"Plague" is a good book. What it is NOT about is a conspiracy to suppress the truth about human manipulated viruses. She worked on a complicated study of DNA sequences that looked like mouse DNA (which MIGHT have been causes of CFS, autism, Parkinson's etc). There were conflicting results. She was one of several scientists that later repeated the study finding conclusively that the virus DNA was not found in the CSF, blood or tumors of those with chronic fatigue syndrome or the normal patients in the control group. In the end the group thought the original results were due to lab contamination. She was arrested because she had kept lab results after being fired. The books were returned, her charges dropped. Read the book next time.
