    He's pleading the Shaggy defence?

Great article, thanks. Very sad to see Marty reapply L Ron Hubbard's ruse of fabricated enemies to justify criminal actions. As every good cult leader knows, having enemies is indispensable. An enemy, the more powerful and secret the better, helps explain why the teachings of the cult do not work, helps rally the cult members, and justifies what might otherwise seem to be crazy. From Gerry's article:

. . . just as L. Ron Hubbard had SMERSCH, Marty Rathbun has FAMCO.

Thank you, Gerry, for your work. It must be frustrating that the Old Guard can never really retire because there are still plenty of apologist Xenu Duplicators out there attempting to rewrite history.

  4. tl;dr Rathbun does the Shaggy defense, and that’s not all.

Rathbun does use the Shaggy Defense – “a strategy of flatly denying guilt and refusing to engage with the evidence against you, no matter how overwhelming.”

Rathbun uses pretty well all the defenses out of Fe Lon Hubbard’s psycho-playbook. I think Hubbard stated the all-time classic Shaggy in HCO PL January 31, 1983, “The Reason for Orgs.”

The evidence against him, that he had been lying to and conning Scientologists and wogs alike for decades by then, was overwhelming. A mass of evidence, from his own personal archive and much of it in his own handwriting, was then sitting in the Clerk’s Office in the LA Superior Court, the subject of the Scientology v. Armstrong case.

Three days after writing (or dating) “The Reason for Orgs,” Hubbard wrote (or dated) this letter to the LA Superior Court: http://www.gerryarmstrong.org/50k/legal/a1/1726.php

What Hubbard wanted was the evidence of his lying hidden or destroyed. He wanted warrior Rathbun and his troops to destroy the people who told the truth about his lying, and destroy anyone else who came to their rescue, such as Mike Flynn.

More than the Shaggy Defense, however, Rathbun employs the Great Warrior Defense, in his book, and out of his book: “You did lots of things, but they were necessary, in fact laudable, because the enemies (the APA, the AMA, the DOJ, the IRS, FAMCO) were so evil and threatened so great a man with so great a cause.”

The Great Warrior Defense is a variation of the Robin Hood Defense: “Sure you committed crimes, but they were against the suppressive Sheriff of Famcoham and his illicit campaign to destroy religion, so you’re actually a hero.”

The Great Warrior Defense is the same justification Rathbun used during all his years inside the cult when he was committing the criminal acts he, being still the Great Warrior, now still defends.

Rathbun claims for Hubbard the same Great Warrior defense throughout Memoirs. Hubbard instituted the SP doctrine and the fair game the policy because of all the evil entities arrayed against him, preventing him and his tech from being accepted -- the US Navy, the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover and his boys, the AMA, the APA, the IRS, the DOJ, the CIA, Interpol, vested interests, communists, monopolies, and FAMCO.

What, to not pay admission? Those bastards!

Most importantly, Rathbun did all he did, including crimes against the SP class, in service of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard and David Miscavige, the originators, purveyors and enforcers of Command Intention. Call it SCHUMCO ®

When you support one corner of the SCHUMCO triangle, you support all corners. When you increase one corner of the SCHUMCO triangle, you increase the whole triangle. When you gain acceptance for one corner of the SCHUMCO triangle, you gain acceptance for all of SCHUMCO.

In that Rathbun continues to use the same defenses for the same antisocial or criminal actions as he used to justify those actions during earlier periods in SCHUMCO’s service, it can be assumed that he is still in service of SCHUMCO and that he will continue to commit and such justified actions according to SCHUMCO’s command intention.

If he saw his fair game actions against SCHUMCO’s “enemies” as justified and laudable in the 1980’s, 1990’s and 2000’s, and if he sees these fair game actions as justified and laudable in 2014, it can be expected that he would continue those actions, to, among other reasons, generate the appearance of his sincere belief in their laudability.

In addition to other benefits from his service to SCHUMCO, Rathbun also profits personally by selling his black PR of SCHUMCO’s avowed “enemies” as his Memoirs. Pretty schummy.

Whatever disagreements I have had with Gerry about other matters, Michael Flynn did a grave disservice to many of his former clients, Gerry along with Paulette Cooper, whom he betrayed and subsequently sued in his own name.

It is not at all surprising he eventually ended up a pro-cult lawyer for the Transcendental Meditation cult, as well as the notorious jerk Deepak Chopra.

Flynn may be a highly talented attorney. But as a human being, he is a genuine scumbag.

Not that CoS didn't have reason to think of Michael Flynn as the boogeyman:
That's great comedy. I guess he feels that if he denies something big (and pretty stupid) no one will ask him about any smaller illegal acts.

They have no reason to dislike him any more. In fact, he pulled one of their own Scientology litigation stunts against Cooper, compounding insult with injury by suing her on both the East and West Coast at the same time.

    WTF! Dox?

I knew the whole Flynn-caved fiasco went off the rails. But I'm only familiar with Gerry getting a bum deal and all the bawling done over on ESMB regarding how the FAIR class action suit for 250+ indies vs. church of scilon died on the vine once Flynn exited the scene.

  13. Judge Paul Breckenridge summed up everything one needs to know about this sinister L. Ron Hubbard scam of Scientology when ruling against Scientology in Jerry's case. His analysis was dead-on accurate and the organization has not changed in any way since, it's completely abusive and vindictive today as well.

This is Scientology's nature in accordance with unchangeable LRH policies. It all derives directly from the source, the convicted fraud and abusive, pathological liar, L. Ron Hubbard. This man's policies on the treatment of children in and of themselves constitute child abuse, Hubbard was a mentally deranged monster.

Google: L. Ron Hubbard / Child Abuse

(It's all quite revealing as to what this sick fuck was all about.)

  14. Marty Rathbun enforced those policies for year. He is a despicable human being for having attacked so many people and hurt them while never taking any responsibility for his actions.

... and denying the Rathbuns income needed to help pay their attorneys to fight David "Darth Midget" Miscavige, eh ?

  18. Well actually, probably to make Rathbun’s Memoirs available for open, societally relevant and needed examination and criticism of this subject of Scientology, which its appliers seek to get us wogs, by lies, bullying etc. to accept. You claim to be a Scientology applier, a Scientologist.

You are essentially claiming to have knowledge of the Rathbuns needing to sell Memoirs -- which is in huge part the black PRing, libeling and otherwise victimizing of Michael Flynn, me, and our friends and associates -- in order to help pay attorneys to “fight” Miscavige.

What you claim is a very high level of knowledge or evidence.

Miscavige and Rathbun are united when it comes to their long term SP targets and their fair gaming. Obviously you are likewise united with Miscavige and Rathbun, and would argue against denying Rathbun the income he derives from his black PR, defamation and victimization of Flynn, et al.

“Flynn” is mentioned 117 times in Memoirs, “Armstrong” is mentioned 101 times, and “Hobson” is mention 0 times. You’re not Rathbun’s victim even once.

Gerry, why don't you post Rathbun's book?
  20. Gerry its great to see you here and I for one appreciate your work.

But arguing with Hobson will break you as a human being. We've all been there at varying stages and its soul-destroying. When you think you have him on the ropes he will just disappear for a month.

He is a lot like legendary cartoon character "road runner". He cannot be captured or defeated. Of course he does not run as fast due to his generous proportions but the point is still valid.

And to Hobs, no offence is meant by the above statement. I have said this to you before and I see no reason to sockpuppet this. I am who I am. And I do quite enjoy your work in small doses
