POSTGAME: Melbourne 15th of May (EPIC RAID)

    Hello my lovely anons!

Yesterday, Melbourne Anonymous took to the streets again to protest, and my god was it an awesome one.

This month we ended up with over 60 people turning up to the raid, maybe more thanks to advertising the protests in a new way, and the help of the awesome owner of "Keep Scientology out of Victoria" (facebook group)

We met outside Flinders Street Station at 12.15, and noticed immediately that we had a fair few new people; not all the people had arrived yet, but by 12.30 we had amassed quite alot of people.

Two police officers came up as usual, however it seemed like they were in a very bad mood. They told us off for wearing masks and said they'd arrest anyone who wore them before the protest began. I tried to explain that we had been given permission and that it is our right to wear them (freedom of expression) and the police officer was like "oh give me a break" and refused to check in to the police station for confirmation that we had permission. (which we did, we've had their superior give us prior permission)

We had 1600 of our new fliers to hand out at this point, and almost all of them were gone by the time we moved onto Bourke Street Mall at 2.

my GOD we had alot of new people there, as well as all our usuals, and most of our usual people bought friends, and some of the new people bought their friends too; so the numbers; WOAH. :D

At Flinders Street Station someone who had joined Scientology and only stayed in for a few months came up to us and discussed their problems with the cult. I had walked up when he was mentioning that even to this day, years after him leaving staff, he still gets mail from them. He talked about how he was almost sucked into it, until he read one of the books all the way through and saw how dangerous and scary it was. I believe the words "fucked up" were mentioned.

A student videographer was going through the city when we were at Flinders Street Station, and decided to stay for our entire protest. He had his camera (oh god was it a good camera) and be filmed as much of the protest as he good. He'll be uploading video within the next week.

Our 'Scientology Escort' Mary Anderson (OSA) appeared at Flinders Street, and began to wander for a while. Didn't seem to be doing much there though.

We moved onto Bourke Street Mall at 2, and started handing out fliers, giving free hugs, and listening to awesome music.
The public reception here was quite good! We ended up running out of not only the 1600 fliers I had printed, but the 800 fliers that SirAnon printed... and we weren't even half way through that leg of the protest.

We had a few people come up to us and start having conversations with us about their experiences. One of which was a professor of sociology who had been reading up on Scientology for a long time.

We had even more people turn up at Bourke Street Mall, at least 10 more people turned up here.

Oh, we had a mime turn up. :D

Mary Anderson decided to take more photographs of us at Bourke Street, and that was interesting. She hadn't for a long time. The entire day her usual look of disgust had an extra touch of ANGER this time. Was entertaining standing there with the drawing we had done by our resident artist, while standing infront of Mary.

We moved onto the org at 4pm, where we were greeted by Paul Schofield, and Free To Shine (woot at having ex-scientologists join us!)
When we arrived at the org, they had already shut the doors and closed the curtains. We had so many people there at the org that the opposite side of the street was absolutely FILLED with people, and even when a fairly decent group of protesters ran to the back door of the Church to watch as one of the Scientologists took photos of us, the group was still massive.

The Scientologist at the door began bitching and moaning about us being at the door, saying we were being 'harassing' and 'aggressive' and that we were 'blocking the door' (even though we had left space for people to walk to the door, and leave if they needed to, and for people to walk past the building)
He called the police, and they came up and talked to us. They didn't seem to think we were doing anything wrong really (except when someone dropped flowers on the back door step, which they said could be considered 'assault')

We ended up with 3 police cars and a group of police at the org at one time, but they had no problem with us what so ever. We even stood around joking around with the cops and chatting.

Paul Schofield did a speech, Epic (poison) did a speech as well, I did a speech, all of which were filmed by our visiting videographer.

We had someone from France take photos of us for a French magazine (or newspaper, or something), and have now been covered by IndyMedia.org.au as well.

    :D

This is just from MY perspective of the raid, however, I encourage anyone else who was there to post their own postgame in here too. :3

Wow I am astounded by Melbourne's success. 60 anons, damn thats an figure chanology hasn't seen for a while!
Though it does look like a rather rag-tag mob, needs more suits and professional clothing IMO.

Re: POSTGAME: Melbourne 15th of May (EPIC RAID)

ha ha Zhent. Maybe they should have all been marching in SO uniforms?

We may have had more than 60, but 60 was an estimate ;D
Anyway, I agree. Next time I'll mention to everyone on the invite to dress professional, in either suits or semi-professional stuff :3

Re: POSTGAME: Melbourne 15th of May (EPIC RAID)

the word used by the police was "missile"
so flowers = missile + assault. somehow.

Re: POSTGAME: Melbourne 15th of May (EPIC RAID)

Numbers might drop somewhat, it was a lot of people's first times but I heard more then one person saying 'I am so coming back next month' so we may have just upped our numbers long term as well.

That gay right's parade was HUUuuuuuuuge. I propose we aim to someday draw so many numbers that we require a police escort like them :p. Would be much more impressive then poor old mary. I'll never forget the over-stimulated girl I saw, her cheeks were bright red from constantly screeching like a banshee in to a megaphone 'GAY MARRIAGE NOW! GAY MARRIAGE NOW!' She really looked in need of a couple chill pills.

I lol'd when we arrived and saw the dude who was trying to 'handle' us out the back door was holding a camera and had this big 'ol 'Yeah I knew you were coming, I know all your plans, you scared?' face. Good times.

Oh yeah and anyone care to speculate what two guys were doing on the roof watching us and why? I know they were almost definitely scientologists but...why the roof?

    Trying to fly, maybe?

Also, next time we start a facebook event for all of this, everyone one of you who attends, or even can't attend, INVITE EVERYONE YOU KNOW in Melbourne.
    :D

Sydney, I'd definitely suggest trying out the facebook event idea, just make sure the guest list is hidden. :3
    It sure works.

Is there a place where Epic vids, like Sea Arrg (first time I've viewd that) located all in one place? This is one of the most stellar, creative, on target, sad, happy, awesomeness vids of all time!!

That video of us doing the timewarp was silly ;P
I actually forgot we did it until I saw the video >.>
  36. Re: POSTGAME: Melbourne 15th of May (EPIC RAID)

Because Kenji was probley fapping to hard after he got home from the raid. Ether he forgot or was writing the postgame while doing so, he forgot to mention that we had drawn up a thank you note(Pertition) To Sen. Xenophon.

A Big thanks for Scooter for the idea which he got from ESMB. A big thanks to our resendent reseacher and master word crafter ElDiablo, who has done many late nights for not only Melbanon but also WWP's Wikis.

After counting all of the signatures we got 201 from anons and the public, in an action to express their gratitude. I will be sending a letter and the signatures later this week which I will tape and post on the boards.

Well we've started a "Keep Scientology out of New South Wales" group. Kinda similar but ya know. We'll be posting updates about the raids from it and so on.
