    Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS

i think it's more fail to try to prosecute ppl for wearing a quasi-military uniform. but that's just me.

civilians wear military uniforms while taking part in all sorts of activities that servicemen would find offensive. gay pride parades come to mind; i've seen folks wearing military uniforms to go out drinking and dancing; i've seen military uniforms in porn.

these abuses of the uniform must all fall under 1st amendment protected expression, if none of it has even been prosecuted before.

i would think the wearing of uniforms associated with a religion would also be protected. wouldn't you?

oh wait. you were one of the people who wanted to ban scientology books in the Russia thread, so i guess you probably agree with the idea of forbidding people from wearing what they would like to wear, if it's from a dangerous religion.

EDIT: maybe you're from france, where that kind of thing goes on.
  4. Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS

No not at all. I have never heard of a religion using military uniform that copies and imitates a governments military uniform except maybe the Knights Templar but they were endorsed by the government..

character assassination. Nice technique bro. ;)

This group is masquerading as a military organization which copies the US governments military uniform. They use this to attract unsuspecting people into the organization. It is not a one off, it is not for a show. It is a prolonged illegal act spanning many years and it must stop. I can think of no other group silly enough to have ever tried this as an ongoing thing and i think it's about time these illegal practices were stopped.

    Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS

can the government stop a religion from doing so? i'm afraid it can't under current law.
is it wrong to recall your record on the 1st amendment when we're talking about the 1st amendment?

[STRIKE]The boy scouts do the same thing. They are a private club so they can exclude gay kids. Evil, evil. But they also wear uniforms based on US ranger/guard uniforms to attract unsuspecting people into their homophobic organization. it's not a one-off and not for a show. it's a prolonged "illegal" act to copy those uniforms, spanning many years. must it stop?[/STRIKE]
  6. Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS

I believe your understanding of the law is incorrect.

My understanding of the law, it indeed can. It is my understanding of the law that you are allowed to practice any belief you want as long as you don't break the law. This is a clear law and it is being broken. Religions or those masquerading as one, such as Scientology, are not immune from the law. That is why pedophile priests can go to jail.

Well firstly, you might want to re-read those threads as you are clearly wrong.

Secondly, the first amendment protects religious rights but not it's illegal acts. Under the first amendment you can believe in cannibalism but you can't eat people. So yes, your character assassination is a failed attempt twice over. Not that i care because this has nothing to do with the first amendment or burning books. It is legal to write a book of fiction with lies in it such as dianetics but it is not legal to steal a government uniform for your own use no matter who you are. Except those exempted by the law.

If you had bothered to read the link to the laws you will clearly see the boy scouts are excluded from that law.

I don't understand any of this rambling. Can you try to be a bit more clear?

    Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS

the last time i looked at the first page of that thread you'd gotten an infraction for the 'lurk well' comment. i'd forgotten that later on you explained what you meant by that. my bad.

calling me rambling and incoherent when i quoted you almost directly is either rude, or self-deprecating. but that's ok. you're definitely right about the boy scouts being exempted.

here's another group of folks who've clearly imitated the U.S. naval uniform. carnival cruise lines. wanna get them arrested too?

I'm thinking of private security companies, airlines, defense/military contractors. blackwater/xe. dynecorp. i could find a ton of businesses with uniforms that resemble u.s. military.
  9. Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS

Yes if those idiots go down i don't care either. Like I clearly wrote it is a grey law but can be enforced when there is clearly someone trying to imitate the American government military in order to benefit from such for their own purpose. "carnival cruises" might be doing it as a joke. If they aren't hurting anyone or taking advantage of that position , i'm not going to complain personally. But if they are using it in order to deceive people which is clearly the case in Scientology then i would complain. It is illegal, It is irresponsible. Oh and it's major Lulz.
  10. Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS

Lets just poon these guys and let the American military make that decision for themselves, shall we?

    Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS

if the federal government can't apply the law equally, to those other guys....

then no one is going to work extra hard to apply the law to scientology, with their deep pockets and many lawyers....

    hence,

what kind of drugs are you smoking? and can i have some? ;)

scientology would win in the court of public opinion. they would point to the airlines, etc, and ask why scientology alone is being singled out to have their uniforms taken away. the cry of religious bigotry would be very believable.

they may be in violation of your law, i agree, but i just don't think it's going to work.
  12. Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS

Sorry i didn't realize your legal expertise and absolute knowledge in the area of being so informed, you are right this is a bad idea. What was i thinking?

    Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS

the law, in essence, is to prevent people from impersonating servicemen. For example, if you claim to be a sailor who won the naval cross and what not, they will arrest you and charge you with wearing medals you didn't earn, and the like.

In this case, it "might" be used because of the private navy aspect. and thats a big "MIGHT!"

What Do Jay Gary And Scientology Have In Common?

"WATCHING A&E, November 11, 1999 - ON SCIENTOLOGY, I NOTICED THEIR FLAG: A WHITE PENTAGRAM ON BLUE BACKGROUND GARNISHED WITH ACACIA BRANCHES, A SYMBOL OF ETERNAL LIFE AND PEACE. The symbol on the flag WAS THE SAME AS JAY GARY'S SYMBOLISM IN HIS LITERATURE. Scientologists also use two triangles interconnected within their Logo which is a form of the star of David upside down."

Fair use does not extend to commercial activities. which is what Scientology fund raising flyers are. Poon the organizers. They can get a quarter million dollars from the cult per infringement.

    Re: SCIENTOLOGY COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS

Just found this, but it's prolly old news:

"Although there are those who would rather you didn't use the word "Scientology", they cannot prevent it.
It is interesting to learn that the actual word is not new. It first appeared in 1910 in a book called "The New Word" by Allen Upwood. Mr Upwood defined the word as the study of knowledge.
The word also appeared in a 1934 German philosophical book in the form of "scientologie"

So Hubbard even stole the name Scientology?

    I didn't know that
