Well, I suppose if alien cults don't stand up for each other who will? COS should be very proud they just got a thumbs up from the largest UFO cult. Oh wait a minute, let me correct that..

The newest major UFO based religion which has membership numbers as well as growth the dwarfs scientology... sorry COS, but you really are made of fail.

I am not sure I would follow all the cardinal's views, but having a debate about how religions are recognized is good.

This is comparable to having the WBC support the Co$. Its more of a footbullet for them than any form of a positive.

Ahh I can see it now...

"Breaking news, UFO/ALIEN CULT SUPPORTS XENU!"

    Epic in itself.

Cardinal Ouellet is well known for conservative Catholic views which many people criticize severely, but his saying that Scientology is not a religion will strike the general public as a statement of common sense. Scientology has had a lot of negative exposure in pretty much all Quebec media in recent weeks.

Rael, by contrast, is infamous throughout Quebec and he's considered a joke. The support of a Raelian spokesperson is nothing for Scientology to rejoice about.

Why would a Scientologist speak against the Cult Awareness Network?

    Doesn't Scientology own it?

Look at the date of the text (end of quote)
CAN was then what its name tends to imply, before it was taken over by scientology.

I wonder if the Raelians are fully aware of what goes on behind their allys façade?

Sure we can laugh at the Raelians, but at the end of the day they won't send PIs out after us for doing so. Even if their promotion of free love and cloning are unpalatable to many, the money they collect to pursue these endeavours appears to be used to do so (without much success in the case of clonaid) and not quietly shuffled into the leaders bank accounts. A 10% tithe is the norm but not mandatory, and even the most critical pages I've read about them mention nothing analogous to disconnection or forced abortion. Raelianism doctrine has some dodgy parts (a belief in genetic purity for a start) but it does look more like a fringe religion than a cult. They are certainly not in the same league as Scientology.

Maybe we should let the branch involved in this partnership know who they're in bed with. Does the Raelian free love doctrine extends to such a vicious and abusive organisation? One way to find out. Seeing the Raelians publicly distance themselves from the scifags would be comedy gold. Worth harpooning?

Have you heard of the guru's racing team ?
It is a cult. Perhaps less sinister than scientology, but it is a cult.
Would request some research, but might be worth the efforts. Angles to examine, IMHO:
    - different SF stories,
    - different views on sexuality.

This move by the Raelians appear to be more looking out for their interests.

    Say, can anybody join?

At least the Relians are open & up front about their beliefs. (That & not being abusive pricks.)

Re: Quebec: The raëliens support the Church of Scientology

    You can contact them:

    Dear Raelians,

We enjoyed marching by you at this year's Pasadena Doo Dah parade. Your flying saucer was awesome. OUR galactic overlord, Xenu, was much pleased.

We are Anonymous, and we protest Scientology's destructive behavior. Rael seems to be under the misapprehension that Scientology, as a religion, deserves your support. If you knew what we know about Scientology, you would move as far away from them as possible.

In an earlier release on this site, Rael asks, “How come the German politician Nagel who asked for Scientology to be banned for its non-respect of the constitution, doesn’t say anything about the Koran?”

Short answer, apples and oranges. Scientology was founded by L. Ron Hubbard after his earlier endeavor, Dianetics, came under fire for practicing medicine without license. The fact is, true believers die of treatable disease, simply because they are urged to use Scientology procedures rather than medical science. Jett Travolta is a good example. His parents, John Travolta and Kelly Preston, are high level Scientologists. They paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to reach the level where you're supposed to have power over Mass, Energy, Space and Time. As Scientologists, they refuse to believe that autism exists, choosing to blame their son's condition on environmental toxins and Kawasaki Syndrome, a reaction that is treatable, does not affect adolescents, and does not cause seizures. So, Jett went untreated until the final seizure that caused his death. And John, the mighty thetan, could not bring him back to life, despite Hubbard's claims that this was possible.

Scientology became a religion to avoid governmental interference in their practices, and the tax break didn't suck too.

It's a floor wax and a dessert topping! In the US, they play religion. In countries where their religious status is not recognized, they play self help counselor. Either way, the sucker who falls for it is the loser. The only thing that really works in Scientology is their slick PR machine.

