chiptunes. I just looked up the laws for in Boston and as long as it's not over a certain volume it's legal, so /B/ostonfags are good to go.
Cool. I have seen that some cities do allow permit-less amplified music as long as it is audible only within a certain area, or doesn't cause a crowd to gather, or turtles to fall from the sky, etc. Know the law and be careful and don't do anything that would get you in trouble if someone decided to be a hardass about it.
Here are the suggestions from beatdownbrigade: 1. power rangers theme full version why: listen to the lyrics "They've got a power and a force that you've never seen before They've got the ability to morph and to even up the score No one will ever take them down The power lies on their side Go, go, Power Rangers Go, go, Power Rangers Go, go, Power Rangers You, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers They know the fate of the world is lying in their hands They know to only use their weapons for defense No one will ever take them down The power lies on their side" sound a lot like anon no? 2.Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley why: duh! 3.Come Sail Away - Styx why: lyrics "I thought that they were angels, but to my surprise They climbed aboard their starship and headed for the skies" lol aliens 4.Highway to the Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins why: top gun = tom cruise = lol 5.Staying Alive - Bee gees Saturday Night Fever = John Travolta = Scientology = lol 6.Gaston! why: old meme + would be wacky 7.What is love (Baby don't hurt me, no more)- Haddaway why: old meme + would be wacky + epic if you all do the head bob 8.U Can't Touch This - Mc hammer why: use this if any one can do the hammer dance add to this list. My input: Do not blast the music out, this will count as disturbing the peace or some bullshit like that and will give the $cifags reason to call the cops and have the cops remove us from the premises. Remember $cifags will use any and every little reason to try and get you v&, even if it's something as little as peeling some already peeled paint off their org wall. Play music if you want, just don't push your luck in terms of volume. No music with explicit lyrics or anything that could be classed as offensive either. Rick Astley is the bes tin my opinion.
Yeah, I'm going to run back through my playlist and double-check for offensive language or anything else of the sort...I'll post my final playlist with revisions n' shit.
All good ideas, if you have the mp3s, then post them. I'm getting a lot of great suggestions, but not a lot of actual files to go with them. Understand, guys, I'm in a location where I can't download them on my own. If you want to add it, upload it.
Downloaded them all and am uploading now. Will edit this post with the rapidshit url once done. Edit: Done. Code: http://rapidshare.com/files/88195365/co__raid_music.zip.html
'Mediafly' - Five Foot Thick is a really good one, the lyrics are all about propaganda and not putting up with it anymore.
Oh, right. I have 1812 Overture on my other computer. Would you guys prefer the version with or without cannons? Problem is it's a 17-minute song, so I'll probably just zip and rapidshit them both if you are interested.
Everyone upload the tracks. Also feel free to download the zip I posted the link to and add songs into it and keep re uploading the updated zip.
I've got a 4-minute version (Trans-Siberian Orchestra) that's just the cool shit at the end and not the 13 minutes of quiet strings beforehand. I'll upload.
