Pokemon Go vs Scientology?

I don't play Pokemon Go, don't want to, but there might be some lulz-mining opportunities in the viral moment.

I know that Pokemon Go has tagged Scientology Orgs as locations of some kind in their augmented reality. For some reason, they tend to tag churches of all sorts:

I don't know if that was such a good idea against attention-whores like WBC.

Gyms can be taken over by challenging the group in charge. Go gamers.

So you can buy lures, this is how 4 teenagers lurked people to desolate empty lots to rob them.

<light bulb> It just occurred to me there is flash raid protester potential here. Somebody sets up a Pokemon Go gym (with a XenuCityName Trainer acct for trolling lulz) and then hands out flyers & raises public awareness on the cult's front lawn. Profit!

  13. Maybe use a name more likely to be known and cause a reaction from the run-of-the-mill Scientologist.

Nintendo seems to use Google Maps to build their locations from.

If only there was a way to game Google Maps to game Nintendo to game their Pokemon game to game Scientology...

Ingress app has a map of gyms/ pokestops and it might be easier to use that map

Yeah. That's why I'm trying to encourage anti-scn activists to get involved. For informing AND intervention potential, as well as some intel on whether or not the staff get a handle on going out and engaging with players.

I would hope though, with public awareness and ridicule being at an all time high nowadays, players who encounter body routers would automatically respond negatively. And basically give staff a waft of shit for interrupting their game. Encountering what people actually think of the cult, day after day, could have an effect on staff after awhile.

Especially if they figure out how to hook players into stepping inside.

Yah, it might be a very good idea to make sure that the Pokemon Orgs have warning images tagged on them in Google Maps. I don't know if they'll show up in the Pokemon app, but players might have Google Maps running too.

Google Maps might be filtering images that don't relate to the location, or have been used on multiple orgs. I still think the best idea is images taken at the actual location: Virtual pickets via Google Maps

Lulz review ideas: "I tried catching a Charmander here, but all I got were Body Thetans. They were Super Defective!"

    Sorry....
can someone please explain to me WTF this is?
A new game catching pokemon and other characters? Right? Can someone explain the location stuff?
I saw on the news that someone crashed their car while trying to catch a pokemon?
    Sorry not game savvy

The game is geo-locational, and uses the GPS in smart phones to identify where the player is to simulate a fake virtual reality type thing where you get to a certain spot IRL to score points and gather critters.

Pokemon Go explained in 500 words

Don't worry about the players being pulled into the Cult. They only interact with other humans If they, too, are hunting Pokemon. A eager recruiter for Scientology will be avoided like a mosquito.
A Pokemon Flash mob is a lovely idea. Pokemon hunters are in a good mood.

And Nintendo stuck a lot of their game universe stuff at Google Maps church locations, which tagged a lot of Orgs because Google Maps doesn't have a "dangerous mind-fucking scam" location category.

The toronto morgue's old location might even be listed. But I couldn't be bothered to even use the application. Hahahaha. I might though, just to label the scientology buildings (former/present) as dangerous.

I think the mapping locations of gyms and pokestops were originally laid out by players of a mobile game called Ingress. It may be possible to make edits of stops and gyms via that game. There's an interesting video on their page as well as download links for Android and iPhone.