Scientology is against free speech. They are being investigated by Amnesty International for human trafficking. They are being sued for years of imposed slave labor by a couple who spent their lives in the paramilitary Sea Organization, working for .36 cents a day under often squalorous conditions. The horror stories from people who've escaped have a depressing sameness about them, tales of deprivation, harassment, intimidation, substandard living conditions and punishment.

Germany declared them a threat to their democracy for a reason. When it comes to totalitarian regimes, they've experience of some of the worst. Scientology's doctrine includes, literally, ruling the world and disposing of all who refuse to follow under its lead. Little wonder Germany is concerned! Scientology perpetrated the largest domestic espionage case in American history, Operation Snow White. Government offices were bugged, documents were stolen.

In a lecture entitled "Future Org Trends" given
    January 9th 1962, L. Ron Hubbard said:

"You want to know what happens when you clear
everybody in that neighbourhood, the only thing that [Scientology] center can become used for is a
political center. Because by the time you've done all this, you are the government..."

"Once the world is Clear - a nation, a state, a city
or a village - the Scientology-organization in the
area becomes its government! And once this has taken place the only policy accepted as valid is Scientology policy."

And if that's not clear enough, here is Hubbard's description of his ideal world:

"Did you ever read poor old George Orwell's uh... 1984? Yes, yes, that's wonderful. That would be, could be, the palest imagined shadow of what a world would be like under the rule of the secret
use of Scientology with no remedy in existence."
-L. Ron Hubbard PDC Lecture #20

Doesn't that sound delightful? We noticed the vast difference between you guys at the parade, and the Scientologists we see. Did you know that, while you were inflating your saucer, representatives from the local Scientology organization were whining at the organizers, trying to get us kicked out of the Doo Dah parade? Later, they were seen following us afterwards, trying to get pictures of our faces and our vehicle plates, so they could track us down and make our lives unpleasant. It's called Fair Game. They deny it, but they keep doing it. That is why we wear masks, to protect our identities from this Mafia-like organization masquerading as a religion!

Germany is quite right in recognising Scientology as a commercial scam. It is perfectly acceptable for a Scientology spokesperson to lie, cheat, steal; as long as it benefits the organization. They even have a training program to make effective liars, called TR-L. It is no surprise that your organization has been misled into supporting what you think is a New Religious Movement. But, even Hubbard once said, "Scientology has opened the gates to a better world. It is not a psycho-therapy nor a religion."

-- L. Ron Hubbard, "The Creation of Human Ability"
    Los Angeles: A.S.H.O., 1971, page 251

Of course, it tries to be both, and fails. People are hurt by this group. People are currently being hurt by this group.

Scientology employs doublespeak very effectively. It claims to support human rights, while violating the rights of members and critics.

It has elaborate recruitment setups in the form of front groups whose sole function is to funnel money and new recruits into the organization.
Youth for Human Rights, Criminon, Narconon, Applied Scholastics, Volunteer Ministers; all are simply part of an elaborate sting designed to access vulnerable people.

Rather than listening to Scientology spokespeople, look at their 50 year history of deaths, criminality, fraud and abuse. That is where the truth lies, and they can't lie about the truth. In an information war, the truth is a valuable weapon. If you want to inform yourselves about this thing you are supporting:
Stop Scientology Abuses | You Found The Card

This site is a good place to begin. Once you realize what you're dealing with, you'll be in a better position to make an informed decision about offering your support to Scientology.

Raelians is no peace and love organization. Rael mimics what Co$ does.

Couples of years back, journalists in Quebec infiltrated Realians and revealed that it was just a money grabing cult.

The fact is they are s**ting in their pants because they know that if the Quebec government revokes Co$ religious corporation status, they are the next in line.

Their bawwing against Cardinal Ouellet is just another fart in the wind.

Hadn't heard of the racing team, lol. I was thinking more of a letter along the lines of what Xenubarb wrote, leave doctrine out of it and highlight the human rights abuses and the fact they are under investigation by various bodies. The political implications of being closely allied with a group under criminal investigation could be a hell of a lot more persuasive than anything based on differences in doctrine, especially if Peterstorm is right about them. Would a suspect group want to be standing beside another suspect group when they get shot down? I don't think so. Also, if it looks like we care about doctrine that reinforces the scifags standard line that we're bigots.

Raël has appeared on various talk shows in Quebec. The five-part example below has English subtitles. A few days after this program aired, Raël complained he was assaulted by the caricaturist who ridiculed him and tugged on his hair in part 4 at offset 4:40.
