So you don't think an author or e-zine should have credibility and be known/respected as an unbiased medium? Interesting...
On topic: I think this guy makes a decent point about the cult-like behavior displayed by a lot of Ron Paul supporters.
So....his evidence of said "cult-like behavior" is a quote-mined, 3-second-long, taken-out-of-context clip (btw, the FULL RP vido of that was actually about whether or not the federal government has any authority to decide one way or the other on said issue, and RP's stance is that the States should decide and that no President should use the force of law against people seeking abortions regardless of said Presiden'ts view on it), followed by a tl;dw pointless rant with no substance? 0_o
Ya know, that's the best thing about RP imo... Minimize the fed and let the states step it up. That way, if a state is particularly fubar, you can always move to another state. There's no reason to destroy an entire nation, not when it's already conveniently setup in a way to prevent annihilation. Let's let the liberals, democrats, republicans, libertarians, tea party, capitalists, socialists, and communists each have their own state and see how it turns out. That way the fed can narrow their focus on things like defense and foreign policy and stop fucking everything up. It'll be a fun little science experiment.
We fought a bloody war that destroyed a generation in order to preserve the Union. We're not going to devolve into a bunch of crazy states all following their own culty ideas.
It's funny how we're taught that in school, but like any conflict, there are two sides. The losing side wanted to utilize slavery in order to keep the cotton-crop cash cow going and allow states the right of nullification (which is a State's right to declare a stupid law, passed by the Fed, stupid). One of the problems in those days was that nearly all of America's military were militia. That is not the case today. Without full-on revolution the US will never have a decentralized government like it did prior to the Civil War, but that doesn't mean that the states can't be given more liberties than they currently possess.
No, it's a specific complaint. Humans are naturally cultish. But cults distort reality for people. Cults make their own facts. Education, science, engaging with people from around the world --that's how humans have lifted themselves up from their tribal nature. It might *feel* good, devolving into 50 distinct tribes. But it's a step backward intellectually and socially. BTW, you know who also likes the libertarian anti-Federal government memes? The Moonies. I do not think the Moon family or their pal, Kim Jong Il, are in favor of weakening US Federal power because they have our best interests at heart.
You let me know how well that works for you. As it is, I'm having trouble finding a high school graduate from any of those wonderful federalized schools who even know who the fuck Abraham Lincoln is. I shudder to think of what would happen to their poor wee brain cells if I ever asked them who wrote The Scarlett Letter.
Education in the US has gone downhill. Finland apparently is doing a better job. http://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/2011/09/01/a-goal-to-strive-for/ http://scienceblogs.com/mikethemadbiologist/2011/02/finland_and_what_we_can_learn.php Rather than pit Americans against Americans, how about we look at what works in other countries and steal their ideas?
Lots of reasons for this. 1) Gov't has been extracting money from education for years to pay for wars. 2) Public education was started by teachers, an occupation disliked sense it began with the working woman, something society disliked 200 years ago. For some reason that transformed into hating teachers in general. 3) Lots of parents don't like public education cause it isn't teaching what they want their children to learn. Or they do not like the concept of the government teaching my kid. 4) Government tries to fix schools by simplifying the problem to something that really is not the issue and punishes schools that have few resources to begin with for not doing a better job. (aka Race to the Top and NCLB), and the proportion of the U.S. citizens who loudly demand government simplify problems and come up with quick fixes are to blame as well. 5) Parents get adversarial with schools, often leading to threats to lawsuits to get their way. This leads schools to adopt policies to just appease parents sense they cannot afford a million dollar a year legal representation. Even if it makes the child retarded. 6) Culturally, America has less appreciation for education and greater appreciation for what job someone gets. In many parts of Europe, it is nearly the exact opposite.
Liar! " Texas Gov. Rick Perry isn't ruling out the possibility his state may one day secede from the nation." http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/04/16/texas-governor-says-secession-possible/
Ron Paul needs to drink his Maalox, change his diaper, and STFU. http://gothamist.com/2011/09/30/ron_paul_criticizes_obama_for_assas.php
Last I checked, assassination is illegal under international law, regardless of one's "interpretation."
To each his own, but Ron Paul, by far, is the best candidate the Republicans have to offer (though I doubt he has any chance of being the party nominee).
Yeah, the 'interpretation' that murder is wrong. Obama agrees with Hubbard: "Never fear to hurt another in a just cause."
I don't know if the "Obama is a slacker" meme will stick. It worked on Bush because of his history of being a mediocre Yale student, of running an oil company into the ground, and of blowing his wealth on frivolous things. But Obama was a senior lecturer in constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School. Slackers don't do things like that.
Making up their own facts? Much like Fox News and most of the GOP. BTW Kim Jong Il has invisible cell phones and is the greatest hacker in the world. He is monitoring this right now.
The Moonies aren't entirely a joke. They appear to run an unregulated financial channel between Korea-Japan-US.
Nothing any other government hasnt done before. They have their own military and black ops but when your country is as poor and deprived as they are that "empire" isnt going to last alot longer.
