Don't be hating just because Canada still thinks this is the 1700s and the only means of transportation is horses.
  13. Archer Member

Don't be hating because of your lack of knowledge about how shit works. But since you're american I forgive your ignorance.
  14. anonymous612 Member

Don't be hating just because Canada doesn't know how to rebel against England properly and we do.

It's okay, I'm sure that whole "ruled by a foreign queen" thing isn't as lol as it sounds.

We managed to gain independence without a single drop of blood shed, while you guys almost got owned while being saved by the french. Not sure what you mean but you should read an history book.
  16. anonymous612 Member

Independence? That's why the head of govt is the Queen of England, right? Because you're independent. <3
  17. Archer Member

That must be also why we refused to go in iraq while england was head on going there. Yep.

You need to learn about how these things work before talking out of your ass dear.
  18. Archer Member

You could argue that it took us longer, but saying we are not independent is ridiculous, you clearly lack an understanding of the complex relationship between britain and Canada. We gained our complete independence as far as making decisions goes but managed to remain close allies. Without a single drop of blood shed might I add.
    Let's have a timeline, I love those:
1956- Britain invades Egypt in response to Suez crisis. The government of Lester Pearson does not support the move, marking the first time Canada opposed a British foreign policy initiative.
Feb 15, 1965- Canada adopts its own national flag, turfing the Red Ensign and Union Jack. 1972- Unique Canadian medals for military bravery, courage, and valour are created, to replace British honors such as the Victoria Cross.
1975- British citizens living in Canada are no longer able to vote in Canadian elections. 1977- The Canadian Citizenship Act is revised.
-The phrase "A Canadian citizen is a British subject" is removed from passports.
-Canadian Citizenship becomes the only legal form of citizenship in Canada. Jul 1, 1980- "O Canada" is officially adopted as Canada's national anthem, replacing "God Save the Queen."
Apr 17, 1982- Constitution Act is Revised.
-The British Parliament can no longer amend Canada's Constitution.

So the queen isn't the head of your government? :)
  20. Archer Member

Technically she has no power, there is a representative of the queen in canada called a governor general which by law is required to be a CANADIAN BORN CITIZEN and that has no official duties and is just allegoric.

You're out of your element bb

  26. Queen Elizabeth II is the head of state, which is strange to some Americans, because our head of state and head of government are the same person, currently, President Barack Obama. Aren't you slightly understating the power of the crown, though? The Queen, through the Governor General, has some reserve powers. Granted, many of those powers have never been used in Canada, but it has been used in Ausfailia in 1975. You're independent with an asterisk.
  27. Archer Member

As soon as they would try using those powers, they would be removed, as I said the relation between canada and britain is complex and a lot of americans misunderstand it.
  28. anonymous612 Member

Have they been removed in Australia?
  29. Archer Member

    Is canada australia?

You said if the queen every tried exercising those powers they'd be removed. She tried in Australia. I bet they weren't removed there.

And somehow Australians seem a little bit more psychotic and prone to rebellion than Canadians, eh?

Can any of you faggots stay on topic?

    Sure.

the Aussies have had at least one, possibly more, referendums to remove her. They voted she stay
I was surprised that she appears to have exercised any power but too lazy to go look at the circumstances
and i get mixed up with commonwealths etc
but then i can never remember the differences between UK and GB through lack of interest too lol
  36. At which point the government would still be dissolved, and new elections would still have to be called. That said, Canada has never had a situation analogous to the crisis in Australia in 1975. For what little it's worth, I think Sir John Kerr was right.
