Tickets for the "Old Dogs" movie opening gala, anchored by John Travolta and his family, will go on sale today at the Ocala Police Department.

About 150 tickets at $250 apiece will be sold in OPD's lobby from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and, if there are any left, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, said OPD Sgt. Angy Scroble. The police department is at 402 S. Pine Ave. in the Pine Plaza.

The event is scheduled for Nov. 20 at Regal's Hollywood 16 theater in southwest Ocala. Travolta, wife Kelly Preston and their daughter, Ella Bleu - all starring in the Disney comedy - will attend the event. Ticket holders will get to see the movie five days before it opens nationally.

OPD will take cash, checks and money orders for the tickets. The catered gala will include photos with the Travoltas, a silent auction, a red-carpet walk and a screening of "Old Dogs."

Ocala resident Jina Humphries, for one, plans to be at the police station at 8:30 this morning to buy tickets.

"I've been a fan from the beginning, from [Vinnie] Barbarino," said Humphries, a real estate agent with ReMax. "I've pretty much seen him in every movie he's ever made. I just love him. I used to have all the posters."

The "Old Dogs" event is a fundraiser for five Travolta-selected nonprofit agencies: the Jett Travolta Foundation, the Florida Highway Patrol Advisory Council, Ocala's Project Hope, the Marion County Public Safety Assistance Trust and the Humane Society of Marion County.

Travolta, who plays an off-his-rocker special agent in the upcoming thriller "From Paris With Love," paid special attention to law enforcement-help agencies when he selected the event's benefactors.

The FHP Advisory Council is dedicated to helping Florida Highway Patrol and the lives of its employees. The Marion County Public Safety Assistance Fund helps member of law enforcement during times of tragedy or illness.

Project Hope is an Ocala outreach to help homeless men, women and children, while the Humane Society finds families for homeless pets.

Travolta and Preston started the Jett Travolta Foundation in memory of their 16-year-old son, who died following a seizure in the Bahamas in January. The foundation aims to help children with vision, hearing, mobility, communication and learning problems.

The Ocala "Old Dogs" event will be a draw for people without tickets, too.

Starting at 4 p.m., there will be free entertainment and informational displays from the benefactors set up in the theater's parking lot. The Humane Society, for example, plans to bring adoptable animals and its Smooch-A-Pooch booth.

Preston, Travolta and Ella are scheduled to greet fans gathered outside the theater, said Andrea Urquiaga of Moroch Entertainment, which is helping organize the event.

"Old Dogs" also stars Robin Williams and will open nationally Nov. 25.

The Ocala premiere will happen one year after Travolta and Preston hosted a similar event in Ocala that raised $55,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Marion County when Disney's "Bolt" opened. The family lives in Anthony and has been active in local philanthropic efforts for years.

"Old Dogs" marks Travolta's third consecutive film with Disney and, subsequently, the actor's third Ocala screening gala for local charities. In 2007, he and Preston also hosted a "Wild Hogs" event that raised money for the Marion Theatre restoration and tornado victims in Lake County.

Boycott and protest the event. Boycott and protest the "Old Dogs" film, and boycott Disney for putting this child endangerer in a film associated with kids and Disney marketing that makes money off kids.
