I was referring to Scientology as being the mafia organization Angle is associated with. I was just using Democrats as an example.

My google-fu is weak. Can anyone find the actual Harry Reid ad that is mentioned here. It does not appear to be posted online yet.

    Yup.

Obiously, Reid is going to play (has already played?) the "ZOMG she doesn't like teh nice, nice gummints!" card, and that's the one that horrifies the broad left. Doubtless it will be a major focus of the battle in political discussions. It's the Scientology card that Chanology exists to highlight.

Re: Nevada: Sharron Angle Running For Senate

Having put years of effort, mostly fruitlessly, into trying to get Scientology politically obliterated, to the extent that associating with Scientology becomes an albatross around the neck of anyone dumb enough to do with it, I find this very encouraging. There have been some local races where politicians have used Scientology as an attack point, and where it has helped get rid of them, like Democrat Margarita Lopez who used to be on the Manhattan City Council.

This is pretty big, though, when someone on the national stage, like the Senate Majority Leader, thinks it's good enough attack ad fodder that he uses it right alongside normal partisan issues.

Leftfag here, but I don't care when the issue is Scientology. Anyone supporting this cult is either a fool or a crook, and is unworthy of holding office. And that needs to become the rule: support Scientology, lose your job. It has to start costing a politician a lot more than they gain to push this gibberish.

One of Scientology's greatest protections over the years has been "safepointing" these political bodies, by always having at least one or two tools, whether that's "Lord Scientology" McNair in the House of Lords (Lib-Dem lost his seat in 1999) or Mark Foley (R-lost seat in 2006 for being a kiddy fiddler) or whoever. They should be fought in their primary races, by members of whatever party, and fought in the general races by everyone. If you see a politician who routinely supports Scientology, they usually do other sleazy stuff too. Jeff Stone is a great example. I actually can't think of an example of anyone who routinely supports or supported Scientology who is not either a complete sleaze or a total idiot (like that nitwit Delorme McKee-Stovall who puts the tard in libtard).

Anyway, it's great to see that there is now a real cost associated with supporting the cult. That's progress and it's been a long time coming. You would never have seen this five years ago, because of the American fear of criticizing anything that is called a "religion."

    Hmmm..

I'm not sure Scientology is her biggest obstacle to getting elected....

It really should be because it is the most real, most likely to happen or be an effect.

Here I think Angle made a [STRIKE]bit of a[/STRIKE] major gaffe when expressing the not unreasonable view that she doesn't feel she can support anything she sees as causing harm, which alcohol clearly does. There is no way she is going to get alcohol banned nor would she try.

Then again anyone with a pro-prohibition (is that some kind of double negative?) ideology is way too simplistic in their thinking, i.e. they don't, for my tastes.

Incidentally I'd rather see her naive ideologies and simplistic views seriously challenged than the "massages for prisoners" campaigns.

She supported a church of scientology programme that is expensive and ineffective and had she bothered to check she would have found out it has been dumped by other authorities for being exactly that, she is too easily bamboozled and too readily believes what she's being told.

Oh and unlike those other authorities who dropped Narconon she won't admit she's wrong so is likely to throw good money after bad, not someone you want managing finances.

Mind you I am not an expert on US mass media politics.

An actual denial of being a Scientologist:
‘The Accidental Politician’ - Robert Costa - The Corner on National Review Online
I think the bigger point is funneling taxpayer money to one religious organization's program that's been shown not to work as claimed (i.e. a lie), and calling it "based on junk science" would be an insult to junk science.

Re: Nevada: Sharron Angle Running For Senate

    let's see...

    • "I'M NOT A SCIENTOLOGIST BUT..." argument
    • missing the point of the attack (using taxpayers' money to give criminals massages in prison? srsly?)
    • claiming attack on her prison program is an attack on scientology

hmm, where have we heard something like that before?

Natural homeopathic medicine = vitalist crap that believes water has a memory of everything it's previously touched. (I don't see how Hubbard's can be squeezed into homeopathy, I guess it's possible for the Sharroon Loon.)

Oh please please, someone get her talking about chemtrails and the NAFTA superhighway. I'm sure that there are vast reserves of moonbat oil under the surface that could be tapped with a little drilling.

Re: Nevada: Sharron Angle Running For Senate

    Update:

Sharron has referred to her father in her campaign. Her father is Maurice Jesse Ott, an 89-year old retiree in Klamath Falls, OR (where Sharron was born). He also owns property in Tulelake, CA. Her mother is deceased.

