SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS This thread is to list all of Scientology's copyright infringements. (Scientology using other people's crap without permission) This is so we can have it all in one place and then hopefully transfer this information over to the Wiki so others can see it. We can also post businesses that were used for PR. Please list infringement with dox. Pictures, posters, videos , emails, links or whatever you found. Don't know if you want to include links to the emails in regards to the poons that were sent to companies, people etc.... if you have them. We can use this as a research thread too. There are already a few other threads discussing their copyright infringements here and there, but maybe this thread can put it all in one place? Off hand, I can think of many cases, with the most recent blunder of the US Seal being used at the DC Org opening and the Wizard of Org poster for their Detriot costume party. Another biggy was the Winston Churchill poster footbullet. Now more than ever, people are starting to pay attention to the crimes of Scientology. Companies and people need to know they ae being used. GO GO GO!

Here denial through her rep: "Kimora denied that claim, and said through her rep that she wasn’t a Scientologist, so what’s she doing hanging out at a party with them? If I was famous and some cult leader tried to tie me to his organization I would keep a wide berth. Maybe she was trying to show there were no hard feelings and has ambitions that Cruise could help her with, but it sounds more to me like Miscavige’s claims had some element of truth to them." http://www.celebitchy.com/category/kimora_simmons/ In the video below they claimed Coca Cola Pakistan issued booklets that had a braile edition for the blind. Also mention Phillips Electronics Pakistan, and Dell computers in Africa. Claims 7-11 handed out booklets in 4,000 stores across Taiwan. These were denied by the companies mentioned. Here is Phillips Electronic's denial: From Philip's Corporate Communications director The LATimes’ Web Scout blog also received comments from Philips and two of the other corporations named in the video, who likewise deny any ties to the cult: From Phillips Electronics: "We have indeed investigated this and can confirm that there is absolutely no relationship between our business and the Church of Scientology. I hope this helps clarify things for you and we really appreciate the opportunity to confirm that we have no affiliation with this group." Philips Electronics spokesman: “We were as stunned as anybody this morning. It’s not something we were aware of. As an equal opportunity employer, religion is not something we comment on.” http://www.celebitchy.com/9316/comp...affliation_w_cult_global_protests_take_place/ [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfu7Sr50N7U&feature=player_embedded]YouTube - Scientology advocates violence against psychiatry[/ame]. Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS Doesn't the CCHR exhibit have some images in there? YES!!! ok, The CCHR video of their exhibit show MANY star's pictures. I saw Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Billy Holiday, Vivien Leigh,Dick Powell, Robert Walker and Charlie Parker? plus many more on the wall I couldn't really see and identify from that video. The narrator claims that these stars, musicians and writers: " all died after receiving pyshciatric treatment!!" WOW! I am sure the esstates of these stars would like to know that not only are the images being used in an anti-psychatriatry exhibit, but they are telling people in the narration that they died after receiving pyshciatric treatment! Holy cow! The vid below needs to be copied for reference ASAP before it dissapears!! I do not know how to do that. It is posted on metacafe.com, this is not from their website. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/650397/cchrs_psychiatry_an_industry_of_death_museum_video_tour/ There are also many other people's images used in this exhibit.

Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS Scientology used to photocopy some of the Les Dane books and bind them and sell them to their scientology students for their course on regging (registrar-ing; sales). I know they didn't get any permission for that.
Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS I found this: Hubbard borrowed generously from a 1971 book called "Big League Sales Closing Techniques." Touted as the "selling secrets of a supersalesman," the book was written by former car dealer Les Dane, who has conducted popular seminars at Scientology headquarters in Florida. Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS Sometime around/between 2000 and 2003. Narconon, I believe, published a series of websites, using the design and source code of a semi-popular UK site, which ironically promoted the use of drugs. And no, it wasn't parody--they just liked the design and decided to steal it figuring no one would notice. Of course, people noticed and eventually Narconon removed those sites. I can't recall the name of the site they ripped off, or I'd have an easier time finding posts about it in Google Groups. I recall posting about it both on ARS and on the infringed-upon site's message board (they were obviously pissed) but can't find a thing about it now. Any oldtimers recall this?

Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS Scientology exposé finds favour ? The Register Scientologist Web site rips off urban75.com ? The Register Also, http://www.urban75.com/rip_off.html
Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS fabulous!!! Here it is on Rick Ross too Scientologist Web site rips off urban75.com The Register (London)/January 22, 2001 By Thomas C Greene A group of addiction treatment 'experts' called Narconon, which has ties to the controversial Church of Scientology, has performed a wholesale rip-off of the popular urban75 Web site, which is devoted to raves, general partying and mirth-making, photography, sport, satire, and common-sense advice for drug users along the lines of, 'it's probably bad for you, but if you must, here's what you can expect from substance x'). For example, Ketamine, we are told, "may turn you into a gibbering, spaced out bore, mumbling and slurring away while your dancing may begin to resemble Bill and Ben on acid." The Narconon people have a good deal less humour and a good deal more revenue generation in mind with their pitch, claiming a success rate of 76 per cent for a programme originally developed in a large US penal institution. "The key to the successes of the Narconon program is the Drug Rehabilitation Technology developed by author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard," the pitch explains. According to urban75, the "thieving bastards at Narconon (drug abuse 'charity' owned by the Scientologists) have ripped off a previous version of urban75 in its entirety: the navigation, the graphics, the code, the style sheets, the layout - everything - changing just the text and photos." A Web page with comparisons can be found here. The pages are indeed virtually indistinguishable, though one significant difference is Narconon's rat-your-friends form, enabling surfers to send their own, or someone else's, personal details as a drug abuser to the cult. The page comes up when the "contact us" link is activated. from Wikipedia: In January 2001, Narconon came under fire when they appeared to copy the entire layout and site design of the webzine Urban75.com for their websites heroinaddiction.com and cocaineaddiction.com, among others. The editor of Urban75 posted up comparisons of the copying, showing that Narconon had not even removed Urban75s hidden javascript code, unique to Urban75. The Register noted the irony of this scandal, quoting a critic who wrote, "Scientology has sued countless individuals and organizations putatively for 'copyright violation' and the organization claims loudly that they're at the 'forefront of protecting proprietary information on the Internet'."After pressure from Urban75 readers, Narconon eventually removed the copied layout, but never responded to queries about the site nor admitted any copying.
Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS The vid you wanted is in post #24, if you missed it. Carry on!
Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS Ah yes. I was going to mention that I thought the site's name included a number. I'm glad to see it didn't all vanish into the ether. As the last link makes clear, it was a pretty bold and shameless infringement.
Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS Thanks Grump! <3 would love to get a pic of Urban75 and Narconon pics side by side!

Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS I am still trying to remember a recent COS video that was LOADED with copyright infringements. It has movie tracks, music, and tons of other stuff. Was it from this last New Years Eve thing?
Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS Not sure if it's copyright, trademark, or both infringement, but don't forget the "Hollywood" sign imprint on the back cover of the "Special Edition" of Diuretics reported here http://forums.whyweprotest.net/121-...rand-re-open-los-angeles-65546/2/#post1226948 BigBeard
Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS It'd be a trademark issue, not copyright, although certain images depicting the sign are copyrighted themselves, and most depictions of the staggered HOLLYWOOD letters are from a particular 'up' vantage, which Scientology's book implies. For the most part, though, use of the mark is suggestive of endorsement by the owner of the mark, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Scientology's use of the mark on their book, assuming they did not clear rights to it (I am doubtful they would), is definitely trademark infringement because it implies endorsement and causes consumer confusion. I have no idea whether the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce would be interested in doing anything about it. What makes this a particularly strong argument for infringement is the placement of the logo: embossed and alone on the back cover of a special edition copy of Dianetics. There were plenty of ways to use the mark that don't infringe by implying endorsement, but Scientology's use could only be more infringing if it were on the front cover.
