If the cop intentionally hurt the guy's fingers, a "fuck you!" is a pretty understandable response. But yeah, I wouldn't recommend saying "fuck you" to a cop even if he hurts you. It will make him want to hurt you even more.

The first shove is done as by the LEO with his other arm after the camera grab and twist started. The protester is also walking in the direction the leo is pushing him and is mostly out of screen by that point.

There were protesters staged at both street entrances paralleling CC (and leading to the parking lots). Police shenanigans started earlier in the day at the west end (Tamarind and Franklin Aves) when the eventual "arresting" office swept protesters a considerable distance back from the street and entrance so a "film crew" (a couple of older overdressed IAS members with cameras) could "film their shot" of arriving guests. At one point Tory voiced her objection to the violation of her Constitutional rights, and that is when it became apparent that this officer was Scientology friendly.

I've picketed the Celebrity Centre before...but not in front of it (the Franklin Ave. side). My way of picketing was to continually cross the street as the lights changed, cross Franklin, cross Bronson, cross Franklin, cross Bronson, over and over and over again. Sea Orgers would stand on their corner of Franklin and Bronson, kittycorner to the grocery store and just grind their teeth. The locals loved it, first because they despised the cult almost as much as we do and because I was working with the lights and traffic and not fucking things up, like blocking off the streets does LAPD!!!

What proof do you have that he is "friendly" with CoS? Maybe the guy was called in to work the event at the last minute on his day off and just wanted to keep the peace?

Homeless, mentally ill people etc. often swear at cops without the cops assaulting them. Most "professional" cops do not physically respond to verbal provocation.

Rif, babycakes, I've dealt with the cops long before you were attending protests and I've done a better job of keeping people in line so stuff like this doesn't happen. You don't even have AGP or AO to have to calm down.

Nice generalization there. I'd think any person who is having resistance from a person, like this cop was having from this idiot protester, would get upset at a giant fuck you. Clearly this cop lost his cool, but you'd have to be retarded to think telling a cop "fuck you" in a heated situation is similar to someone who can't control their own actions.

I'd also like to point out the full story hasn't come out yet either, so we don't know if this was the result of just a sudden outburst or something that had been going on between the two throughout the protest.

This cop was definitely in COS's pocket. Well before this incident, he and his partner were pouring over picketer files with OSA in plain view of several of us. Not to mention that it's well known that these cops are actually off-duty and being paid directly by the Church, which makes them more likely to curry favor by being more aggressive with protesters than they normally would be.

If an officer is provoked, it becomes a grey area. As long as he doesn't beat the shit out of the guy or something to that extreme.

Yep, I've seen these guys years ago, but regardless of that, they're still in uniform and that counts for something. Also, I wouldn't jump the shark yet and assume much about the conversations you weren't a part of between them and "OSA".

Also, you're wrong about being more aggressive with protesters, especially since they're are cameras being held by protesters. Unless the cop is stupid, like it seems this one is, he would probably think twice before doing something. Altho, I still standby that you would have to be an idiot to provoke a cop.

That's an allegation with no proof so far. It's unclear if that happened in the video. Also, from day 1 we've said this is a peaceful protest and to be the bigger man and not lose your . If you're gonna lose your cool cause a cop touches your little finger you shouldn't be there. There are other options in that situation besides acting like a child.

Seriously, Kirsten Caetano was standing right there while her underling brought out a huge stack of papers which the officer dutifully reviewed with them. I've been to enough protests to know the routine; they're going to cite every chapter and verse they can to get the cops to stop the protests. Normally they tell them to pound sand, but not so much when they're actually being paid to work "security."

And maybe the cop is getting paid and figures, eh I guess I'll look at this but I really don't give two shits about this. There's a lot of possibilities, but I guess if you want to be lazy you can just jump to the easiest conclusion.
