Scientologists not recognized as Religious Workers by UK Border Agency

Maybe USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) will take note of this. UK does not issue Religious Worker visas to scientologists.

Can anyone find an updated version of this document, published by the UK Border Agency in 2004

    http://ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec...schapter5/06section6/section6.pdf?view=Binary

So, the UK Border Agency says that scientologists cannot be classified or recognized as:

    • Ministers
    • Missionaries
    • Members of a Religious Order (i.e. Sea Org doesn't count)

    Related, unresolved, earlier thread

Maybe someone has an update on this.

Wasn't there a little scam operating through a loophole a while ago where they were coming in on a visitors visa, then just before expiry, buggering off to Ireland for a night, then coming back with a new visitors visa for another six months?

With all the crackdowns on immigration, including a few sad stories lately of genuine people getting caught up in red tape that was never meant to affect them, I wonder whether this is why the number of scifags spotted in London has dwindled?

The only two options I can think of open to scifags long term is the marriage route (may explain why so many sci marriages don't last long) and the 'skilled worker' programme - but then again, is "auditing" really considered a skill by the 99.999999% of the world that isn't Scientology?

Yes, link to scam already mentioned by OP

UK started tightening immigration regulations about a year ago. Highly unlikely that the Border Agency recognizes Scientologists for the 'skilled worker program' seeing as how they are specifically not recognized as 'religious workers'.

    Great find, OTBT!

The 2004 guidance is listed on the current webpage of the Border Agency. That means it is current. That webpage was last updated on 2 September 2009.

    Also, here's Annex U: http://ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec...dischapter5/06section6/annexu.pdf?view=Binary

Thanks for the info and links.

Since the UK Border Agency singles out and then lumps together the Scientologists and the Moonies, it might be useful to note exactly how the Moonies are treated. From Annex U link above:

It seems logical that if the Moonies are not allowed permit-free employment, then Scientologists would also not be allowed permit-free employment.

So, will non-UK scientology staff be hustled out the UK before David Miscavige shows up in London soon?

Perhaps the UK Border Agency would be interested in interviewing David Miscavige personally about foreign Scientology staff members working in the UK. After all, David Miscavige is the Ecclesiastical Leader of Scientology worldwide, and of course, would have absolutely nothing to hide from the UK authorities. UK Border Agency might give David Miscavige a very personal welcome when he arrives in London later this year.

Maybe David Miscavige can explain to the UK Border Agency that, since Scientology is the fastest growing religion in the world, wog employment visas are too time consuming to deal with. And since Scientology Auditors are the Most Valuable Beings on the Planet, the UK should be lucky to have so many Scientology Auditors and staff working in the UK.

Copied over from the Northumbrian Ideal Org thread: thought it might be relevant here.

My understanding of charity law in the UK is that donations to a charity may not benefit the donors or it is not a charity. But every advertisement put out by Scientology in Britain underlines the fact that members benefit. They improve their health, they make money, they make more money, they get better in every way, they can even acquire superpowers. This is not a charitable activity. I have no doubt that Australia views charities in the same light or they could not have reciprocal rights in Britain.

This is countered by their (IMO utterly phony) activities as Volunteer Ministers - this is probably charitable and that is probably the only reason they invest in yellow tents and tee-shirts. Narconon is not run for nothing to benefit addicts. Far from it.

This could be a profitable line of argument.

Sorry to point out the obvious, but that's because the CoS is treated as a religion in the USA, but not in the UK.

That said, the two countries can learn about the facts from each other, since it's the same organiztion and the same shenanigans.

Bump for the Headley law suits.

I just ran across this document while researching something else.