She has a brother, Victor Jesse Ott (59) of San Diego, CA. He owns Cryogel:

Entity Name: IBIS CORP. WHICH WILL DO BUSINESS IN CALIFORNIA AS CRYOGEL
    Entity Number: C1571076
    Date Filed: 11/15/1990
    Status: ACTIVE
    Jurisdiction: DELAWARE
Entity Address: 6727 FLANDERS DR #101
Entity City, State, Zip: SAN DIEGO CA 92101
Agent for Service of Process: VICTOR J OTT
Agent Address: 6727 FLANDERS DR #101
Agent City, State, Zip: SAN DIEGO CA 92101

Cyrogel (Ibis Corp*) - San Diego, California (CA) | Company Profile

The name "Jesse" has family significance because it is the middle name of Sharron's father, brother, and son, Vincent Jesse Angle.

Both father & brother have donated to her campaign.

Sharron E Angle - $215,968 raised, '10 election cycle, Nevada (NV), Republican Party, Senate

** I'm still searching for info in Angle's background which might explain why she refused to divulge her maiden name..

Re: Nevada: Sharron Angle Running For Senate

NAFTA Superhighway is real, but that's beside the point, which is that from a Chanology POV, it's actually bad for further Angle weirdness to emerge. The more points of attack there are for Reid, et al to pursue, the less attention will be placed on Scientology. Best case scenario would be for her to be spotless except the cult stuff; the further from that we go, the more difficult it gets to make our particular point heard.

Not that it's up to us, really... just saying. :)

Re: Nevada: Sharron Angle Running For Senate

Not really; she has a lot of wrong ideas about the purif. It might be useful to find out just how she was first "informed" about the program, because the way she describes it is quite different from what it actually is. Did she get sold a false concept, or is she perhaps just making stuff up as she goes?

I'll say this one more time: the more other subjects become the focus of the Angle/Reid race, the less attention Scientology will get. It's up to us to raise the profile of the cult stuff so it doesn't just get left behind. Nobody else is going to do that.

Re: Nevada: Sharron Angle Running For Senate

The main thing (since she shows no sign of changing her mind about Second Chance) is that she fails to be elected.

After that, there's already been enough coverage that people will remember Scientology even if it's her position on Atlantis that finally drags her under. After that, hopefully politicians will think twice before getting too close to Scientology's Touch of Death--even if it wasn't the main clause of her defeat.

I think Sharron Angle cockblocked us. The media's attention will not be on her support of Second Chance and handing over tax dollars to the Church of Scientology if she keeps on threatening violence and insurrection should her opponent win.

Re: Nevada: Sharron Angle Running For Senate

The cults have always had a symbiotic relationship with the Republican Party because they were huge on national defense and were pro-corporate. The Unification Church (Rev. Sun Myung Moon) had a sttrange alliance with the Bush Sr. administration and was an invited guest to his presidential inauguration.

"Moon has long been a major contributor to any politician who shared his anti-communist fervor, from Richard M. Nixon to Ronald Reagan. In the 1980s, Moon was the first donor to Oliver North's Nicaraguan Freedom Fund, which grew into the Iran-Contra scandal. In the mid-1990s Moon paid former Presidents Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush high fees -- believed to be at least hundreds of thousands of dollars -- for delivering speeches to Moon-connected audiences.

In a 2004 party held in the US Senate offices in Washington DC, several Congressmen and Senators of both parties were present to toast him as Moon was coronated "humanity's savior, messiah, returning lord and true parent". There was a time when alleged Christian leader Jerry Falwell spoke out against Moon's excesses, describing him as "like the plague", but Falwell's criticisms ended after his Liberty University received a $3.5-million gift from Moon."

These things are not mutually exclusive. It's entirely possible that she's an airhead who truly believes that she has stumbled upon a Miracle Homeopathic Cure.

I'm just curious. If Narconon and Crimonon are using Scientology religious tech, why isn't funding them an unconstitutional establishment of religion? Otherwise, why can't there be a "Hallelujah Praise Jesus" Christian drug-rehabilitation program?

The cult can't have it both ways. if it's a religion, then giving it funding is a big no-no.
  40. Goosh Goosh Member

Re: Nevada: Sharron Angle Running For Senate

the cult wants to have it both ways

narconon and criminon are 'secular drug treatment programs', but the purif is a 'religious detoxification program'

and nobody in the media is smart enough to see that the two procedures are completely identical
